My father lived at Crossways for about a year. Day-to-day care was generally good, and many staff were kind.

However, there were serious concerns around the time of his death. A blood test showed he should have been sent to hospital, but this did not happen and we were informed only the following

day. He later passed away from a related cause.

We were also given conflicting information about his condition on the day he died, which was very upsetting.

After his death, we asked to be told when his belongings could be collected but were never contacted. My brother later found that his clothes had been disposed of without our knowledge or consent.

While there were positives, these issues around communication and decision-making significantly affected our experience.

Reply from Sarah Stacey, Manager at Crossways Nursing HomeWe are deeply sorry for the distress caused to you and your family at such a difficult time. We understand how important personal belongings are after the loss of a loved one. This occurred due to a communication breakdown, and we sincerely regret the upset caused. As per our communication with you the items have now been located and await collection.

We have reviewed our procedures to prevent this from happening again.

The team at Crossways supported my mum over the many years she was resident welcoming and supporting my father as well who visited every day. They not only made it mums home but welcomed all of us when we visited inviting us to host a family party in the gardens to mark mums 90th birthday. During COVID
they helped us all stay connected to mum via video calls keeping us regularly updated on how she was doing.
Crossways is always a joyous place to be with lots of stimulating activities for residents - mum was particularly fond of the visiting animals and nursery group. Although her verbal communication deteriorated staff always treated her with dignity and respect, understanding her likes and dislikes.
They have not only cared for mum, but have also cared for dad, and continue to offer him comfort and friendship since mum's passing just before Christmas. Choosing specialist care for a loved one is never easy but in Crossways we found a truly amazing home.

My mother was a resident for six years and sadly passed before Christmas 2025 following a long period with dementia.

Crossways has throughout this period provided the highest standard of care and personal attention to my mother and my father as non resident.

In my parents time of greatest need,

Crossways should be commended and thank you to them all.

Mum lived at Crossways Care Home for over six years, and we'll always be grateful for how lovingly she was looked after. The staff were warm, patient and genuinely caring with her and with everyone there. Dad visited every day, and they always made him feel welcome and supported.
The Occupational Therapists
kept things lively with stimulating activities, singers visiting, and special celebrations. Zara's homemade cakes always made birthdays feel extra special. And Alex's fabulous barbecues were real highlights - those afternoons brought residents, staff, and families together in such a joyful way.
The nursing staff provided excellent, attentive medical care, and their genuine love and affection for Mum and the other residents was clear in everything they did. The care staff too were always gentle and thoughtful. The office team were equally wonderful.
We can't thank Sarah and the whole team enough for the dedication, love, and professionalism they showed throughout Mum's time there. x

Mum chose to move into Crossways after having enjoyed periods of respite care in the home when we went away on holiday but also having seen and experienced the love and care shown towards my dad who moved into the home in 2020 during Covid. The staff team are all very welcoming and take time to get
to know each resident and their likes and dislikes and are more than happy to work with families to ensure their relative has the best experience possible however long their stay and whatever their circumstances. There is a wide range of activities for residents to enjoy - a well maintained garden, visits from the local nursery and high schools, special teas, bbq's and Zara's cakes along with outings to the local garden centre and park etc.
Sarah and Lisa hold regular relatives meetings to discuss any changes /seek families views and ideas on how the home can continue to improve the experiences of residents. The home is very well run and a joy to visit and would highly recommend it.

Moving Mum into a care home was one of the hardest decisions we've ever made. Mum had lost her mobility, was living with vascular dementia and had never been away from Dad before. She was understandably anxious and unsettled, but from the day Mum arrived, we knew she was in good hands.
Crossways supported
Mum with incredible care and kindness throughout the years, and Dad got to visit daily. Every birthday and special occasion was celebrated with thought and warmth, hosting our large family with amazing homemade cakes and afternoon tea. They truly made Mum feel loved and included.
What meant the most was how well they got to know Mum as a person, her likes, dislikes, and what brought her comfort. The activities were incredible; there was always something happening. The staff are exceptional. They not only cared for Mum with dignity and respect but have also given Dad incredible friendship and support throughout. We cannot thank you enough for the love and support you have given Mum. x

