My mother suffers from mixed dementia and came for a week's rest initially and has chosen to stay. The staff have been very helpful and understanding of our situation. They have been very welcoming towards us all. My mother has a better quality of life being here with plenty of socialising with other
residents and they have things going on through the day to keep the residents occupied. We can't fault the care home or its staff, all are wonderful.

After spending almost 4 years at Town end close Care Home, my mum has enjoyed a quality of life that we the family didn't think would be possible. Every aspect of the Home gives a quality and reassurance that puts our mind at rest.
Townend Close is a high standard, good quality Care Home with a modern
outlook to ensuring all the needs of the residents is offered above and beyond.
My mum needs a high standard of care and this is what she is constantly given. Previously, we looked at several options in close proximity, and we can honestly say that Townend close is top of the table. The rooms are modern clean and fitted out to a very high standard. It is also noticeable that there is a constant service and maintenance plan both internally and externally. The gardens and surroundings are well maintained throughout the year and offer the residents an outside space to relax and appreciate the nice outlook. Many of the staff have worked there for many years. Highly recommend.

My mum has been a resident at Townend Close. She is really happy here. The staff are excellent, they are all very caring, professional and compassionate. We could have not chosen a better place for my mum. In my job as a community physiotherapist I have seen many care homes, Townend and its staff are
the best I've seen. They should all be very proud.

My mum has broken her hip and was completely care dependent at this time. We needed a couple of weeks respite and we (her family) were worried how. She should not have worried. Townend is a lovely place to stay and to visit. The residents rooms are homely and comfortable. The food was delicious, laundry
was cleaned beautifully and efficiently but the best of all are the staff who are kind, professional and treat residents like family. So happy to have found this lovely place. Thank you.

My mum has been at Townend Close for several months now and has a better quality of life than when she lived alone. The staff are friendly and caring and she has a lovely room, where we have pleasant get-togethers. MymMum is a very quiet person, and the staff respects that, whilst gently encouraging
her to benefit from activities. Recently, I attended an event where we had a lovely meal together in the dining room, followed by a quiz. It was a very enjoyable couple of hours. Thank you to everyone.

Dad has been a Townen resident for one year now. It is a very welcoming and friendly home, with beautiful gardens. The staff are so lovely making time to talk to him as well as caring for him. The cooks will go the extra mile to give Dad something as an extra treat. The rooms are clean and bright and
there are lots of daily activities if you want to join in. I feel that Dad chose Townend to stay. I knew he is safe and very well looked after.

My experiences are based on visits to see my brother in his bedroom, dining room and the lounge. He is always clean and tidy and dressed in clean clothes. He has a choice of food which he says he enjoys. The staff I meet are always welcoming, polite and friendly. They keep me informed regarding my brother's
needs and development. I have only been to a few activities in the lounge with my brother, his enjoyment of these are varied depending on the activity.

Now that Mum has settled, she regards Townend Close as her home and many of the staff as friends. Knowing that they have a genuine interest in her and her well-being. The way in which she is treated with both respect and friendliness has helped her to feel secure and safe. Staff were quick to notice
when she was out of sorts and acted both quickly and appropriately. In addition, she has enjoyed many of the special meals and loved it when the ponies have come in and the birds - more of these activities please.

My mother lived at Townend Close for over two years. She was well looked after. The staff were kind and caring and friendly to me when visiting. Aged over 100, she had a fall, being very frail she then suffered a broken hip which eventually led to end-of-life care.
The care she received then was excellent
by all concerned, staff, nurses, doctor etc. I would recommend this lovely home to anyone needing care.

Everything is very good, just a problem with items of clothing going missing. The staff are very kind and attentive. The resident is catheterised and wearing a leg brace, which is difficult to fit, we are working on it.

My mum moved here a year ago after living in a different part of the country for 92 years.
She has settled so well and is really happy. She loves the staff, the food, her room (which is kept spotless). The fact that her laundry is all done individually (no name tags here). I am delighted that I chose
Townsend Close for her final home.

I have total peace of mind with the care of my mum in Townend Close. The staff are wonderful - so caring, conscientious, friendly and patient, not to mention very professional in their conduct. Communication with family members is good. If medical advice is needed, they call this in in a timely way.
Mum's room is lovely and always spotlessly clean. The building is easy to get around and it is great having a beautiful garden to sit in and walk around in good weather. There is a varied programme of activities and all facilities are excellent. Mum really enjoys the food too. She is very happy in her home and I know at all times she is receiving excellent care and friendly companionship.

Mum was resident in Townend Close recently for three weeks due to a domestic emergency leaving her home unsafe. She has always been adamant that she would hate residential care and was very upset that this was enforced with little warning, given the circumstances. From the outset, the staff were open,
friendly and very supportive. Mum was delighted with her room and settled quickly into the daily routine, loving the food and the company of other residents, and had nothing but praise for the staff. As a family, we were reassured that she was in capable hands and we were able to visit freely and even include the dog! The initial stay was arranged for 10 days but the staff were very flexible in allowing us to extend this at short notice when the work was taking longer than expected. We have nothing but gratitude and praise for all the staff at Townend Close. Thank you for caring for our Mum/Grandma/ great grandma so willingly and for radically changing her opinion of residential care.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.684)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.684) out of 10 for Townend Close is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.859 for Townend Close is calculated as follows: ( (138 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.859
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Townend Close is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
