My mother spent the last 11 months of her life at Elizabeth Lodge after 5 years with Alzheimer's. Originally placed by local authority in a sub standard care home, I could not have wished for a better outcome for my mum's move and end of life care she received at Elizabeth Lodge. From my research and
experience of care homes in the area you will not find a better home dedicated to Dementia care and all the skill required in delivering good quality care in a professional manner and most importantly with the upmost dignity. If any problems or issues did occur, nurses and carers were always there to listen, help and wherever possible learn from. A real asset to this care home. Also this care home does not rely on any agency staff. A very important point for the consistency of quality care.
A huge thank you to all the staff and management at Elizabeth Lodge. I miss visiting you all!

I am very happy that my mother is here. The staff are attentive, professional and friendly. They do everything they can to support and look after residents. My mother's health has improved enormously since she has been here because she is well looked after by the carers and the nursing staff.
There
is a full programme of entertainment and activities throughout the year which the residents can choose to participate in if they so wish. Visitors are also welcomed to some of the events to enjoy them alongside the residents.
The communal facilities are well appointed with a coffee room, garden area ( both of which guests have access to) dining room and hair salon. My mother particularly enjoys her weekly visits to the hair salon.
There is no restriction on when guests may visit or the number of visits. Everyone is always friendly and you feel welcome and a valued part of the community.

Elizabeth Lodge care home goes out of their way to accommodate every resident according to their needs. They organised a Greek Easter dinner for all their Greek residents to in the lovely dining area. The home had put in a lot of effort to organise a sit down meal for the residents and their families.
There was Greek music, wine and Greek deserts. The staff were friendly and accommodating and Jan, the entertainer snd events organiser has organised everything perfectly. My mother and I enjoyed the meal. I thank the home for giving my mother and I the opportunity to celebrate Easter together as mum was unable to go home for the celebration. Thank you!

From the moment you walk through the front door, you are warmly welcomed.
ALL the carers are welcoming with a lovely greeting and friendly smile.
The events manager is always coming up with different entertainment for the residents which is throughly enjoyed by the residents and their families.
It's
so lovely as well to be given the opportunity to sit with your loved one for a meal, where it gives the relatives a chance to meet other relatives which provides a great atmosphere - thank you it means a lot.

This is my second review for Elizabeth Lodge, but I felt compelled to write again as Mum is doing so well. At a recent family wedding, when people asked about her, the word I kept using was "thriving" - and that's why I wanted to share this update.
A special mention to the lifestyle team - - who encouraged
Mum to rediscover her love of painting after more than 20 years. Thanks to the regular art club they run, she is creating again, which has been wonderful for her and so moving for us.
The home feels like an extended family. Housekeeping do a brilliant job and always take time to chat, reception is welcoming and helpful, and the carers are kind, responsive and professional. The management team also know each resident and their family personally, which gives real reassurance.
We are so grateful to everyone for the difference they've made in Mum's life.

The staff at Elizabeth Lodge are very caring and kind. We are so grateful that our mum is well cared for and also has stimulation and fun too. Putting a loved one into a home is one of the hardest decisions to make, we were unable to keep our mum at home as her Alzheimer's was advanced. She is settled
at Elizabeth Lodge and it gives us great peace of mind to know she is safe and happy there.

Comfortable sleeping and sitting areas. Very well looked after gardens. Always some sort of activity going on including outings away from the home. Very clean and tidy. Rooms you can take your relative and have tea and cake with enough room for three or four people to visit at the same time. Quick and
plenty of information about your relative at all times.

Elizabeth Lodge looks after my mum beautifully. She's safe, clean and well-fed. When I visit they make me feel very welcome and I can go whenever I want. Elizabeth Lodge constantly makes the environment welcoming and the staff are marvellous. They have a restaurant experience which I think is great
and plenty of activities to entertain the residents. My only problem is that my mum doesn't join in very often but they always ask her. I know my mum feels safe there.

I looked at many Homes for my relative but Elizabeth Lodge outshone all the others by far. They provide excellent care and support in a comfortable setting. The staff are respectful and kind. Continuity of staff is also good. The family are so happy with the dramatic improvement in our relative's health
and wellbeing since moving here and feel grateful for the peace of mind that this gives us.
The menus are varied with good meal choices. The incredible recreation coordinator provides an abundance of activities and entertainment which includes regular trips and outings. There is also a large secure garden and outdoor seating area which is utilised for BBQs, parties etc. Congratulations to the management team for running such a wonderful home.

Elizabeth Lodge is a friendly happy home with compassionate staff committed to making a difference in people’s lives. The Customer Liaison Officer was my first point of contact and with her knowledge and help, my brothers' transition from the Community to a care home was seamless. The Lifestyle/Wellbeing
Team enables residents to choose and engage in the home's varied plentiful activities programme. The lead is confidence-inspiring with her creative and person-centred approach. They have helped my brother immensely by giving purpose and structure to his day. All staff seem happy in their individual roles and work together as a team delivering a high standard of care. The manager once told me she feels time is one of the best things a person can give. She encourages staff to engage with residents as much as possible which is evident all throughout the home. All are generous with their time which builds people's dignity and self-respect.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.641)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.641) out of 10 for Elizabeth Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.904 for Elizabeth Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (160 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.904
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.737 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elizabeth Lodge is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 87 registered maximum number of service users is 17.4. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.4 = 0.862
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2004

I’m a nurse by training. I obtained a nursing degree in the Philippines and qualified as a nurse in the UK. I worked in the NHS here before making the move into the care home sector. I was keen to gain experience in a different setting, where I could make a difference to older people and get to know the people I care for. I’ve been working for Care UK since 2004.

Like any home manager worth their salt, I take pride in ensuring that we’re delivering superb care to every resident of Elizabeth Lodge. I’m focused on improving all aspects of what we do here. What makes it easier is that I have such a dedicated and supportive team. I love motivating and inspiring them to fulfil their potential while achieving excellent outcomes for our residents.

Although I’ve been a home manager for some time, I still get a buzz out of the simple things – like walking around the home, greeting residents and their families, and seeing everyone enjoying time together.
