Crofton Court Care Home is situated in Blyth, Northumberland. It is in the town centre, next to the community hospital. There is easy access to shops and cafés, the library and community centres. There are also very good public transport links. Blyth port is five minutes walk away.

It has a lovely, welcoming feel to it and is very peaceful, light and airy. Visitors often say that it’s not like a care home: it’s a home.

Person-centred care is at the heart of their working ethos. Staff interact with residents in a polite but friendly manner, they get to know the things they like and don’t like, as well as their little quirks. The staff are always cheery and good humoured, and that rubs off on the residents. It’s fair to say that they really are one big happy family.

They work hard to ensure the residents are given opportunities to be as physically and mentally active as they wish to be. They have excellent links with a local Tai Chi group who come in once a fortnight to give lessons. They also have fortnightly visits from a Just Jhoon group, who do Bollywood-style exercises sessions, which can be done standing or sitting. They are very popular.

They have a big focus on music, with regular visits from entertainers who play the type of music that their residents like, so they can get them singing and dancing. This is particularly good for those with dementia. They have excellent links with Mind Active and organise activities there, and their residents go to their social events in the town. Local primary school choirs often go to them, and residents sometimes visit their schools. A local artist does art classes with residents. The latest project is focusing on Old Blyth – again good for dementia residents. A local church holds regular services here, and a group comes in to read bible stories, usually followed up by a related film.

Thank you Scott, the manager of Crofton Court Care Home Blyth for a making a special day possible for my mother.
Mam had a lovely 98th birthday with her friends enjoying a beautiful cake, candles and balloons. Later that day, as a suprise, she was taken out in her wheelchair for a meal of fish
and chips in her favourite chippy. The whole day was organized by the activities coordinator, Ellise.
Mam really enjoyed her special day, thanks again.

My mum moved into Crofton Court for respite care initially and was very keen to get home. After only a few weeks, my mum has visibly improved and has now decided she wants to stay in the home. She feels very safe and well looked after and enjoys the company of all the staff. Couldn't recommend highly
enough.

Overall I have been pleasantly impressed by the care home. The staff are all lovely and very caring. My mam is generally happy here which I didn't think would be possible bearing in mind my mam's dementia.

My wife was admitted to Crofton Court in December 25 when I could no longer care for her at home because she was in the later stages of dementia. She had been in the care home previously for respite care and I was confident that they could meet her needs. I was not wrong because the care she received
in my opinion was excellent particularly when she was put on the end of life pathway. I was amazed at how the home staff worked with the local GP practice and the community nursing service to ensure that her dignity was maintained, and that she was pain free and comfortable at all times. Lastly the staff went out of there way to support me and my family both practically with refreshments and emotionally when my wife passed away.

Although crofton court could do with a little tlc this has no reflection on the staff and there absolutely dedicated to those in their care. The thoughtfulness, empathy, compassion and resilience is apparent on a daily basis

I visit my wife regular in the home it certainly went down hill from her first going in became dirty and untidy in all respects, however I have noticed a vast improvement over the last few months since getting a new manager. The staff have always been very good pleasant kind helpful however there is
always the odd one that isn't. I think my only wish now is for painting decorating done on each room.

My mother was totoally against going into a home even though she suffers with dementia but after a stroke which took away her speech we were told by the consultant she would need 24/7 care. From the first visit I was very impressed by the staff who can not do enough for her and the way she has settled
and slowly regaining some words in her speech is down to how much time they have spent encouraging her. From being very apprehensive about putting her in a home I now recommend Crofton Court to everyone I talk to.

I was admitted in October, as soon as I came into the home it felt very friendly and looked nice and clean. My bedroom is a nice size for me. The staff are all very friendly. I felt at home straight away. Staff regularly pop into my room to see if I'm ok and enjoy our chats. Really happy here.

Our experience of Crofton Court is excellent. My mam has settled in really well, she is happy and safe and that means everything to our family. The staff go over and above to make her feel we come and part of a family. We have the utmost respect and affection for them. Its lovely to see and hear all
about the activities she has engaged in, and enjoyed. Nothing is too much trouble- for mam and for us when we visit- thank you!

My mother has been a resident at Crofton Court for approximately 9 months and in that time I have nothing but praise for the entire staff who conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism, but still find the time to interact socially with the residents and visitors alike. Nothing is too much trouble
for them. My mother not only enjoys being looked after but also the social side of things such as craft workshops, bingo, exercise classes, all of which she participates in. In summary, a real home-from-home feel. Well done, Crofton Court.

As a family we believe Scott the new manager will do amazing. The home itself has fabulous staff but needs a deep clean & painted from top to bottom. Both of which I've addressed, been told will be done ASAP. It's great to see everyone happy, residents & staff. It wasn't for a little while, as a family
we see the changes coming. This settles us too. Treasure the fabulous staff.

I am very happy here in Crofton Court. The staff are excellent, very friendly and caring. The food is very good and I have a great choice, even if I want food off the menu, there is no problem, they do their best to help.
They take me out and also take me for my hospital visits.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.667)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.667) out of 10 for Crofton Court Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for Crofton Court Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 267 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crofton Court Residential Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
