On returning to visiting after covid and my father-in-law being transferred to the dementia unit, after his wife, who also resided at Queens Meadow, had passed away, I felt standards had declined in the home and had to, on a couple of occasions formally complain to the manager who thankfully took the complaints very seriously and implemented new routines and documentation of daily care plans, visible for the family to see and question. I believe not only did my father-in-law benefit from this, but other residents also. I feel the staff had more motivation and connected with us as a family again. Covid has a lot to answer for. I feel we are on track again.

I was happy with Queens Meadow Care Home, until my father was moved upstairs to the dementia unit. In my opinion, standards dropped dramatically. I felt the room smelt of urine and on some occasions, the cleanliness of my father was unacceptable e.g unshaven, dirty fingernails, excrement on him and bedding. Thankfully after complaining to the manager, she implemented plans to record daily hygiene/bathing/shaving. I have worked closely with the manager and have reported good and bad after visiting. I now feel standards have improved and staff are more interactive. It is much more pleasant to visit now.

Thank you for your honest review. We are happy we were given the chance to improve our care for your father and you have seen improvements. We will continue to work alongside you to ensure the standards do not drop again and yourself and your father will remain happy with our services.

Mum was a resident at Queens Meadow from June 2018 until her death in September 2021. My parents-in-law had also been residents here, so my sister and I were confident Mum would be safe, happy and well cared for. We were not disappointed. Mum was encouraged to maintain as much of her independence as possible - something which was very important to her - with staff ensuring she was always safe. Residents had plenty of opportunities to take part in activities such as quizzes, bingo and carpet bowls. Before COVID, there were often visits by entertainers and Mum loved to join in the singalong. Mum also enjoyed trips to the seaside, a petting farm/zoo and local parks. In the last few months, as Mum became more frail, we were able to visit more frequently, provided we had a negative lateral flow test. The staff were incredibly supportive of Mum and us in her final weeks; my sister and I couldn’t have asked for more. You have our eternal gratitude for your devoted care for our precious mum.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all staff at Queens Meadow for doing a SENSATIONAL job always, but especially during these sad and unprecedented times. My sister in law and husband are both being cared for during these difficult times when no visits are safe or allowed. Which must make days so much longer for all staff. I'd like to give a huge special shout out to one of the staff and say a special thanks to you for your caring professional approach to our loved ones who can be difficult. And your care and patience when they want to speak with us and when need things. You have helped us understand a disease that we struggled with knowing little about, but nothing is ever a problem for you. Massive thank you.

My mother has been a resident for almost 4-years - she has mixed type dementia.
I feel I must comment on the excellent care she has received especially, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This care home has remained virus-free since lock-down action was taken on 12th March. As a family, we were so anxious that we were unable to see our mother who is 88-years-old, as, during the run-up to the pandemic, she had been unwell and was very frail. Our worst fear is that we may not see our mother again or be able to comfort her if her health deteriorated further, as we visit her 6-days a week in normal times.
We are very thankful for the wonderful support we have received from the Queens Meadow team who have reassured us of our mother's progress and welfare during telephone calls.
Staff have remained cheerful and upbeat despite being under exceptional pressure to ensure the safety and care of all residents in their care.

You should all be rightly proud - well done, and God Bless.

My mam has been a resident at Queen’s Meadow for eight years. From day one, she has been treated with awesome friendship and professionalism by all staff, from the manager, down to all ancillary staff. If I could recall all the names of the staff I’ve encountered - then I would. But as I am unable to remember them all, I will not list any of their names as I think they are all truly wonderful. Friendly, helpful, caring, informative and professional: these are are their guiding principles and they all perform these qualities so well.

We can not praise the staff at Queens Meadow enough. When we could go and visit my mother in law, who is bedridden, we always got the warmest welcome from the staff. They would come into the room when we were there and talk to my mum in law and you can see a reaction in her eyes. They always make sure her hair looks lovely, clean nightwear and even a spray of perfume. While they have been on lockdown we have rung each day and they let us know how she is, and also ask how we are doing. They know we are struggling not seeing her, and she is too poorly to go on video calls. One of the staff had her 30th birthday holiday away cancelled, while she was on holiday from work, she knocked at our door one evening with another member of staff to bring us a gorgeous card with a wooden heart to say they are missing us. We know that she is getting as much love and support that they can. Can not thank them enough. Total heroes.

I would like to put in writing just how grateful our family are for the excellent care and attention Mam has received in these very difficult times of lockdown. One of us rings every day to check how Mam is and the staff are always friendly, helpful and chatty and they set our minds at ease knowing Mam is being well looked after. Their decision to lockdown early was by far the best course of action to take, and I firmly believe this has helped save the lives of our loved ones. We will be forever in their debt, and we want all of them to know how much we love and respect them, now more than ever. Keep up the excellent work.

Cannot express in words how our family are so grateful for the love and care my mam has received from all the staff at Queens Meadow. My mam will be 97 years of age in June 2020 we have been unable to see her for several weeks owing to the lockdown but it has been made easier knowing that the staff are treating her with love and affection. This is demonstrated to us when we video call her and see how happy and relaxed she is in their company. I know Mam has dementia so probably she is blissfully unaware of what is going on outside, however the fact she is made to feel safe and comfortable is all credit to the wonderful staff that ensure that her total needs are met at all times. I can't wait to see her again and also to be able to thank those special people in person. Queens Meadow Care Home made an important decision to lockdown early. It was probably a hard decision to make but it was one that I believe saved lives. Actions speak louder than words... Thank you to all concerned.
