Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home

I have nothing but praise and admiration for the dedication of all the staff and the great care and love they give my wife and other residents in Calvin House and other parts of Abbotsleigh. I am particularly grateful for what they have done for residents, despite the personal risks they have faced, and for their concern and support for relatives and friends of residents during the stressful period of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbotsleigh.

We can't thank the staff enough for the outstanding care and kindness you showed to my husband over the last ten months. Each staff member went over and above in helping him to settle in. They were patient, kind and compassionate, respectful at all times and they showed genuine love for him. I would like to name each member of staff personally but there isn't enough space. There are some exceptional people working here.

My mother-in-law has been a resident since August 2018, but deteriorated rapidly over the last few weeks. The staff have been very good during this period when my mother-in-law started to refuse food and drink; they tried everything to persuade her to eat and drink, but to no avail. My mother-in-law was difficult to manage at times, but we cannot speak highly enough about the standard of care and attention she received, particularly over the last few weeks, until her passing.

All the staff at Abbotsleigh Mews are kind and caring. They have gone out of their way to make sure that my, nearly 95 year old, father settles in well to the home and feels safe and happy. The staff have also taken great care of me, which is so kind. Well done - keep up the good work in your spotlessly clean care home.

I find room too small, although ensuite much smaller than other homes that I have stayed in. (I cannot walk). Not much space for clothes or for personal items on bedside drawers. No room for bookshelves apart from small beside case on bedside drawers or for DVD player. Breakfast very good, cereals and cooked items, eggs, bacon, sausages, toasted cheese (which I like particularly). Lunches not to my liking and lack variety. Staff, from manager down excellent, very friendly and helpful.

I'm very happy with mum's care. I've never been aware of anything to raise any concerns. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. Mum seems happy. That's good. I can leave her happy knowing that she is in very good hands.

They are always looking for ways to engage my father in his interests singing and playing the music that he likes a first-class home.

The staff always have a smile on their face and nothing is too much trouble. There are many activities for the residents and families to join in if they wish to do so! The home is kept clean and consistently decorated for special occasions I.e Valentine's/Easter - It always looks colourful and welcoming.

My mother was happy in the home. She was safe and well cared for. The activity organiser got her to partake and go to the lounge every day. The gardens are spectacular and she often enjoyed an afternoon out there in the sunshine with a cup of tea. There was never any 'old people's home' smell about the place, although her room needed an update.

My mother is currently spending some respite time at Abbotsleigh Mews following a broken ankle. She is 86 and incredibly active usually. Our biggest concerns were for her health and social needs. We really need not have worried, the nursing staff are 100% professional and dedicated and the events manager arranges bespoke activities each day. From the moment we made contact with Abbotsleigh Mews, my mother's recovery began. In the short time she has been there, all of her fears of ever having to reside in a care home, no longer exist. All of the staff have gone that extra mile to make my mother comfortable, relaxed and happy. Thank you very much.

The facility is secure and safe for residents.

On visiting, I found the staff very welcoming, all with smiling faces. The preparation leading up to Christmas was great. Lots of decorations etc. There is always plenty of staff around and they really seem to care about the health and welfare of the residents. You feel a sense of care and interest in the welfare of every resident.

It proved to be all of those good things and more. Our dad was very happy there. He received excellent care, love and support. He was treated respectfully and at the end with dignity. My brother and I can't thank the staff enough for caring and supporting our dad. Thank you

Staff pleasant, helpful, considerate - all as usual. Just a minor problem, also found sometimes before, is that my friend does not always have the daily paper she pays for, but the one from the day before and when I ask staff for help they cannot find the correct issue - this is always late afternoon when I visit. Granted she only holds the paper without really reading it as far as we can tell nowadays, but this visitor would appreciate it for myself and to show that my friend is not being disregarded.

My Mum has Alzheimer's and we have been using Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home, Sidcup for her respite care since April 2018, using both Smythe House and more recently Calvin House. From the beginning, we have been impressed by the friendly and helpful staff in Admin and each House. Following Mum's assessment, she spent two periods at Smythe (conventional residential) and the last one in Calvin (dementia residential). We cannot praise ALL the staff enough for the care they have given Mum, providing her with a safe and comfortable environment and us with peace of mind knowing she is being well cared for. On behalf of my father and I, we would like to take the opportunity to express how very grateful I am for the care given to my mother. Her accommodation and the care home decor is very satisfactory.

The catering at Calvin House is of quite a high standard and the portions are always plentiful which is reassuring.

The gardens at the Centre are well maintained as is the garden at Calvin House. In the summer months mum enjoys walking through the garden looking at the various plants and flowers which she has always enjoyed throughout her life.

The staff team have always acted in a caring, sensitive and professional way and we would like them to know they are very much appreciated by all the family.
