Before my mum went into the home she was extremely withdrawn, asleep most of the time, could hardly walk, and was in and out of hospital. Since she has been in the home, she is brighter in herself, happier and seems so much more content. My brother and I can't praise the care team enough., We know she
is getting the best care which eases our minds so much.

From outside the home is very well-presented, clean and the small garden is well-kept. Inside, the home is spotlessly clean, the staff are very pleasant at all times even though they can be harassed. The residents are well looked after and all their needs are catered for, the home has a full activities
programme, with children from the local schools visiting, also entertainment and bus outings, mainly in the summer months. I am more than pleased with the care my wife receives and I will fully recommend this home.

My Father moved from a care home in Ireland to Whorlton Grange in October 2023. After having a terrible experience in his last care home in Ireland, he arrived at Whorlton Grange quite vulnerable. The day we arrived, he was greeted with a huge hug from the deputy manager which immediately reassured
him. I can honestly say that the care he has received from day one until now has been outstanding. Everyone (too many to name) has been truly fantastic with him. My brother and I are reassured that he is in the best place, is safe, and is getting the care that he needs and in fact, beyond that - the Care staff are all wonderful. This place deserves an outstanding rating! Thank you to you all from the bottom of my heart, we really can't thank you enough.

My mum lived at Whorlton Grange for nearly six years. Their care for her and me was exceptional. Since her death, I have had more time to reflect upon this. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They were her family and gave her unconditional love and support throughout her time at the home. We always
knew she was safe, treated as an individual and offered all sorts of activities to enhance her life. My gratitude has no limit. Choosing Whorlton Grange was the best decision ever made.

Mam came to live at Whorton Grange five years ago and she settled in from day one. As her dementia has progressed she is now unaware of her surroundings but is still very settled. As a family, we are more than happy with the fantastic care she receives. The staff need a massive pat on the back. Thank
you everyone at Whorton Grange.

The staff at Whorlton Grange are excellent. It's not just what they do but how they do it. Professional and polite with the human caring touch that really makes it. They really care about their residents and their families. Passing on the baton of care for your family is not an easy thing to do but
I can't think of anyone better to pass it to. They are taking care of Mum with what she needs and also giving me my dad back too.

My mum has been in the home since August 2022. She is 93 years old next month and she is absolutely flourishing in the home. She is cared for so well that it is like she is living in her own private hotel. Her room is lovely and peaceful and very pleasant. When we visit her she enjoys the food and the
company of the other residents. She particularly enjoys chatting with the staff as they all take the time to talk to her every day. As a family, we could not be happier with her care. She is happy, safe and loved.

After a difficult six months or so, my mother moved in at Whorlton Grange. She has been helped and supported extremely well by the management and carers. They also supported me at this difficult time. She has settled in really well, and it is a great comfort to know she is safe and well cared for. She
has gained a little independence back, and it is lovely being able to spend quality time with her instead of trying to organise outside agencies.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.160)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.160) out of 10 for Whorlton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.774 for Whorlton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.774
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.386 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whorlton Grange is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.686
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