My dear sister in law has been a resident at Crossways's for 3 years. She had not lived anywhere else all her life, however the Parkinson's disease meant she could no longer manage on her own.
From first meeting Sarah the manager of the Home, my sister-in-law was settled
Crossways became Janet's new
home and she loved it. She got to know the carers and the staff very well as they were all employed at Crossways.
When I used to visit all the family and her friends we were made so welcome, in fact it felt like my second home as well!
Nothing was too much for them to accommodate for my sister in law. Janet was a very firm believer in Jesus, I knew that this was the right place for her.
She loved the food, which I have to say was excellent.
Due to her condition, she did stay in her room mostly, but this was perfect and everyone was so helpful.
Sadly, but joyfully for her, she has now passed on to be with her Lord Jesus.
The family are so grateful for her time spent at Crossways.

From the moment I walked into Crossways last Christmas, I knew it was suitable for my frail father. He had just been admitted to hospital having lived independently with carers visiting three times a day for the past couple of years. I visited Crossways with my daughter and her partner. Zara greeted
us warmly and gave us a thorough tour of the home, showing us the well-equipped, warm, bright rooms and the lovely communal rooms full of settled and happy residents. The staff were brilliant and there was no doubting their enthusiasm, commitment and empathy. They were friendly to family and visitors and very caring to the residents. Sometimes they faced upset and disoriented residents, as indeed my father certainly was, but they got to know each resident personally and knew what made them comfortable. In fact when i visited after my father passed away (peacefully at the nursing home after 4 months) I was so happy to see the 'upstairs girls' and we had a shriek and group hug. The extra-curricular activities were great - the staff (Lisa and Vanessa) organised trips out, people visiting with petting animals, entertainers and Zara always baked us wonderful cakes for the residents celebrating at the home, with their friends and family. The food was delicious and there was always tea and biscuits in between the lovely food. The office staff led by Sarah and Alex were always on hand to give advice and offer us support and that was extremely comforting at a time when my father was really unhappy and struggling. When he passed away during the night in April, the overnight support me and my husband received was absolutely spot-on. We were given access to my father throughout the evening and were there to say our last goodbyes and see him taken to the funeral directors. I/we cannot recommend Crossways enough - a lovely environment with equally lovely staff. Caroline and family.

Sarah is a great manager and the whole place has such a great team of carers and nurses. My Aunt was at Crossways for around three years and it was only the second home she had ever lived in. She was very happy there and it was so nice that she got to spend the last few years of her life in such an
environment.

My mum came to Crossways in January 2023 - we were so lucky to find this place. The staff are wonderful, friendly, caring and always helpful and approachable. Also the staff were extremely constant - so we got to know them all and they knew mum so well. They did so many different things to make her
feel happy and comfortable. It was such a weight off my mind to know she was being so well looked after. There were lots of different activities to take part in - a Shetland pony even came to visit her in her room! Whenever we took mum out or had events, the staff all knew exactly what was going on - and would prepare her, keep meals and generally help us with everything. We can't thank them enough.

My mother was very happy during her time in Crossways nursing home.
The staff were extremely kind, gentle and very attentive to mum's needs, whenever I went to visit her she would always have a big smile on her face!

The wide range of activities provided for the residents of Crossways was impressive.
The

dedication and absolute hard work of the staff ensured that, every day, the residents were happily involved in various activities. Staff members were always available to offer help and guidance.

Having had first hand experience of their staff's true dedication and kindness towards their residents, I would strongly recommend Crossways to anyone looking to place a loved one into a care facility.

My mum moved to Crossways Nursing Home in November 2020 during the Covid lockdown period, a far from ideal time. We were very lucky, Crossways couldn't have done more to make us all welcome. Since then, the care and kindness mum has received has been exceptional, covering all aspects of her well-being
from practical/personal care to simulation through activities. I have confidence that she is safe and happy, and I am sure she is living the best life she can given her various disabilities.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.944)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.944) out of 10 for Crossways Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.944 for Crossways Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (341 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 356 Ratings = 4.944
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossways Nursing Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
