The room is very good and everyone is very friendly. I arrived after a short stay in hospital for a week's respite care, and being blind and hard of hearing, everyone has been extremely patient and friendly. Treatment has been excellent and I have had plenty of assistance when needed. I can't think
of anywhere else I would go.

My care home ticks all the boxes. It is ideal for me and my family who live nearby. I was not coping well at home and this care home suits me well. I feel secure and safe, someone is always on call but I need to realise there are other residents who are just as important as I am. I have a good relationship
with my carers who respect me and have become friends. The managers are first class, picking up quickly on anything that may become necessary with each one of us and dealing with it. Safe hands which are a priority.

Too many lovely staff leaving or about to leave..
Reply from Sophie Maccormack, Marketing Assistant at Whorlton Grange

I would like to start by thanking you for your comments, we are very pleased to see that on the whole, you find the services we provide to be either good or satisfactory. We are currently reviewing the way we provide activities throughout our homes and hope that you will notice an improvement with this in the near future. Activities are a very personal area and what suits one person does not suit another, however, we would be happy to receive any suggestions on new activities which could be provided in the home to meet your relative’s needs.
In response to the comment you have made about “too many lovely staff leaving” unfortunately, care tends to be a transient industry in which staff do move around. Over the last year Wellburn Care Homes have been concentrating on improving our recruitment and retention procedures and hope that going forward this will provide more stability in the staff team.
Many of the staff who are now leaving are doing so for career development and are able to do this due to the training and experience they have received through Wellburn Care Homes, we wish them all well in their future careers.

My mother has been in this home for 6 years and the proactive help and advice sets them apart. All standards are high and we are kept informed of all events, changes and actions we need to take. We visit the home often at different times so we see most of the staff dealing with different pressures.
The support for my mother, particularly this month by way of activities, has been exceptional. Her Alzheimer's is properly recognised and supported.

I take comfort knowing that mum is being cared for in a warm, secure, homely environment by interested and caring staff.
The staff always let me know how mum has been in general when I visit and are quick to contact me if they have concerns, for example, an infection or immediately if there is an
emergency.
It is lovely to see the interaction of the staff and residents and the enjoyment the residents get from the activities - such as singing along to music and visiting bands etc...

I have been here 3 times for respite care and I find the staff very approachable and friendly. I am happy to come here and I have noticed a change in the carers and I feel there is more motivation and interaction.

My aunt was having difficulty at home and could not manage. She kept falling. Reluctantly she agreed to go to Whorton for one or two weeks' rest. After her 2 week stay she loved it so much she decided to stay longer. The care she received was first class. Food and care has been wonderful and compassionate.
The staff were very understanding, not only for my needs but my aunty's too. As a result of this she has decided to stay for a long time. I have recommended this to a few neighbours.

My Father was admitted just over a year ago. Since then I am more than happy with the care and looking after he receives. He is always clean and well presented when I visit him.
He eats extremely well and enjoys the food. The staff always have time to have a chat with him and that makes him happy as
he loves company.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.160)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.160) out of 10 for Whorlton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.774 for Whorlton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.774
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.386 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whorlton Grange is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.686
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
