Overall Experience
Mum has recently become a permanent resident of Nunthorpe Oaks having previously had several respite visits. She was always made very welcome, and the staff remembered her each time. Respite care was always readily available for us.
Now, as a permanent resident, the feeling is just the same. All the staff are very caring and aware of the individual needs of their residents. If there are any problems or small issues, the staff are very approachable and take the time to listen, discuss and take appropriate action. I know they hold regular meetings to discuss the resident's needs and any problems that might have occurred.
Now that care home visits are allowed, the staff have made us very aware of what is required, and I have had no problems in booking a slot to visit um. The visits take place in a nice setting and are all done safely with Covid testing and the wearing of appropriate clothing.

I feel secure in the knowledge that Mum is being really cared for in these strange times.

Excellent home for respite care, and the only home in the area you can pre-book with certainty.
Mum is always made very welcome; she knows most of the staff there now. She enjoys using the garden and gets involved in the activities.

She also appreciates the fact that she is allowed to go to the shops occasionally under supervision.

We don't live in the area and can't visit as often as we'd like, so it is even more important to us to know Gramps is getting the best possible care. With Nunthorpe Oaks, we have that confidence. The staff couldn't be kinder, nothing is too much trouble, the atmosphere is friendly and fun with care at the heart of everything. A real home from home for loved ones.

Helpful in all aspects of my mum's care, consistent in mum's needs and wellbeing. Understanding of family needs, especially since lockdown and Covid-19. The staff have gone above and beyond during Covid-19 and should be recognised for this.

On the whole, this residence is satisfactory and I personally feel that Mam is in a safe and secure environment, where she can be looked after without the worries of the family.
My mother feels at home and is well cared for. She feels that the meals are good and varied though can be repetitious on a weekly basis. She says that at times she feels alone and that there is not the daily interaction and varied entertainment that was promised some twelve months ago when she became a resident. The recent pandemic has accentuated this, however, I appreciate why the isolation had to happen and hopefully, now we can move on, indeed I believe that she is now being allowed out of her room on a more regular basis as things get back to normal.
You may note that I have scored the home poor in the rooms area. When Mam became a resident last July, we were promised that the home was being prepared for total re-decoration... virus aside... this has yet to happen.

On the whole my thanks to all.

My neighbour since March became a resident. Although the home has had to cope with this pandemic they have kept me up to date with what's happening with her and kept her safe. It has been hard for me to expand on this due to the pandemic and been unable to make regular visits.

Thank you for your review of our home. Our homes are now offering distance visits, whether that's drive through, window visits or garden visits which will make it easier for our loved ones to reconnect with our residents. Best wishes, Fae.

My mam has been a resident since July 2018 and during that time has been well cared for by the team here. The team’s dedication to the resident’s care is highly commendable. Pleasant and caring in manner, generous in their time. Throughout my mam’s time here from the beginning to the present day, whilst in lockdown due to the pandemic, she has received excellent care and support. I am always kept informed of every aspect of Mam’s well being. I am fully confident and secure in the knowledge that every aspect of my mam’s daily requirements is being attended to by an amazing team of care professionals. It is a pleasure to talk with any of the team when you ring up. Nothing is a bother.

The team are always there for my mum and treat her as part of the family. Great communication whenever there are any issues, especially during the COVID isolation where they provided an Ipad for Facetime sessions each day. A great bunch of people from the top down.

I highly recommend this care home, the staff are outstanding and the care and support they give to residents is amazing. They are always willing to go above and beyond, not only for residents but also for their family members. The entertainment and activities they offer are very varied and appeal to all, often having singers come to perform too. During the lockdown, my mam celebrated her 80th birthday and the staff cooked a meal for her, gave her a cake and called us so we could be part of it from home. My mam has lots of anxieties and worries and the staff are excellent with her and very patient and understanding. I can’t thank them enough for all they do. Not all heroes wear capes!

My mother has been at Nunthorpe Oaks since November. Everything possible has been done to help her to settle in. The carers are excellent and get to know residents and their families. Mum is always treated with respect and time is taken to make sure she has all she needs. Any questions I have had have been answered. I have seen a positive impact under the new manager.

I am very happy my mother is a resident here, where residents are cared for by staff who are very patient and caring and remain calm in what can be very challenging times. I am impressed by how well run and organised the home is by management, who are always welcoming to visitors such as myself.

We visit Nunthorpe Oaks weekly to spend an hour with the residents. We are a local day nursery and we bring a group of children every Tuesday to share fun activities together. We have taken part in the Halloween party and Christmas party. We play children's bingo and just over the last few weeks, we have introduced dough disco to our friends. We have played music familiar to them and has lots of fun with play dough building on hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills. The children and residents have built a beautiful relationship and we love spending time at Nunthorpe Oaks.

Dear Katie, thank you so much for your review - it is much appreciated by the team. We agree intergenerational projects are fantastic for both the children and our residents, making new friends in unexpected places. We hope your visits continue for many time to come! Best wishes, Fae.

It was really difficult making the decision for Nana to live in residential care, but the staff at Nunthorpe Oaks have eased this transition with genuine care and compassion. Their experience and humanity have helped my Nana and our family adjust to this new way of life and made us part of the Nunthorpe Oaks family. I cannot describe how much it means to know Nana is safe, not lonely and genuinely cared for and respected. Thank you.

My Aunt was very well looked after at Nunthorpe Oaks. She had good relationships with all the staff who were involved in her care. The staff were caring and considerate and I always felt that they were genuinely fond of her. As she approached the end of her life, their kindness and compassion were evident. They were also really kind and supportive to us in the difficult period after her death.

My mother has been in the care home for over 2 years.
The present management and staff are very hands-on and sympathetic to our precious relatives.
They all find time to speak to us when we are visiting and advise us of any changes, or items they think might be helpful to our relatives well being.
If I have asked for anything specific to be done, it has always been done that day.
We are always greeted with a genuine smile and hello and the same on leaving.
The food always looks hot with more than one choice.
If residents, on the odd occasion, prefer to eat in their room, the food is taken to them.

I cannot thank the management and staff enough.

The staff take care to keep residents entertained and active with various activities including exercise classes and games.
Some bedrooms are a bit small and dark, but my grandfather has a wonderful corner room with lots of light.
The staff are very friendly.
All care homes are far too expensive, but this is worth paying more for due to the attitude of the staff.

The home has recently been redecorated and is bright and welcoming.

A neighbour of mine has recently moved into this care home. Prior to moving she was living alone and could not be bothered cooking and did not see many people on a daily basis.
Since she moved into the home I visit her every week and have seen a dramatic change in her. She seems to have taken on a new lease of life and loves the home saying it was the best move she made.
The food is excellent and she eats all her meals. The staff are so good and she praises them and says they cannot do enough for her.
With plenty of activities going on which she joins in and she says the time flies.
This is a very welcoming and caring home and if in the future I myself needed to go into a care home I hope I can get into this one.

Better put my name on the waiting list now!!!

Dad moved into Nunthorpe Oaks and settled in very quickly. He now calls it 'home', and has nothing but praise for how well he is looked after, without exception the staff are kind, considerate, patient and friendly. He loves his quite spacious room, where he is able to have some of his own furniture, paintings and memorabilia, it really is his own special space and he loves it. I would recommend Nunthorpe Oaks to anyone looking for a home from home. It has certainly taken a huge weight off the shoulders of his family knowing that he is happy and well looked after.
