We are struggling to get my mam in the shower but we are working together on this.
Very aproachable, Care is wonderful and they have time with all residents
Staff friendly & efficient always pleasant & helpful all aspects of mams personal care carried out in a relaxed atmosphere. Any issues are communicated to me & my family.
I would highly recommend this home.
Staff are friendly, always positive and professional, the level of care my mum
is receiving is excellent
My mother has lived in Northbourne for two years, she has Alzheimers. The staff in Northbourne are all kind and caring and so friendly to family visitors as well as residents. The food is good, there are varied activities and I would recommend Northbourne to anyone for it's quality care.
My aunt has been in Northbourne for 4 months and I feel her experience has been very positive so far. The home is bright, welcoming and clean and staff are friendly, go out of their way to remember who is related to whom. It has been a time of upheaval, with 2 changes of management, but the remaining management staff have done a fantastic job in the meantime. The team leads seem to be on the ball and the carers work hard. As in all care homes it would be great if there could be higher staffing levels, but this is perhaps not feasible. My auntie is relatively independent, so I don't see some aspects of care, but feel very positive so far.
Thank you for taking the time to review Northbourne and we are pleased you rate our care/ support as excellent. We appreciate your kind comments regarding our colleagues and home, which I will pass on to our team. Our staffing is calculated using a dependency tool to ensure the best care is always...
The whole staff team including everyone cleaners , cooks , laundry , care staff , etc are like a family and Northbourne is definitely the residents home
They have an open door policy so relatives are able to freely come and go
The food is off high quality with plenty of snacks through out the day
We would highly recommend this care home
Thank you
Highly recommend.
My mother came to live at Northbourne in June 2021. It was near the end of COVID. Once she had settled in, which didn't take long, it began to feel like a home from home. Lots of activities and good food have improved her life as she had started to give up. The staff and management of the home are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a friendly, safe place for your loved one, this is the place. I have experience of other homes and none are as good as Northbourne. It has a real homely feel.
Mum was cared for by the exceptional staff at Northbourne in Gateshead. She was there for seventeen months, was suffering from Alzheimer's, was blind and very frail. The staff treated her with humanity, kindness, respect and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for them and Mam always felt loved and secure. She had palliative care in her final days and we stayed with her day and night until she slipped away peacefully in Northbourne, surrounded by the people she loved. We were all treated like family. Northbourne is a fantastic community, I cannot praise the staff enough. In Mam's final hours, two members of staff, in particular, were brilliant. Thank you so much for caring for our precious mother so well and supporting us through this difficult time. You are all stars.
Mam is 92 and had been living in her own home with support from my dedicated sister and carers. She has Alzheimer's, is partially blind and has mobility issues. After being hospitalised after a fall, she went to live at Northbourne in August 2022. We chose the home carefully after visits to other homes. The manager and staff are professional and kind and treat residents like family. There are always fun activities organised, and the staff are exemplary. It is an outstanding place with staff who go above and beyond with tons of Geordie warmth and humour thrown in. We know our precious Mam is safe and in good hands.
My father has been a resident at Northbourne Care Home since January 2020. He recently was admitted to hospital with what turned out to be sepsis. He was discharged after about ten days, recovered from the sepsis but very frail, poorly and with a painful bedsore. From the moment he returned to Northbourne his actual care has been of the highest standard, staff obtaining, without delay, a special mattress to improve his comfort. He has been encouraged to return to a healthy diet and to drink regularly. Each day, my dad has grown stronger and his mobility is beginning to return. Thank you Northbourne for the care, kindness and encouragement given to Dad.
Mam has been at Northbourne for two years now. The staff have been through some tough times with the Covid outbreak at the home. They have kept the family informed of everything that has been happening within the home, and more importantly, with Mam. The home itself is clean. The staff are friendly and treat Mam with respect. The only disappointment is that her memory book with sentimental family photos etc and a framed family photograph is missing from her belongings. I would recommend Northbourne to anyone.
When I had to find a home for my mum I contacted several, I was really impressed with my first contact with the manager and other staff I spoke to. They really seemed to care about my mum and recognised how difficult it was for us as a family, this has continued throughout my mum's stay. The staff are excellent, friendly and supportive of my mum, who although she has Dementia is still fit and quite able to get around. My mum is at a stage in her illness where she can be difficult at times but the staff are great with her, always trying to settle her down and make her laugh (which she does).
If there are any concerns they contact me immediately, which is very reassuring, they work with me and other healthcare organisations to ensure my mum is fit and as happy as possible. COVID has undoubtedly placed a huge strain on everyone, but I have never heard a complaint or seen any reduction in the care my mum receives. I can't speak highly enough of the staff and would recommend Northbourne.
My mam has been a resident with Northbourne for four years in March. She was here before Covid, and her care was excellent with great activities and caring staff. When Covid came, the home was excellent with the care they gave during this time, making where possible we were allowed to see Mam, in person, behind screens or vis Skype. They have been excellent in maintaining the standard of care that is expected. The staff have put their health and safety on the line for us.
Lovely staff with a genuine caring attitude. The home is very clean and always smells fresh. Activities have been limited recently but hopefully will now be able to expand in both frequency and variety. Good management with frequent contact with loved ones.
Mum, who has dementia, has been at Northbourne for nearly a year and has settled in well. She is well looked after and treated with respect and dignity. Staff are friendly, approachable, and caring. The Covid pandemic prevailing over this time has undoubtedly placed huge stresses on the care sector and greatly skewed the experience for relatives, but the staff have done their best to keep residents happy and stimulated with a programme of activities. The experienced management are always happy to discuss individual needs and concerns.
Medical visits are arranged as needed. The meals are all home-cooked and varied. Covid regulations, whilst onerous to everyone, have been administered responsibly as best as could be interpreted under the circumstances. Overall, I am pleased with the care my mother is receiving and can recommend Northbourne as a good place to consider for residential care.
This care home is one of the best I have ever known. From the time my mother-in-law became resident - nearly 4 years ago - she has been so well looked after we cannot fault the care at all. The staff are outstanding, the manager is professional and empathetic, the environment is clean, comfortable and homely and during Covid, she has been well cared for in our absence. Thank you.
My dad is happy with the staff and the accommodation provided. Although in lockdown due to covid19, I have been informed of any problems or changes in procedures, eg being able to visit in a safe environment. Dad's happiness and safety are paramount, and I can relax in the thought that the necessities are provided by the staff at Northbourne.
