The overall care, support and attention to needs of our mother have been good. As with all new environments it takes time to evaluate all of the likely situations likely to be met during our mothers stay.
The only concern is the room, there is considerable wear and tear and the failed window unit
makes it difficult to see the outside world. The family will re-decorate the room to improve our mothers and any visitors time while here. Overall above satisfied. Also we have noticed mother is left alone with a drink that she spills and causes distressed, discomfort and embarrassment. We have raised this but it is ongoing.
Reply from Georgea Buckle, Operations Executive at Charlotte Grange Residential Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear your mother's overall care and support have been good. The refurbishment has been addressed and we're awaiting planned dates for this. We're also pleased to let you know the drink issue has been resolved with the use of a suitable utensil. Our manager's door is always open if you'd like to discuss anything further - we're here to help.

Overall it's a lovely place, very friendly staff but needs a lot of modernisation and work as it is all well overdue. Should be more variety of choice with meals, especially with the price hike.

Lovely warm welcome from staff from entering the home to leaving, all staff are polite and care for the residents.
Have mentioned to staff previously the menu doesn't match what is served and on a few occasions the meals have been poor.

Please dont judge this care home by its tired exterior as the care and kindness given by the staff is second to none. My dad resided there for a couple of months prior to his passing - The staff went that extra mile not only with him but also with his visiting family - they were friendly, kind and nothing
was a bother. He was comfortable and whilst didn't wish to go into residential care enjoyed the chat and friendly banter the care staff engaged with him - his buzzer was answered in minimum time and extra refreshments, homemade treats and his favourite ice cream were offered mid-meals. He had previously been in 2 different care homes for respite and did not have a pleasant experience in either - I'm so glad his last couple of months were here as the staff genuinely showed an interest in him, his family and more so his wellbeing.
Keep up the good work, eternally grateful.

Poor communication between management and relatives.
High staff turnover.
There appears to be a real lack of training and therefore a real lack of understanding of dementia and how to approach people living with dementia/behaviours that challenge.
Lack of attention to detail (broken bath hoists
not identified on any quality assurance audits or fixed for months).

Charlotte Grange has cared for my mum for over five years. They have always been attentive to her needs and maintained a pleasant disposition. I have always been greeted with friendliness even though I visit at irregular times. My mum does not want to be in care, but it is apparent that she is well
treated there. The family are very pleased with the care and attention.

My Mother has been in this care home for 1 year and 4 months. I think she has been the happiest she has ever been.
My sister and I are really pleased with the care and support my mam gets in here and we can go home and not worry about her.

My mother has been a resident in Charlotte Grange for around five years, during which time she has been happy and contented. She is now end of life and will be 99 years old on her next birthday. The staff have been so kind at this sad time and have gone above and beyond to make her feel loved and cared
for. I can't praise them enough and recommend the home totally.

The home is bright, airy and clean. The care provided is excellent. Everyone is treated with respect and dignity. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, with both residents and their families. All catering needs are cared for. If there is nothing on the menu choices liked, alternatives are offered.
I would recommend this home to others.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.996)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.996) out of 10 for Charlotte Grange Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.326 for Charlotte Grange Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.326
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.67 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charlotte Grange Residential Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.87
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
