Our mother was admitted to Wellburn House due to falls and dementia. My first impression of the home was how clean it was. The staff are incredibly welcoming and reassuring, as to us, the family, it is an emotional time. Our mother has settled very well and feels safe. The food is high quality and plenty
of it. As first impressions go, Wellburn has exceeded all our expectations.

I have visited my sister regularly since she was admitted and have been impressed with the level of care and concern the home had provided. There have been some difficult situations for the staff to deal with, but they have done so appropriately with emphasis on care and safeguarding, showing compassion
and understanding. I fully appreciate the staff for their care, their cheerfulness and their hard work.

My mother recently had respite care at Wellburn House. From the moment we got there, the staff greeted us with a smiley face and were very friendly and chatty with Mum and me. We were shown to Mum's room which was clean and tidy. We were left to settle Mum in, then Mum was told who her main carer was.
We
were shown around the home and Mum became more settled that all the staff and residents were lovely. The senior carer was very lovely and went into detail about what would happen next, she was lovely to Mum and me and said I could ring up to check on Mum anytime day and night if I was worried about her.
The food is amazing, Mum's never eaten so much in her life! She made lots of new friends and became more socially active. Lovely place, we would not hesitate to put Mum in there when she needs care again.

I would just like to thank the lovely lady who settled my grandma into her room after having a confusing journey home from the hospital. She had been passed from pillar to post at the hospital and she made me feel comfortable that she was going to be safe and looked after in her care. She made sure
she was in clean clothes and as a relative I am very appreciative.

The family, including our mother, were really worried about her going into care. Well, we need not have worried! The team greeted our mother with kindness, compassion and a warm welcome from day one. The team are gentle with her and importantly listens to her wishes. They also know when to encourage
our mother when she resists anything that would be of benefit to her. The team keep the family informed of all of our mother's needs and shares anything that happens like hospital visits or doctor visits with detailed updates. The staff are amazing! The family are so grateful. Thank you! If I could add one thing to improve the residents' stay, put some softeners on the doors as they really slam!

As Mam's dementia progressed, we needed secure care for her. Wellburn was chosen quickly and it has turned out to be excellent. The care, kindness and love shown by the staff has been second-to-none. My sister and I both live at some distance, but communication has been thorough and timely. When it
came to the end, their care was faultless and their affection for our old lady was genuine and touching.

My aunt was placed at Wellburn House as her dementia had started to take over her ability to live alone. I didn't expect the warmth I received from the staff, they had made a huge difference to my aunt's life and I can happily say that I am free from worry as I live 300 miles away thank you for all
your kindness and support.

My aunt went in (she has dementia) on 5/1/20 for two weeks respite. She was left unchanged or washed, in her soiled pad until Wednesday 8/1/20, when I had to ask her PA to attend and change her. I did raise my concerns on Tuesday night whilst visiting, the two women sat in the office stated they would
sort it, but unfortunately, it must have slipped their mind! Anyways, the two weeks respite is not happening as I decided she will be better looked after by us. The people working in there didn't seem to grasp that Dementia can affect a person's decisions, ie: would you like to get changed? No, my aunt replies, so it's ok to leave her soiled? They must have thought so, as this is exactly what happened. I spoke to the manager who simply wouldn't have it, stating all staff were dementia aware, but not as far as I could see, or they wouldn't have left a defenceless 89-year-old lady sat in soiled pads for four days!

My aunt has recently passed away and was a resident at Wellburn House. The management team, care staff and the domestic staff were all great. They showed so much care and compassion for my aunt and made us feel so welcome. As soon as you walk through the doors the atmosphere is so friendly and homely,
the other residents who reside there also seem so happy too. Thank you to everyone at Wellburn House.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.411)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.411) out of 10 for Wellburn House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.864 for Wellburn House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.864
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.547 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wellburn House Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18. 13 Positive Reviews ÷ 18 = 0.722
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
