Rooted in the Christian faith, life at Emmaus House supports residents to live fulfilled lives in their later years. Emmaus House provides excellent, personalised care which supports the residents flourish in older age.
Emmaus House has an active social life in which residents can take part, or follow their pursuits. Emmaus House appreciates that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and endeavour to support the residents to maintain this important part of their lives.
Residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want - residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper or a good book from the homes’ own collection.
The home employs an activities coordinator who is supported by a team of volunteers, providing a range of planned activities or spending time one on one with residents.
The weekly programme includes activities such as armchair exercises, quizzes, crafts, walks in the Valley Gardens, pet therapy, board games, talks and much more. Those who are unable to join the activities are visited in their rooms by volunteers. A hairdresser visits once a week.
As a Christian community, both residents and staff of Emmaus House meet daily for devotional times. There is a Sunday service, monthly communion service and regular hymn singing.
Emmaus House also benefits from the active involvement of supporters from local churches, who not only visit regularly to take devotions, services, prayer meetings, Bible studies and communion services, but also provide pastoral support to the residents and staff.
There are a number of churches of various denominations within easy reach of the home.

All staff are kind, caring and professional, nothing is too much trouble and they always go out of their way to help. When visiting mum they make you feel like part of their family and they have taken time to get to know mum and are always attentive to her needs. Mum always appears clean and tidy and I love the way that they varnish Mum's nails and put her jewellery on for her. It warms my heart that mum is happy and settled and she told me that she likes her new house. The home and mum’s room is clean and tidy and warm and welcoming.
Many thanks for taking the time to complete a review of our home. I am really delighted that you feel that your mum is truly settled with us, we work hard to make this feel like home!

Having started aged 16 as a care assistant in a care home, Chrissie has extensive experience in the care sector. Over the years she has worked in a number of settings, including a home for those with disabilities and acquired brain injuries and a day centre for those with learning needs. Most recently she has managed care homes for older people. She is excited to be leading the team at Emmaus House, where the Christian faith is central to life at home.
Chrissie has two children. When not at work, she and her family enjoy trips out to the North Yorkshire coast, dabbling in rock pools and tucking into fish and chips for tea.
