Staff are always very understanding of mother's outbursts and calm her down afterward expertly and with great patience. I am staggered that they are able to come back, without holding any grudges, knowing they may well get more of the same.

At this time on a Sunday, I would normally be writing an email to Mum but tonight, I call to mind the awfully sad conversation I had with her, explaining that we, her family, could no longer keep her safe in her own home and that she wouldn't be going back there. As you can imagine, she was upset. Being
Mum, she mulled this over for a while, gave my hand a squeeze and said "well that's all that matters, isn't it, keeping me safe". She moved in a short time later and set about settling in. No mean feat for a proud person like Mum but she did just that and being a pragmatic person, very quickly realised that this was the life for her. She had no regrets at all. Nice room, surrounded by lots of lovely people and a raft of special ones that she was very, very fond of. She seemed to thrive under the care she received. Thank you so much, Team Wellfield.

Mum was well cared for and was always shown compassion. Her individual needs were met and over time her ability to interact and her activities of daily living improved. The staff always listened to the family and put into place our requests. Communication with the family was always prompt and when it
came to end of life care, the staff really excelled in looking after Mum and provided amazing support for the family too.

A home full of care and attention, my Mum was treated with respect and made me feel secure knowing that she was now in a place of safety and not at home where she was wandering the streets at 3 am. The staff are all lovely, I have only seen them via the door and spoke over the phone but I have nothing
but nice words to say. The management have been so helpful, they really have made this experience much easier than I ever thought it would be. We heard about Wellfield from our local running group and the feedback was all too true, a place where you would want your Mum or Dad to live. Thanks to all the staff, management and higher above for creating such a safe cove for my Mum, I've not slept so well in a long time.

Having been unable to visit Wellfield prior to my mother needing residential care (due to the pandemic and travel restrictions) we were guided by Mum’s social worker and the reports on the CQC (or Welsh equivalent). We cannot believe how fortunate we are. Mum is in such a caring, clean, friendly, dynamic
and proactive environment- we really couldn’t have asked for more. The staff, the care, the atmosphere- everything is fantastic!

Mum has been a resident since January 2020. It's been a difficult year for the staff, the residents and their families. During this awful time, the staff at Wellfield have been wonderful. Sadly, my Mum died on February 25th. The carers at Wellfield cared for Mum as if she was their own mother. We were
able to see Mum, which wouldn't have been possible if she was still in the hospital. Not only did the staff care for Mum, they cared for me and my family too. Nothing was too much trouble and I'll always be grateful that I spent four nights with my Mum before she passed away. Wellfield really is a lovely nursing home.

Despite being very reluctant to accept care or support of any sort, my mother settled into Wellfield very quickly and regularly tells the family how happy she is there. The staff know each resident very well and they are always treated with kindness, respect and dignity. The staff are also very well
trained in all aspects of their work and are led by a strong management team. The home is set in pleasant surroundings. Rooms and communal areas are comfortable and there is a high standard of hygiene, which was increased significantly during the Covid outbreak. Wellfield went to great lengths to keep Covid successfully at bay and should be congratulated for taking steps early on to control it. Mum enjoys the food at Wellfield and there is a good range of entertainment and activities on offer. We are in our 70s and it has been very much appreciated that Wellfield have been so supportive of us as a family, especially during the lockdown.

Mum went to live at Wellfield following a series of strokes, which meant she could no longer live independently. She received good care and the staff were friendly. When the current manager and his predecessor arrived, things at the home improved dramatically. The staff were very attentive and the standard
of care was excellent. The residents were encouraged to take part in the many activities that were available and they also went on local outings. Sadly, due to Covid-19, the last time I was able to spend time with Mum and hug her and talk to her was March 2020 just before the first lockdown. Although we were in regular contact with the home during the following months, it wasn’t until December that I was able to visit again. It was a well managed and safe environment but sadly the last time I saw Mum. As a family, we have nothing but praise for the manager and his team who have worked tirelessly caring for the residents in their care, during a time no one could ever have imagined.

I can't thank all the staff enough for the love, care and treatment mum has received at Wellfield. Despite the pandemic outside, I know she is safe and well and I know how much she enjoys being there. Thank you to the management who continue to keep me in the loop about what is happening within the
home and reassuring us that our loved ones are safe. I highly recommend Wellfield and all the amazing staff that work there. Keep up the outstanding work, Diolch!

