  • Kintyre House Care Home, Invergordon
Kintyre House is in a beautiful location, with stunning gardens and panoramic views across the Cromarty Firth in the port of Invergordon. But it’s the team which make this feel like a warm, family home. Devoted to enriching the lives of their residents, they create activities and experiences which bring them joy.

The team support their residents to have a very active role to play in how the home is run, with resident ambassadors who do everything from running their own knitting group, to helping out on reception, giving them such a sense of purpose and achievement.

And when you walk through the door you are greeted by the home’s administrator of 26 years, who was a finalist in the Care Champion category of the National Care Awards 2023, for her commitment to championing the residents in their roles as ambassadors.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from flower arranging, dancing and live music, to woodland walks in the neighbouring Saltburn Community Gardens, to which there is direct access from the home’s car park. And in the summer, the residents love to have lunch and afternoon tea in the home’s gardens.

Residents also love to get out and about in the home’s minibus, from pub lunches, to visiting the local beaches and surrounding villages and nearby Shandwick House, with its ostriches, alpacas and peacocks. The residents also like to visit their friends at Sanctuary Care’s nearby care home, for a spot of lunch or live entertainment.

Mealtimes are also a highlight of the day, with home-cooked Scottish cuisine served daily, plus home-baking for afternoon tea.

The bedrooms are all tastefully decorated, many have walk-in wet rooms, while some of the ground floor rooms having direct access to the beautiful gardens.

There are lounge areas to enjoy activities or relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time. Kintyre House also has a family and friends Facebook group.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
The care my Mother in Law received from staff at Kintyre was 5 star, from the first meeting in the hospital to the day she died. Staff were caring, fun and dedicated and made her final months the very best she could have had. I would highly recommend Kintyre to anyone.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.297) out of 10 for Kintyre House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.497 for Kintyre House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.497
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kintyre House Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Affectionately known as the 'Mother of Kintyre', Rita was shortlisted as a finalist for the Sara Berrio Care Champion Award in the National Care Awards 2023.

Nominated for so many, many reasons, Rita is quite simply inspirational.

She supports our residents to have such an active role to play in the running of their homes, giving them such a sense of pride and belonging.

Rita even volunteers on her days off to take one of our residents shopping.

The support she gives to the families of residents is phenomenal and makes them feel truly part of the home.
When new residents move in, Rita is outside to welcome them as they arrive, helping their loved ones with the bags and settling them into their new bedroom.
