From the first phone and then meeting our experience has been excellent. Three staff members in particular have always shown a genuinely caring, friendly yet professional manner to ourselves and family members. This echoes throughout the whole team. They all show patience and understanding as well as
a sense of humour. Having supported our love one for many years at home, they have helped make the transition to their care home the best it can be. We feel well supported and listened to. Different activities available in the home and the coffee and cake in the cafe have added to stimulating experience.

Having moved my dad from another care home in March this year, my sister and I were anxious about him settling. The staff in my dad's unit in Lornebank have really got to know my dad and his 'ways'. They have quickly learned what matters to him and treat him with respect and dignity. They continually
strive to find ways to help my dad both emotionally and physically. The staff show compassion and understanding to my dad and the family. Particular attention is given to ensure fluids are taken on board and regularly encourage eating and drinking when my dad needs prompts. We are very grateful for their efforts

This review relates to Oct 2024 until Jan 2025, about our Mum who has dementia. We know a new manager was appointed in March 2025. The receptionist and cleaners at Sandiacre were always caring and kind with Mum and would talk to Mum. We were really disappointed with the overall care and compassion,
the nurses were helpful at times. We felt that the care assistants were not compassionate and did not attempt to have a relationship with Mum. As new users to a care home situation, we soon released that the staff did not not know Mum, there was no initial assessment of care, we had to chase to see a care plan, and when we did see it there was incorrect information. The lack of care was highlighted as Mum's teeth were not brushed or dentures despite this being recorded as having happened daily on the care app. Mum was really anxious and agitated the whole time she was at Sandiacre. Mum was inappropriately dressed numerous times. Within a week of being at a new home Mum was 100% settled
Reply from Donna Evans, Home Manager at Sandiacre Court Care Centre

Dear Dionne, We apologise for your experiences at Sandiacre Court. Under a new management team at the home and further training and support for our team, we have made changes to our documentation and improved our standard of care for our residents, and communication to family members. We are pleased to hear that your mum is settled in her new environment.

Based on a telephone consultation with hospital my mum was assessed as requiring Peacock unit - this was entirely incorrect. She's been placed in Linden Lea unit, in a lovely room, I'm still not sure this is the best place, time will tell.
The carers we've met have been responsive and very caring
but there are simply not enough carers in Linden Lea, this should be addressed to meet the needs of the people there - this is my biggest concern during the week my mum's been a resident. Activities look great but it appears that it's up to family to ensure my mum gets to participate.

We have been very impressed with the care home and staff they have dealt amazingly with out situation and my brother has been dealt with great care and consideration. The staff are very vigilant with his needs. Room is fantastic and the fact we can decorate and make it more personal for his stay within
rules of home is fantastic.
Staff have been great and assisted and adapted greatly with his needs.

I cannot recommend this care centre enough. My mother had dementia and Alzheimer's but enjoyed every day because of the care and devotion of the staff. The management have always been totally involved in everything that goes on. They are invested in making improvements all the time. It is always
a welcoming place and all the staff are so caring and go the extra mile. Each resident is well known and their needs are always met. My mother has had the loveliest time in the home and I have felt so reassured that she was well cared for. Communication with family has been very good and the amount of activities provided are second to none. I honestly can't thank all of the staff enough for the love they showed my mother. The food and cleanliness were lovely. Thank you all so much

Our dad became a full time resident after a 2 week respite care and spent a total of 15 months before he sadly passed away last month. He sadly fell ill in February with 2 very bad infections and was hospitalised for 8 days, out for 6 days then declined dramatically week after, before we sadly lost
him. His time there was seeing him happy as he could be with dementia, but his moods became very challenging, although we did visit nearly every day or 2nd day, and as much as we could. The staff were very helpful, and really couldn't have done any more for dad or ourselves and also when we were told he was in end of life care, we chose for him to stay in Pitkerro rather than move him to hospital and given bedding, food, cups of tea, care and compassion. We decided we would collect donations at the funeral for the comfort fund for activities for the residents. If you're thinking of placing a loved one in care, look no further than Pitkerro. We wouldn't have placed our dad anywhere else. F/L

My partner spent the last few weeks of her life at Harbour Care being looked after with gentle respect. She had suffered from Dementia for quite a while, and because of additional medical problems that arose, she had spent periods in Hospital and two other Care Homes in the previous 8 months. No other
facility had been able to make myself and her family confident that she was getting the best available care. Every member of staff that we met at Harbour Care, nursing, housekeeping and even the maintenance team were caring kind and considerate, not just to my partner but to us all, her visitors. It was a sad and difficult time for us, but we can look back on it with confidence that my she was made as comfortable as possible by people who knew how to do it and did it with compassion. Thankyou.

