Reviews

7.8 Caledonian Court has a Review Score of 7.8 (7.794)

The Review Score of 7.8 (maximum of 10) for Caledonian Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Caledonian Court in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 3.766 for Caledonian Court is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 3.766

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.028 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Caledonian Court is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 14.4 positive Reviews (72 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 14.4 Target = 0.278

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The care home is slowly, but progressing, in upgrading the home for the residents. Staff are mainly happy and chatty with several, I would say, excellent at their jobs. The new management has made great inroads to the running of the home. There are several recurring issues that need to be constantly discussed, this can be annoying but as I said it's getting better.

We are delighted to hear your positive comments about Caledonian Court, in particular, your views of management and staff. It is very pleasing to know that you are seeing positive changes in the home. Our manager has discussed the mentioned recurring issues with you. The pantry area will be closely monitored to ensure colleagues don’t leave dirty crockery in the sink.

My mother has been a resident for over three years. In that time, despite a few falls, she has had excellent care on the whole.
She seems relatively happy and content most of the time. There is a big turnover of staff which is not ideal. Residents I feel need a certain degree of continuity.
Caledonian Court now has a new manager who is working hard to improve things which is good.

Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Caledonian Court responded to this review on 11 Oct 2017:

Thank you very much for your feedback of Caledonian Court. We really appreciate your lovely comments about our home, particularly about the excellent care your mother receives. We are also delighted to hear your mum is happy and that you believe that the new manager is working hard to improve things.

I agree that a turnover of staff doesn’t give residents that continuity of care which is very important. We did have many staff leaving at the beginning of the year, so we needed to use more agency staff than we would have liked. We are happy to say that the level of agency is now minimal and although there will be lots of new faces in the home, they will soon get to know the residents and develop close bonds.

If you or your mother have any more concerns, we would be more than happy to help.

My mother is extremely dependent having suffered dementia and loss of mobility following strokes in 2015 at the end of which she was admitted to care. In the time since then my wife and I have been pleased and reassured by the care and attention mum has received. Both nursing and care staff have done their best to meet her needs which can sometimes be hard to decipher and conveyed in no uncertain terms. The unit mum is in has a warm welcoming atmosphere and particularly under the current management team, every effort is being made to ensure the fabric of the building safe and decorated in ways that offer some stimulation to the residents, although she claims she "never gets fed" mum eats heartily when food arrives and we have been impressed generally by its quality. We have had the opportunity to contribute to regular meetings of family with managers and have noticed changes as a result including improvements to the building access to transport and a wider range of activities for the residents. It is such a relief to know that mum is safe and being cared for in ways we could not offer.

In 2013 when my mother arrived at Caledonian Court Care Home it was a great place to be. Mother loved the home staff and company although she had the beginning of dementia. I also found everyone very friendly, helpful and ready to do anything. In 2015/16 things changed a little with staff shortages, quite a lot of bank nurses, which upset the residents, not being used to the usual faces. Since then the standards of care have improved again. For my part I can't thank staff enough for all the care and attention they have given my mother and I am sure she would say the same.
