My experience of the home is that it has a friendly and caring atmosphere and that all residents are treated with dignity and respect. Individual needs are met and staff do their utmost to ensure residents are happy and settled. There are varied activities and residents are encouraged to participate.
There is a good choice of meals and kitchen staff always accommodate any individual requests from residents. Laundry and cleaning services are of a high standard. I visit the home daily and have seen staff and management deal with varied situations and they always do so with compassion and professionalism. Definitely a home I would recommend.

On the whole, my opinion of the home is good but there are 2 things that bug me. The laundry - it smells of urine (not sure if soiled and unsoiled washed together) and the ironing terrible. I have started to take laundry away but that's not what I wanted.
Activities - my mum is on memory lane but still
active and feel there are not enough things going on to keep her busy. She likes to walk (I do come and take her out a few times a week but on nice days, it would be nice for her to still go outside. They could maybe allocate little jobs for her, anything to keep her busy.
Reply from Suzanne Hudson, General Manager at Barchester Meadow Park Care HomeThank you for your review on carehome.co.uk. In response to the two issues raised, we have made improvements with our laundry system, whereby laundered clothes are to be hung on clothes rails after being laundered before being placed in residents' rooms, this will minimise creases in the clothing. All clothing are sorted into separate containers before being laundered, this will minimise 'odours'.

Our activities schedule was recently reviewed to meet the individual needs and preferences of our residents, introducing a weekly activities planner and also improved key-worker system. The impact on these improvements have been positive. We are also working with all the staff team to ensure that we share 'whats going on' in the home with regards to activities, so all relatives will be able to see how the residents at Meadow Park participate in this.

I needed a short stay after a fall and my niece arranged it. My first time in a care home and I was nervous but staff did everything that could do to help me relax and feel comfortable. I had lovely showers and felt better than I have in a long time after them. The staff were busy all the time.

My aunt aged 96 needed care after a fall. It's the first time she's needed help and she enjoyed her stay giving us the confidence to use the home again if it's needed as she said she would happily return.

On visiting Meadow Park, I found the staff very friendly and helpful.
My aunt has a lovely, well cared for room. The lounge is spacious for the residents and I'm always offered a cup of tea and my uncle has stayed for lunch a few times. I have also noticed they are given choices for meals which I
think personally, is a good thing for the resident.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.729) out of 10 for Barchester Meadow Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.879 for Barchester Meadow Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 174 Ratings = 4.879
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Meadow Park Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am proud to say that I have been part of the care sector for almost thirty years. I began my journey in care as a care assistant at the tender age of eighteen years. Twenty years as a home manager enabled me to gain a plethora of knowledge and experience in the care sector. I have achieved many qualifications and continue to learn daily.