My experience with Pitkerro has been okay, what I will say is the staff are very good, both at dealing with difficult care situations and with any issues I've encountered - they usually deal with it as soon as they can. The manager there is easy to chat with and will work with you to make any adjustments
you need done for loved one's.
As someone who's never experienced a care home before my overall experience has been quite challenging and I've found that aspect really emotional and difficult, but with a few adjustments from management and staff I am as happy as I can be for my mother to live out the rest of her time there.
Possibly the only thing I'd say is more support for relatives is something they should look at but I certainly would recommend Pitkerro.

Mum has been in Harbour Care Centre since Jan 24. She has settled in really well, helped by bringing her own bed, bedding and personal items. The staff have been kind and helpful on all occasions, meeting mum's needs as her dementia worsens. There is entertainment and activities daily and where possible
they are outside the home. All the family who visit mum have been impressed with the care and activities.

My grandmother has been a resident on the dementia wing for a little over 3 months and was very agitated when she first arrived.
The first few weeks were a challenge but all of the staff were all very professional, caring and engaged with the residents very positively. I have been amazed that they
have been able to get her to settle to the degree she has.
When you first discover the cost of care it seems like (and is) a lot of money but I can see now why this is the case.
Since arriving, she is in better health and happier than I have seen her in some time. Thank you to all of the team at Harbour Care.

My mum has been in Pitkerro for nearly 18 months, as a family, our experience has been very positive. There have been times when my mum has been unsettled, the team worked alongside the community health professionals to address these issues ensuring that the family's opinion was taken into account.
My mum is treated with compassion, warmth and kindness, staff ensure that her dignity is maintained. All the staff take time to interact with residents and visitors. They are enthusiastic, providing a great range of activities, experiences and activities. As a family, we appreciate the Manager and the management team's open-door policy. Issues that we have raised have been dealt with promptly. The environment is spotlessly clean, I have never experienced any unpleasant odours. My mum's laundry is done by the home, there have been no issues. The food and cakes look delicious.
My mum is very settled, which is a great comfort to the family. I would highly recommend Pitkerro.

Dad has been at Harbour Care Centres since August. It has been very difficult for us as a family to witness his progression of Alzheimer's. However, dad seems to have settled into Harbour Care really well and is content. The staff are all lovely and do a really good job of supervising dad. Whenever
we visit, we are made to feel welcome and always offered a tea or coffee. Dad's room is always clean and tidy. The communal lounge looks lovely with all the Christmas decorations. We are really pleased with the care that dad is receiving.

Mum moved to Lornebank about 4 weeks ago from another care home. The reason she moved is that we were unhappy with the care being provided at her previous home. I have found that everyone is friendly and welcoming from the receptionist, domestic staff, and kitchen staff to the nursing staff.
She is
in the Livingstone unit which is a small unit with only 10 female residents and usually the same members of staff on duty which ensures consistency of care.
The home itself is bright, airy and very clean.
There are many activities taking place which she is encouraged to participate in.
She herself appears to be happy with her surroundings.
She is always clean and dry and appears well cared for.
A menu is put on the board daily.
All in all, I am very happy with the care being provided. The location is good for family visits and some shops and restaurants nearby if the weather is suitable for getting her out.
Would not hesitate to recommend this care home to others.

It was a daunting experience having to look for a suitable care home for my mother. But after visiting Lornebank Care Centre and being greeted by a staff member at the reception it was an easy choice. We visited two other homes, but they did not even come close to Lornebank. During our visit, all the
various parts of the centre were explained and we were advised as to which section mum would be best suited. All the staff were very cheerful and easy to engage with. It was a bit of a heartache taking her there and leaving her for the first day. But the staff were very reassuring that she would settle and they would keep an eye on her. So far she has only asked about three times "When am I going home". All the staff at Lornebank are first rate and we feel happy mum is with such caring professional people.

Lornebank was an easy choice for us when Mum's dementia became too difficult for us to cope with in the family home. We visited several care homes in the Hamilton area, and Lornebank felt right when we saw the facilities and spoke to the staff. Mum has been resident here now for around a year, and we're
very happy with the care and attention she's received during that time. Not only that, there are plenty of activities and events to keep her interactive and engaged with those around her.

My husband has been in this excellent facility for just over 2 weeks now, the 12 homes we visited before were not for him, but when we walked into Pitkerro we just started smiling. All the residents were smiling, and as staff passed by, be they domestics, care assistants, or nurses they all spoke and
smiled at any resident they met. The building was spotlessly clean and we felt very hopeful. We met with the Manager and the Deputy Manager. They were very professional but also very warm and so very approachable. Their enthusiasm when they talked about their residents and the standard of care they expected from their staff was so reassuring. My lovely husband was allocated a room and he has settled so well. The staff are amazing and treat him with gentleness and respect. I would love to mention all the staff by name but my special thanks go to the manager, deputy manager, and Senior Nurses, I can never thank you enough for your warmth and kindness.
