Mam is going from strength to strength since becoming a resident in Philip Cussins House. Her mobility is much improved. She enjoys outings and mealtimes and special events. She enjoys chatting with other residents and to family during visits. The standard of care and consistency of staff is excellent
with many staff members having worked here for 5 years. Thank you.
Reply from Margaret Lemon, Manager at Philip Cussins HouseWe are delighted that your mam is going from strength to strength. We aim to keep all residents busy with various activities. Thank you for your kind review.

I was brought here following advice after a fall at home and given a single room. I have been very comfortable and fed extremely well. The staff throughout are charming with a delightful sense of humour, making day by day living enjoyable. Problems which may arise are dealt with in a sensible way, making
day by day living very pleasant with staff and fellow guests. It is good to hear laughter from time to time.
Reply from Margaret Lemon, Manager at Philip Cussins HouseWe are delighted that you are happy, you are comfortable, and are fed well. Glad our staff makes your day enjoyable. You are a lovely lady.

My Mothers care at Philip Cussins House has been absolutely exemplary. The staff are outstanding and every effort is made to create a real home rather than an institution. The food is excellent and varied, and residents enjoy a wide range of activities and outings. Moving to PCH has improved her physical
and mental health and I would recommend this care home very highly.
Reply from Margaret Lemon, Manager at Philip Cussins HouseWe are delighted that your mum has settled into our care home, she is a pleasure. And has made good relationships with both staff and residents.

My mother has lived at the home since the end of May 2024. She has settled well. The staff are excellent, caring and friendly. They treat my mother with dignity and care and are always kind to our family too. They encourage Mam to be independent as far as she can. Her mobility has improved which is
really important. I can't praise this home enough.

I have just spent five weeks in respite care at Philip Cussins House. This was my second respite stay and there is nowhere else I'd want to stay. I cannot fault any aspect of the care given. The staff are so friendly, willing, hardworking and patient. Nothing is too much trouble and they are all so
happy in their work. I have an open invitation to drop in anytime I'm passing, and I will!

Philip Cussins House is the most caring and friendly of residential homes. My mother had no hesitation in requesting a respite care stay following hospitalisation, after a previous stay last year. She was welcomed back like a long-lost friend and made to feel very much at home, with good food, a lively
atmosphere and plenty of people to chat a laugh with, the days fly by. The staff really cannot do enough for all their residents.
Reply from Margaret Lemon, Manager at Philip Cussins HouseThank you very much for your lovely kind review; it was a pleasure to look after your mother. We would accommodate your mother at any time to have her stay for respite. Lovely lady.

The care and kindness shown by the staff to residents is wonderful. The food is always first class. The home is cleaned and well-maintained but is starting to look a little tired. I feel there are very few activities to stimulate residents other than the occasional Bingo and Dominoes. Guest speakers
or debates amongst residents would be good. I feel also that the outside area could be made nicer for residents when the weather is good.
Reply from Margaret Lemon, Manager at Philip Cussins HouseThank you for your comments, we do provide varied activities - we have Art and crafts sessions twice per week. Weekly bus trips, weekly keep fit sessions. Birthday parties are held once per month. The local nursery children visit. So we have lots of varied activities for those who would like to participate. We recently had the roof maintained and this is now completed, the gardener will now keep the garden maintained. We take all comments on board.

I have been accompanying my mother to the home and picking her up for 2-3 weeks. I spend up to an hour or so each time. In all that time, I have not once heard an impatient word from any staff member and only observed calm, caring and pleasant interaction between the staff and the residents. The rooms
are all clean, neat and well-kept at all times and any request has been responded to quickly, efficiently and in a friendly way. It's a warm, homely environment!

My mother was in Philip Cussins House for several years. She was very contented there. The staff were caring and built strong relationships with the residents. For over two months, at end of life, my mother was unable to get out of bed. The staff looked after her incredibly well, ensuring that she was
comfortable and hydrated. We couldn't fault the care she received and would highly recommend PC House.

I can't thank the management and staff enough for the improvement in my wife's condition since moving into Philip Cussins House. They looked after her so well that she was able to move into our home within a couple of months. The friendly, efficient and expert attention provided for her disorder is
highly recommended. The quality of food is also plentiful and served in the comfortable facilities. We would highly recommend this home for both residents and permanent care.

I came to Philip Cussins House quite distressed the hospital had discharged me following a very serious illness.
I had had respite care on an earlier occasion.
Here I am now just 2 days in (I propose to be here for 2 weeks).
Comfort and support, kindness and attention beyond compare.

My friend was residing in assisted living accommodation where she has been for a number of years. She is in her 70's and is quite childlike in her ways which some residents found irritating and had started to bully her. Her support at this place went on holiday for 2 weeks, I had agreed to call during
this period and on her first day 'alone' my friend was scared. I asked Philip Cussins House to come and assess her for respite. The manager came immediately and my friend moved in the same day. The staff were so welcoming it made me cry with gratitude. She is now a permanent resident and loves everything about the place and says she feels happy and safe.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.838)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.838) out of 10 for Philip Cussins House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.838 for Philip Cussins House is calculated as follows: ( (305 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 358 Ratings = 4.838
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Philip Cussins House is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
