Abbotsleigh Mews is a purpose-built care home, welcoming those in need of nursing, residential and dementia care.
Short stay, convalescence and palliative care also available.

The home is arranged into different houses for different types of care and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds. Residents also have a choice of lounge and dining areas, a sensory room and activities rooms.

Registered nurses and well-trained care assistants know that it's important to create a friendly atmosphere at the home, giving all residents as much independence as possible, while also making sure that they have all the care and help they require.

My mum is currently at Abbotsleigh for respite after being in hospital for a considerable amount of time. The care she has been receiving is brilliant and to see her happy and safe is such a relief for me. She has a purpose in life again and is loving being there. She has her own room which we have
been able to decorate with lots of her personal items to make it feel more like home. The staff are amazing and have all been really lovely and caring. I do have to give a particular shout out to Jenny who has been so lovely and supportive to both my mum and I. You can tell how much she cares. I know my mum is in safe hands when I leave her after my visits. I really hope my mum considers staying here as she has loved having people around her every day, participating in the entertainment (she told me she played golf the other day!) and she is loving the social part of being in a community - something she does not get when living at home. I would definitely recommend this care home.

I cannot thank the staff highly enough for the care whilst my mam Margaret has been in there care now my mam is at end off life.the nurses always explain to my mam what they are doing even though she has dementia and are always there when you need to talk to them.the nursing staff do not get enough

From the first time I met Kelly and Jen when they came to visit mum at home, I felt reassured she would be well looked after. Kelly, the manager, was professional, approachable and clearly runs the home with the right values. Jen, the senior, was equally kind and attentive. Both took the time to really
listen and understand mum, which made a difficult decision much easier.

The home itself is quite simple and no-frills, but what it may lack in luxury it more than makes up for in the people who work there. The staff are warm, caring and treat the residents with genuine respect and kindness.

I also really value that I'm welcome to visit at any time, day or night, which shows the openness and confidence they have in the care they provide.

Knowing mum is surrounded by people who genuinely care gives me real peace of mind.

To date, we have found the experience very positive. Being kept informed of any health issues that have arisen, my aunt seems happy and content. I especially would like to mention Ruth, the activities lady. That has gone well above and beyond of her interaction with my aunt and other residents I have
observed when visiting the home.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Abbotsleigh Mews Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. We will certainly pass your kind comments on to Ruth as it is always nice to know when you are doing a good job. Thank you again for your feedback.

Apart from the excellent care my mother is receiving, I wanted to remark on the excellent communication we receive from Abbotsleigh. We received intermittent and very few updates on activities, monies remaining and the recent comms on issues with the new portal. I greatly appreciate all the engagement
information, and the monthly updates on invoices.

My mum Violet stayed in Smythe for five years; she was very happy there. Sadly, she fractured her hip and moved into Berens Unit. The staff and carers on both units were kind, supportive and caring.
The staff would always take time to talk to me. Sadly, Mum passed away in Berens, she was only there
3 weeks. I was with Mum when she passed, and the care and support I had was lovely. My mum's end of life was exceptional. All the staff are so kind, including the office staff. I would not hesitate to recommend Abbotsleigh Mews. Thank you.

Mum was a resident in Calvin House for just over 3 years until she passed away at the beginning of October. She always told me how much she "liked it here". She was always treated with dignity and respect. All the carers were conscientious and had a great deal of empathy, especially during Mum's last
few days.
Mum enjoyed the activities and enjoyed singing and dancing when she was able.
I enjoyed visiting Mum and having coffee and a chat. She loved to talk.
The carers were diligent in recording Mum's eating and drinking. If ever Mum was unwell or needed review the senior carers were always very proactive. I can't fault the care on Calvin House.

My mum has been a resident since April 25
after suffering a massive stroke
As a family we were dubious about putting her in a care home however the staff have definitely put us at ease and we don't have to worry about her being cared for, all the staff play their part in making mum feel at ease and
try to encourage her to take part in any activity that may be going on
If we have any questions or queries relating to anything we can always rely on Akash, Mel or Alice to answer them.

My Mum has been very well cared for in the 2 1/2 years she's been at Abbotsleigh Mews. She has severe physical disabilities following a stroke and she has been totally reliant on the exceptional nursing care she has received. Additional to her physical care, she has been treated with real affection.
The care staff chat with her and make her laugh. The unit is always kept very clean and the gardens are absolutely lovely.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.643)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.643) out of 10 for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.643 for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (268 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 387 Ratings = 4.643
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
