My husband attends Elm Bank as a day guest and I find the staff very flexible about the days he attends - they are always kind, attentive and have made him very welcome. When the time comes for him to have full-time care, I would hope that Elm Bank would have a place for him as he has settled in really
well.

My friend, who I have power of attorney for, has been in this care home since March 2015 and I have been very satisfied with the care she has been given.

The staff (including management) have been so helpful and very caring to her. They have kept me informed of any problems arising from her care.

I couldn't ask for better help than my friend and I have had.

My mother has gained weight and regained dexterity in her hand since her arrival at Elm Bank Care Home. The staff have kept me informed of her well-being and have done exactly what they hoped to do for her considering the upheaval in her life. I believe she has settled as well as could be expected which
again is to the credit of the staff.

My mother-in-law who is 100 years old moved to Elm Bank Care Home in July 2017 and it has given her a new lease of life. She had become isolated, lonely and anxious living independently even with carers three times a day. Due to her total deafness, partial sight and frailty, she just stayed in her room
unless taken out by the family. All the staff at Elm Bank are cheerful with a ready smile and caring attitude. The carers, activities coordinator, laundry staff and cleaners take time to communicate by writing on her whiteboard. Her hair, nails and clothing are immaculate. She now eats in the dining room with the residents and her appetite has returned. She will sit in the lounge and talk to people. Takes part in organised activities and even danced at a Tea Dance!
We can't thank Elm Bank enough for all the care and consideration they give her and given her confidence again.

We had a frank and meaningful discussion regarding my uncle. We are pleased with the care given to my relative and do hope it continues. Social activities at the home are good, the staff gave him a 106th birthday "party" which he did appreciate.

I visit my friend most weeks for approximately one hour, she seems content.
I find the staff friendly and helpful.
One criticism: Often, according to the visitor's book, there are one or two visitors yet the car park is full. I am disabled and need a space.

Mom moved into the home in February. Despite this being a difficult time for her getting used to new surroundings, the staff were very caring and understanding. She has settled in well and enjoys the activities they put on.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, spending time with all the

residents. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to others.

My mother who is becoming very confused was admitted to Elm Bank 10 days ago. She was reluctant to move but to my surprise has settled much better than expected, mainly because the staff have been so caring and supportive. They redecorated her room prior to admission and hung pictures, curtain rails
and shelves. My mother enjoys the meals and loves the circular lounge upstairs. When she asked about changing her room to be near that lounge, instead of expressing frustration (as I did) the staff kindly said it was possible. We'll wait and see.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.444)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.444) out of 10 for Elm Bank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.544 for Elm Bank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (135 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 195 Ratings = 4.544
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elm Bank Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
