North Park Care Home provides residential care for older people, those living with disabilities or sensory loss, as well as people living with dementia.

They strive to offer the best possible quality of life in terms of medical support, physical surroundings, meaningful activities and hospitality. The skilled and attentive staff ensure that residents can maintain their dignity, independence and choice, irrespective of physical or mental health.

People living with dementia are cared for in the dedicated Memory Lane Community, which has been specially adapted to support those living with the condition, using careful design and colours.

It includes reminiscence aids, memory boxes and a life skills kitchen to help keep residents keep active. They base care on regular assessments and reviews, involving both the individual and their family.

Located in Darlington with scenic park views and safe, secluded gardens, North Park is also close to local amenities and not far from the A1.

My mum was originally placed in North Park Care Home for respite care but became a full-time resident shortly after. The staff are wonderful and truly care for residents and families. My mum was very happy there and encouraged to join in the many activities, she loved the therapy dog too. She made friends
with other residents and when she took ill, appropriate action was taken. In the end, the staff went the extra mile to make sure she and I were comfortable and could not have done more.

From the first phone call, I have been welcomed into the Barchester North Park Care Home family and experienced nothing but professional, friendly and caring staff. I made a point of not mentioning I am a nurse when looking around homes for my dad and I asked if I could see areas not usually shown on
a tour, like laundry, just to see if they would!
Dad loves all the carers and despite his poor memory due to living with dementia, he has already remembered some names in the month he has been here because they are the staff he loves the most. I am included in every aspect of Dad's care, they understand he is my world (especially since we lost Mum six weeks ago) and I am invited to all the events and parties planned.
Having worked in nursing homes I can not stress how wonderful everyone is here.

My dad was in a lovely room with a view overlooking the park so he could watch people walking their dogs, which I'd asked for as he doesn't really have any hobbies. The staff were excellent treating my dad with dignity and respect,
friendly and approachable. They were also very patient with my dad
helping him every day to use his mobile phone as he kept forgetting. This meant a lot to both myself and my dad as I could speak to him on a regular basis.

I didn't like it when I first came! It was like a regimental prison, and it took a long time to get used to being here. I have made lots of friends now, and I like to help those who are less able than me. I have started to tend to one of the gardens, which I enjoy doing, and it's nice being able to
go up and down stairs to meet other residents. They have activities on and we can pick and choose what we want to do.

My mother was very happy in North Park Care Home. She was extremely well looked after and had a genuine affection for all the staff, as they did to her, referring to them as her friends. I rarely give excellent, only due to the fact we can all go down the unrewarding path giving less than good results in the situation. There are good staff here, who have the excellent attitude that where they have not managed a situation well, they will think again as to the best path each time. The
attitude is apparent, and it is indeed excellent for those good people.

The staff at North Park are lovely. They made me feel welcome and at home while I was visiting my elderly grandmother on my visit from Canada. The home seems well run and feels safe during the current pandemic. The staff went above and beyond. The matron took much time to explain her health situation
to me. A special mention to the tall caretaker man who at my grandma's request provides any little thing she needs as he passes by. Lovely people who care deeply about their residents. Thanks for having me!

It is now six months since I last submitted a review on North Park. My wife continues to soldier on regardless walking many miles up and down Memory Lane usually with a friend to accompany her. Her care has at times been excellent with the team seeing to her needs despite all the trials of COVID. Never
have I had to worry about her safety or any other security aspects of her stay at the home. In the early days, we were only able to see her via “the bubble” once that was established and up and running. Now we have regular bedroom visits and trips out which are fully supported by the staff. Entertainments are a revelation and my wife takes part in things I would never have dreamed of from bowling to dancing, painting to flower making, great stuff. So North Park keep up the good work, I value all your support and the time you all take to look after the residents. Well done to the many care staff who do the extra mile on behalf of their residents.

My husband has been a resident of North Park Care home since October 2020. He is well cared for and is always clean and tidy. Since he was admitted, visiting restrictions have been in operation, however, this has been overcome by a very welcoming, comfortable indoor visiting suite. All of the staff
are very kind and understanding. They have helped me in what I have found difficult circumstances, with their reassurance, North Park has a happy and relaxed feeling! Staff are great, wonderful, etc. Thank you all.

My husband has been a resident in North Park since October 2019. I am so pleased that we chose this care home for him. From the first moment we stepped through its doors, we were impressed by the welcoming atmosphere of the home and by its staff. My husband is happy and settled here. The home is
situated overlooking a lovely park and he has a room with a view of the park.
Everyone from management, admin, care staff through to catering and cleaning go above and beyond to care for and support residents and their families. It helps, in these troubled times, to know that my loved one is living in such a good place.

My sister had several respite stays at North Park and was due to go permanently. She was a character but was well-loved there. She thought she was on holiday. Everyone very kind and caring, food always looked lovely and clothes were always spotless. Can't speak more highly of North Park. Sadly Covid

This care home is by far the best in the area. The outside of the building projects the sense of good maintenance and care. All personnel are approachable, and you, alone are the most important person with no rushing but active listening going on. The carers etc, will get the best person to solve the
problem and show empathy. The staff who are permanent, night shift are the best group of carers I have had the joy to meet. The food is mainly extremely good. The manager is simply the best. The activities team cover a wide range of activities suitable for the month and the season. These activities are very stimulating for the residents; encouraging conversations. As the manager is able to develop her ideas, the next CQC report should surely be "outstanding" taking a part in the community, even in these covid-19 times. It is important for the residents and staff.

An absolute disgrace that you have put nothing in place to facilitate Covid safe visits such as a room or pod in the eight months since you closed your doors to families. All the times I've asked about a room or pod for winter and what happens, nothing. Full of lip service, you tell us we can't see
our loved ones, not even through the window, you pass the buck and say ring head office if we're not happy. I ring the head office and they are very polite but reiterate I can't see my mam, just to remind you my mam is a lady with dementia, how dare you say she can't see her children, we've trusted you and you shut us out instead of doing what you can to keep families connected. Absolute shame on you. Treat people how you'd like to be treated yourself. If someone told you that you can't see your mam/dad/son/daughter/husband or wife indefinitely, not even through a window, would you say OK? I thought not, you would fight. Point is I shouldn't have to fight to see my own mam, but I will. Absolute disgrace.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I do appreciate how difficult the circumstances have been this year, not being able to spend time with mum as before. As you know, we have done all we can throughout the previous months to keep all our residents and staff as safe as possible and have always closely followed the government and Public Health guidance. I know from our conversations how difficult it was at the times Pubic Health had prevented visiting in the local area, but I was pleased to hear that you were enjoying your weekly outdoor visits when these were possible. Now with the colder months upon us, our indoor visiting suites are nearly installed across all of our services, and as you are aware the suite is now available at North Park, which you have a visit booked in to spend with your mum. We do hope you enjoy the new suite and please continue to contact myself and the team as we are on hand to support.

The staff and activities organisers have been brilliant throughout lockdown keeping Mam and other residents safe and doing their utter best to arrange visits to see our loved ones. Staff are like family to both residents and their families and I can't praise them enough for all their hard work through
these difficult times. Keep up the brilliant work and thank you for Mam's care.

My grandad has been a resident here for three and a half years now, the care he receives is fantastic. All of the staff including the management team are absolutely amazing and go above and beyond not only for residents but also relatives. The staff have become like family for Grandad at a time when
our family were struggling and really do treat all residents like a member of their own. Nothing is ever too much trouble no matter the request. As a family, we really cannot thank everyone here at North Park enough for love, care and respect they have shown Grandad and our family.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
