Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The staff are extremely capable and caring and nothing is too much trouble. Always helpful, residents feel comfortable, secure, and engaged, it certainly brings out the best of them. From being alone, there is certainly stimulation created by care assistants.

I would visit my husband most days, sometimes twice and I was always met with the feeling of being welcome.
The staff always treated the residents as if it was their home.
The food was excellent and the best quality. Management was not so good until there was a change and then I found lots of improvement.
The overall look was tired but they were going through an overall and makeover when I left.
I would recommend Abermill 100%.

My mother has vascular dementia and became very difficult to care for. It was a very hard decision to put my mum into a care home but I am happy to see my mum so settled. The care and support my mum and family have received have been outstanding. The staff are excellent and mum is very happy there.

My nan came to Abermill for respite care for a total of 4 weeks. I have never seen my nan so happy within these weeks. The facilities were fabulous. The carers were amazing always happy and nothing was too much trouble for them. My nan loved the singing, chair zumba and the company of everyone, so much
so that she has now become a permanent resident.

The staff at the home are amazing. They show genuine care for the residents and always treat them with respect and ensure they maintain their dignity at all times. Members of staff will on a personal basis collect sweets or supplies in their own time to ensure a resident has what they want. Visitors
are made most welcome at any time of the day or evening. Overall if I needed to go into care Abermill is the home I'd choose.

Abermill has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The carers are very supportive and attentive to the residents. They make lots of effort to engage the residents in activities and seem to genuinely care about their needs.
Residents are treated as individuals and encouraged to talk about their past achievements.
I have been very happy when the care my dad has received at Abermill.

My mother in law has made many friends and been out on trips outside the home. She has a good social life, better than when she was at home.
There are many activities that she likes joining in with all her friends.

My mother is well cared for. Recently she was unwell and the staff called the doctor who sent her to the hospital for X-Rays. She had a DVT which was diagnosed thanks to actions of the staff at Abermill Care Home. There is always good communication, activities are varied, meals always well balanced
and a good variety and choice.

My mother was a resident for three years until she had to go into hospital where she died. During the three years, she was at the home, she received the best of care. It was a great comfort to her family to know that she was safe and very well cared for. The staff were always very professional and very
caring and supportive. It was testament to the care of everyone at the home that my mother eventually came to regard the home as her home.

From what I have seen, Abermill Care Homerun a smooth, friendly place. They are always very attentive to the resident's needs. They are always happy no matter what time you visit a relative. I would definitely refer other people to have their relatives looked after at this care home.

Christine

Christine Tipper

Job Title: Home Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
