Overall experience is good. The staff are caring, friendly and responsive. It feels safe and warm for the residents. However, the rooms and common areas need to be updated, furniture wise and freshened up/decorated. There should be more attention to the healthier food, more vegetable variation. Management
is friendly and approachable.

Mum was at the home for 6 weeks of respite care, I was apprehensive when I first left her.
The place was very clean and the atmosphere calm but still I wondered about how the care would be, but I need not have worried. They took care of Mum kindly, could see she was clean and well taken care of.

My husband was transferred from hospital to Ashmead Care Centre for ongoing care following an allergic reaction to a prescribed drug.
The care received at Ashmead has been wonderful, the nurses, carers and all other staff are so friendly and very helpful. All staff have contributed to my husband's
recovery and I am pleased to say he is now well enough to come home.

My dad passed away yesterday after being in the care home for just over a year. Throughout he had the best care and compassion shown by all members of staff. My mum has been a resident for over five years and she also receives great care.

Ashmead provides outstanding dementia care with nursing. The staff, regardless of their role within the home, went out of their way to show friendship, kindness and compassion to my dad - even the cleaning staff knew his name and greeted him. On my parent's 6th wedding anniversary, the staff made up
a training room with banners and balloons and served a family meal to us all. I will never forget the kindness shown to us. Thank you all.

My father was admitted to this place in May 2023 for end of life care.
We were met on May 5th by staff including the manager, who said 'we can turn people away for arriving at the wrong time' in full hearing of our terminally ill father who was lying on a stretcher in the entrance to the home.
What
kind of person would say such a thing? Even the ambulance crew were disgusted.
In the 7 weeks our father was there we had minimal contact with the manager. A wholly unsuitable and unfeeling person to be in such a position! Her Deputy was so much more humane and understanding.
She is management material, not the manager!
Best member of staff was a nurse!
On the day my father passed the manager didn't once come to us as a family, despite us sitting with our father from 8am until 4pm, to offer sympathy or condolences. Eight hours! What kind of person does that?
Utterly disgusted!

The service staff are all very commendable and especially two particular nurses. As for general staff, nurses and carers, nurses are mostly caring and friendly - unfortunately, a small few sulky agency are rude or bad understanding of English.
Male staff all good.
Housekeepers and cleaners are all
top-notch.
Front-of-house staff polite and polished.
One lady is nice, in pink, excellent and very kind.
Would recommend My main grip was good, very samey - much better in the hospital.

Since my mum, was admitted to Ashmead, I try to visit as much as I can. When I visit, I find my mum well looked after, she is always fresh and clean and well dressed. The staff are all lovely, caring and professional.
One of the nurses is always prioritising my needs as well as my mum's. The rooms
are massive.

My mother has been here for about five weeks. Ashmead lives up to the good reviews I had read previously, it seems to have improved the activities to more choice and daily.
This is very important for my mother and the others here. good stimulation improves everyone's well-being. One staff member, in
particular, is lovely and kind, everyone appreciates her. She did a lovely job with my mum's manicure. Four other staff members are all very caring and attentive, it is good to be able to communicate Mum's needs to professional caring staff.

My elderly father, aged 102, has just spent two weeks staying in Ashmead. He was cared for with love, dignity and excellent general care. All staff, from management to cleaners, were friendly, courteous and helpful. I would highly recommend this home. The only drawbacks were, at times, a shortage of
staff, and this, of course, does impact the residents.

I visited my father several times, unannounced to find Ashmead Care Centre spotlessly clean. The staff have always been extremely helpful and cheerful. My father is being very well cared for. He and his room are kept very clean and tidy and he is being treated with great respect. Thank you to all the
staff at Ashmead.

I have always found the staff to be most attentive to my mother's needs. They are caring and professional in their abilities to carry out their work. They are also extremely happy which is a good sign. The nurses are most capable and also show compassion and know how to do their jobs. The room, where
my mother lives, is bright and clean and is cleaned on a regular basis. My mother is bedbound so cannot participate in activities.

I just wanted to add a new review of Ashmead Care Centre. My mother was at the home for 20 months before her passing last year. During those 20 months and the pandemic, I saw how hard the staff work for all the residents, from the kitchen, cleaners, carers, nurses and management. All work for the safety
and well-being of all the residents. I wanted to give something back to them for the wonderful care of my mother. So I became a volunteer, just a few hours once a week just speaking to the residents, singing, dancing and having fun. During my time at the home, I only see great care and understanding towards all the residents. It is a wonderful home and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Ashmead.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.710)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.710) out of 10 for Ashmead Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.755 for Ashmead Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (200 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.755
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.955 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashmead Care Centre is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 110 registered maximum number of service users is 22. 21 Positive Reviews ÷ 22 = 0.955
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hello, my name is Luminita and I am the Home Manager at Ashmead.

I am a wife and a mother born, raised and trained in Romania where I practiced paediatric nursing before moving to the UK. I trained to become an adult nurse (RGN), and I am proud to have worked as a senior carer, an RGN, Clinical Lead, the Deputy Manager and the Home Manager in the same care home, Ashmead where I continue to be the Home Manager today. I am passionate about delivering great care to the people living with us and as a Home Manager, I take pride in not only providing good quality care but also great hospitality services to the people that live with us. I believe in continuing professional development and supporting my staff to develop themselves to grow in their careers. It has been a very rewarding journey so far as my 34 years of nursing continues at Ashmead, and I aim to continue to help improve our services for our residents.