The new management has been excellent, they have made the home somewhere you are sure your relative will be safe and cared for with love and kindness. The staff work so hard and look after the residents with care and dignity. Family are made welcome at any time. The rooms are kept clean and tidy, the
food is good, there are activities through the week to keep residents entertained. The home has worked so hard through this pandemic (Covid-19) to keep everyone safe, so I say thank you to managers and staff.

I have been a resident at Wellfield since August 2019. Lockdown came in March 2020. The staff have gone way beyond their duties in caring for the residents and helping our spirits up. My family and friends acknowledge I am happy and safe and clean and well-fed. My thanks go to each and every one of
them for a job well done and for getting us safely through the lockdown.

Mum was admitted from hospital into a difficult 14 days isolation. I don't know how the staff coped but they did! Since then Mum is slowly becoming part of the family. Because a family is what Wellfield is. The management teams are a delight and every member of staff I have spoken to on the phone
or when I've dropped something off has been lovely. It is hard not being able to visit because of COVID 19, but when I eventually can I hope to become part of the wider Wellfield family. Mum couldn't be in better hands.

A really wonderful community of genuinely caring, kind and loving people. There is always a warm welcome at the door from every member of staff. They have made my dear, special Nanna part of the family, and it is really comforting to know she is being well looked after with such care and kindness. All
carers have a great sense of humour and keep up the spirits of all residents with their entertainment, crafts, singing and games. The garden looks beautiful! I can't wait to see what they do inside the home, it's coming along nicely. I look forward to seeing how they make-over the main rooms. My Nanna's bedroom has had a fresh make-over and is really lovely. I love how Wellfield keeps all family members up to date on Facebook with daily photos and news. Thank you for being so wonderful, especially during such a traumatic time with Covid-19. Stay safe.

The home has an open, friendly and welcoming feel as soon as you enter. The sense that a 'family' of people live inside - bonding both the residents and carers together - is obvious. The bells are a bit distracting though!
It is under new management and you really feel assured that the utmost care
and improvement of facilities is their main priority. It certainly needs some refurbishment which is gradually being undertaken. My mum has a beautiful, newly decorated room. The standard of catering is excellent. There is a wonderful craft coordinator and if there is an opportunity to mark or celebrate an event, everyone gets involved. But mainly the carers are fantastic and have been marvellous during this outbreak.

Choosing a suitable care home for a loved one is one of the most stressful times in anyone's life.
From the moment we arrived, unannounced, at Wellfield and were met with sincere welcoming smiles, we knew it was the right place for Mum. We have not had any doubts since.
All the staff are caring, friendly
and wish only to give their best for the residents. My mum agrees wholeheartedly.
We have not seen her healthier and happier in a very long time.
Thank you for all you do.

I have nothing to say but good things about the home. Carers are always there for my mother and management helped so much with the transition from hospital. My mum has a better appetite and her general wellbeing has improved. There is a very positive culture promoted within the home which makes me feel
more confident and comfortable whilst visiting my mum as its difficult as it is for me. I would recommend this home to anyone!

a wonderful home in every aspect and patients treated with TLC and us, visitors reassured at all times God bless this home and staff.

Wellfield is a caring environment for its residents. My mother quickly settled in and enjoyed the high-quality care and support. The building and rooms are clean and bright and welcoming. The food is lovely and there is an extensive range of daily activities, including arts and crafts and baking plus
stimulating sessions to create interest. The staff are always helpful and reassuring and responded to any query we had and keep the resident's interest at heart, especially those with dementia. The management go above and beyond and made the whole process easy from the start. I would highly recommend.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.307)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.307) out of 10 for Wellfield Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.757 for Wellfield Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.757
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.55 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wellfield Residential Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My name is Rachael, I grew up in Holywell, Flintshire, and have lived there for most of my life. I moved to Ormskirk in 2005 to study Social Work Studies at Edgehill University. This is where I found my passion for caring for other people and decided that I wanted to work in social care. I believe that there is no better reward, than helping others at any stage in life, and to see them live their life as happy as they can be in an environment where they are safe and cared for.

I am currently working towards a qualification in Health and social care advanced practice at level 5.

My current role here at Wellfield is Deputy Care Manager, this involves supporting the Manager and team in providing a high standard of care to our residents, ensuring that all their daily living needs are met and ensuring that we are providing a service that they deserve and to be able to live out their life as comfortable and as happy as they can be.

Before working at Wellfield, I spent 9 years working with children and young adults who had a learning disability, our role was to support the individuals in a residential setting to learn and develop new life skills and to support them to live as independently as possible in a home environment. I spent the last two years working there as a team leader, where I led the team of life skills instructors. I have also spent 4 years working in a nursing home where I was also a senior for the last 6 months that I worked there.
