Abbotsleigh Mews is a purpose-built care home, welcoming those in need of nursing, residential and dementia care.
Short stay, convalescence and palliative care also available.

The home is arranged into different houses for different types of care and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds. Residents also have a choice of lounge and dining areas, a sensory room and activities rooms.

Registered nurses and well-trained care assistants know that it's important to create a friendly atmosphere at the home, giving all residents as much independence as possible, while also making sure that they have all the care and help they require.

Residents are served nutritious meals that are tailored to individual diet plans. Afternoon tea and fresh fruit platters are popular, as are homemade cakes.

A versatile activities programme aims to help residents maintain their independence as long as possible. Residents can enjoy a wide range of hobbies, coffee mornings, outings, music and other games, arts and crafts as well as weekly visits from the neighbouring nursery and part of an ongoing initiative to help bring old and young people together.

Dad has been a resident of Calvin House for the past four years. The continuity of staff has played a major part in the excellent care that he has received. Dad is always treated, with dignity and respect, as the person that he is, rather than the condition that he has. The range of activities organised,
provides regular stimulation of body and mind. Any incident, or concern for his health and wellbeing, is immediately shared and discussed with me. This gives me great peace of mind. I am always made to feel welcome when I drop by - a real home-from-home environment. Efforts are continuously made by the team to improve this homely feel; e.g. making the resident's bedroom doors look like street doors (each with an individual look). From manager to gardener, senior supervisor to cleaner - they all work as a team to maintain excellent care for the residents.
Reply from Jayne Duck, Customer Services Administator at Abbotsleigh Mews Care HomeThank you for your review. It is a pleasure to hear that your Dad is cared for so well and that you have peace of mind knowing this.

My grandmother has been resident at Abbotsleigh Mews for the past 2 years. She is happy and settled. Staff are kind, caring and treat her with dignity and respect. She is encouraged to participate in activities and staff are aware of her likes and dislikes. They are always welcoming to relatives and
involve us in decisions concerning my grandmother's care. I can relax knowing that she is in good hands.

My mother receives the most wonderful care. Staff always have time for my mother (and the other residents too!) whether it is to help her with personal care, her comfort, eating, drinking or simply a cuddle and reassurance. My mother is able to retain her independence albeit she does not have a lot
left and can choose what she does and when. The staff keep me informed of any changes in her health or well-being, and treat us like family when we visit. Cannot praise the staff highly enough.

When my uncle first came to this care home he could not feed himself, walk or make any conversation but within a few weeks, the transformation was amazing. He could drink from a cup himself, his eyes sparked again, with the help of a frame he could do small steps. The staff are all very caring and attentive
and the proof was there for us all to see.

Bevan House undergoing refurbishment caused staff so much extra work where at one time residents had to spend time in their rooms - causing staff to visit on lots more occasions.
The care my husband has been given was still carried out and meals though difficult were as normal as were drinks and activities,
still done as far as possible - rooms cleaned and free from dust.
I can only offer praise for the staff and the caring in this unit, second to none.

The care my father received in the dementia unit and later in the nursing unit was outstanding. The skill patience and humour with which the nurses and carers treated my father was wonderful. They did everything they could to make his final 18 months as comfortable and as normal as possible. He always
had everything he needed and in his words "they treat me like a king". It was important to me to find a care home that would suit his personality. I certainly found it in Abbotsleigh Mews.
Reply from Emily Wilson, Customer Service Administrator at Abbotsleigh Mews Care HomeThank you for sharing such lovely feedback with us, we really appreciate it. My nan was looked after so well. She was treated like a human being and the staff went out of their way to get to know who my nan was and what her background was. I can't thank all the staff enough.

The loving support the staff offer my father is second to none. The senior carer in Calvin House takes so much time to update my father with Crystal Palace football achievements, which was so important to him in the past. Her husband too is a lifelong supporter. (Poor man).
The other wonderful carer
is the deputy team leader who's endless care makes my father smile and laugh as she talks to him about is past adventurous life. The team leader creates a smooth and dignified home where residents are given so much time and care.

My review as a relative is regarding nursing care over the past year. The nursing staff seem dedicated to the residents at this nursing care unit. The care residents receive is dependent on sufficient staff being available at the times and the number of hoists available.
Most staff treat the residents
in a dignified way.

My grandmother has been in Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home a week and a half but I have visited every day - sometimes twice. There is an open door policy that you can visit when you like. The staff and even office staff are wonderful and kind and can't do enough for my nan and us as a family. She is exceptionally
well cared for and I'd be happy to be a resident there! If it's expensive it doesn't matter to me. It's the care of my relative that matters, her health and happiness and I can sleep well at night and not worry.

As shown below my experience has been excellent, especially in regards to the staff, who really do care for the residents. I have no negatives - but I would be less than honest if I did not react to the costs, which on the face of it, do appear exorbitant. Otherwise, I have only sincere praise for everyone
concerned. Many thanks.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.665)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.665) out of 10 for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.665 for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (270 Excellents x 5) + (86 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 376 Ratings = 4.665
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
