Alastair House has many years of experience in providing quality care for older people diagnosed with mental incapacities such as dementia, cognitive impairment, and delirium and generally mild/moderate mental health.

Alastair House prides itself on creating a homely environment with emphasis on social interaction and regular activities to stimulate the mind and body. Meal times take place in the dinning room and are considered by many to be a lively social gathering.

The daily programme is organised as a response to a person's individual and combined needs. Regular activities and outings are also organised for the service users, who enjoy participating.

Our lovely Mum went to live at Alastair House when her previous care home could no longer accommodate her needs due to her advancing Alzheimer's disease. We were very worried since as my brother and I live overseas and couldn't do anything but speak to her social worker, a close friend had read the
reviews on Alastair House. We needn't have had any concerns. The staff at Alastair House have been fantastic. They have demonstrated an understanding of Mum's needs and relate to her in a way that ensures she remains calm. She looks healthy and happy. There are plenty of activities for her to take part in which keep her occupied. We have only been able to visit once due to COVID-19 restrictions. The home is very clean and lunch smelled delicious. Staff have been very proactive in staying in contact with us. We regularly see Mum on videos and in photos and look forward to visiting her when restrictions are eased. A great big thank you to all those involved in the care of our beautiful Mum.

My mother has been resident here for a few years. I am very happy with the care she receives here. There are many activities going on here and the service is continually exploring more activities for the residents. Staff are always great and make everyone feel part of a family. The facilities are excellent,
always clean and the food is also excellent. I always feel welcomed on my visits.

My mum was always treated with dignity and respect while she was at Alastair House.
As my mum became more poorly. The staff supported my mum and also me. They made time to sit with her and chat, which she and I appreciated. I will forever be grateful that my mum was at Alastair House.

My husband attends Alastair House as a day resident on a Wednesday and a Friday.
He has had an occasion to extend a Friday and also stay the night. My husband always comes home saying he has enjoyed his stay and how enjoyable the food is. Also, how friendly all the staff are, nothing is ever too much

In the four years my Mum has been in Alistair House she has been looked after extremely well. Although she has dementia she seems happy and is always smiling. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I can visit any time of the day. Always made to feel welcome.

I would recommend this home to any of my family and friends. The staff are lovely and will do anything for you. They are marvellous with my aunty it is very homely and cosy. My aunty's bedroom is kept lovely and clean and the food is exceptional.

I have been very impressed with the staff at Alistair House in the way they are caring for my very elderly aunt. There seems to be a calm sensitive approach to dementia and a good level of general care. The house is tidy and clean with a friendly atmosphere. My aunt is taken shopping every two weeks
and there are various trips out and events from time to time. I would definately recommend Alistair House.

All staff are very friendly at all times and willing to help you with any questions you have, always make you feel like you are at home when visiting ie always asking if you would like a tea or coffee. Staff are always doing different actives with residents and always making them laugh and you always
walk out of there with a smile on your face. Meals are out of this world, I keep saying I will be booking myself in there soon with my mum as the food is just wonderful and tea/biscuits with cakes in the mornings and afternoons which are all made by the cook. It was the hardest thing we had to do in life was to put my mum into a home but we have made the right choice just by seeing the smile on her face when we go and see her or when we see the photos on their social media page and she's always smiling doing the different activities they do. If you are in a situation like we were and looking for a place for your loved ones there is only one choice in my opinion and that's Alastair House.

My mother has been at Alastair House for three and a half years now, during this time she has only ever been treated with kindness, dignity, love and respect. Over the last six or seven weeks, it has become increasingly obvious that her levels are once again dropping. As always, I have been included
in all decisions for mum's ongoing care, fully informed on the new care plan which has been drawn up for her and kept up to date on how this is progressing, along with how mum is accepting of this.


I never worry about the care that my mum receives at Alastair House, the staff are amazing and I am in complete awe of them for how they deal with the residents in their care - not just my mum.

A pleasant home with a pleasant homely atmosphere. The management and staff are always accommodating and friendly and always helpful.


There is a good cook and a good varied diet. The rooms are always kept clean as are the residents. There are varied activities and outings. You are welcome to visit

your loved ones day and night and my concerns are properly dealt with.

The welcome from management and staff is always friendly and positive no matter when we visit our dear friend of many years. Due to the distance, we visit every 6 weeks or so. It is a home of kindness, smiles and laughter and everyone is treated in a thoughtful way. The atmosphere is calm, everywhere
is spotlessly clean and recent redecoration has been done with care. Our friend could not be being cared for in a better place.

Two of us try to visit our friend every month or so and although she herself shows 'changes' each time we see her, it is obvious that her care is maintained to a very high standard and she is happy. The staff give constant attention and loving care to all the residents and to those who visit. We are
always made to feel welcome and the staff show their appreciation of our visit, knowing the distance we have to travel. Alistair House has a very 'homely' feel to it and the extension and alterations they have made over the past twelve months have enhanced this. There are always plenty of activities and not a day goes past without something to stimulate the residents whether it's having their nails painted, a visit from the hairdresser or choir practice! Birthdays are always celebrated in style with cakes and perhaps a tea dance. The home is always maintained at a comfortable temperature, is clean and there is NEVER a smell of stale food. The menu is always appetising and varied.

Karen King, the Registered Manager, holds a Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Adults’ Residential Management) Wales.


Karen has dedicated her entire career to working within elderly care settings, with a particular focus on mental health, dementia, and physical health. She spent 22 years working for the NHS and subsequently gained further experience, which enabled her to progress to the role of a Manager.


Karen holds a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Healthcare Practice Level 4, Health and Social Care, and has completed a wide range of NHS and other professional training to support her ongoing development. She has a strong background in care, nursing, and dementia care.
