In the warmer months the large rear garden gets regular and enthusiastic use. I feel there isn't enough going on to stimulate the resident's minds or body. TV on, not loud enough to hear and music playing from another source at the same time. Never seems to be enough staff for the residents that are in the sitting room, where most of them are during the day and where most of
them are sleeping due to no stimulation and being dehydrated most of the time.

As a family we find our mother's care to be excellent. The staff are very patient and knowledgeable of all the resident's needs.
Any questions that we may have are always addressed immediately and we have no concerns leaving our mother in their care.
Reply from Chima Banda, Home manager at Pitkerro Care CentreThank you very much, Linda, for taking your precious time to review us. As I have always said please feel free to see me if there are any concerns. Pros - Really good home, very happy, good care.
Cons - Clothing tends to go missing (often) having renewed my mum's slippers 4 times!
Reply from Chima Banda, Home Manager at Pitkerro Care CentreIan, I am very sorry to hear about the missing slippers. Please come and speak to me so that we can arrange to reimburse you for these. Our staff do try very hard to avoid clothing going missing, but it can be difficult at times when clothes aren’t labelled.

The home is bright and reasonably modern. Mum's room is south facing which makes it nice and bright and cheery. The room is a nice size with en-suite shower room and special adjustable bed. The staff are very caring and usually upbeat.
I feel mum is much safer in the home than she was in her own house
with carers coming in each day.
I like that the unit mum is in has just 11 residents rooms with lounge etc. So it is a small number who live together within the larger home of a total amount of about 75 residents.

Very impressed to see residents are so well cared for. Having visited many nursing homes, it is such a relief to know that the people we know and love are well cared for. The care and attention shows from the minute you walk in the door. Would recommend to anyone looking for care for a relative.

Pitkerro nursing home is a big bright modern home with 70 single room all with en suite shower rooms. The client rooms are also bigger than some other nursing homes. The home has a very friendly and welcoming environment. The management and staff are friendly and professional and were always willing
to help mum and us adapt to this new situation, for all of us.
The staff showed compassionate care to our mum at all times. we were actively encouraged to make mums room individual and as homely as we wished. The staff appeared happy and caring at work and this transferred to mum who settled in very well and quickly, to our relief. Mum felt safe and secure in these new and strange surroundings and this was down to the staff. The staff were brilliant with mum and also us and for this I would like to thank them.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.334)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.334) out of 10 for Pitkerro Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.773 for Pitkerro Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.773
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.561 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pitkerro Care Centre is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.786
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
