All the staff were helpful and caring and the admissions procedure was completed efficiently. I am confident that my mother was well looked after, during her two-week respite care.

My former husband spent the last 5 months of his life at Elizabeth Lodge, we had to move him from his residential home, as they could no longer cope with his medical needs. He was in the last stages of MS and in a poor state of general health.

We were worried about moving such a sick man because of his physical and mental health. However, from the moment he arrived my worries were over, he was cared for with the dignity and respect I wanted for him by all staff working at Elizabeth Lodge. The staff worked well with us as his family and understood the importance of working in partnership with the family, and with other care workers which included the GP, the hospice and district nurses. This put together meant the all-round needs of my relative were met and his family supported. I know we were and still are very grateful to Elizabeth Lodge for all they did for us all.

My father was a resident of Windsor Ward at Elizabeth Lodge in the final months of his life. My father had suffered from advanced Multiple Sclerosis and had numerous physical and mental medical issues that relates to this condition. At all times the carers and nursing staff at Elizabeth Lodge showed my father care, understanding, dignity and respect while carrying out their nursing expertise in a professional and proficient manner. All the carers, nurses, front of house staff, management, activity programmers, cooks and cleaners all worked as a unified team to try and assure that a resident's stay in Elizabeth Lodge is as enjoyable as realistically possible. My father spent three years in three other care homes who in retrospect and in truth were all style over substance and my only regret is that I was not made aware of Elizabeth Lodge sooner. I fully recommend Elizabeth Lodge to all prospectus residents and their families, it is a little gem of a nursing home.

Elizabeth Lodge is one of the best homes I have ever visited. The atmosphere is friendly, the staff are helpful (I used to visit care homes as part of my job, so I've talked to staff in dozens). I find the friendly and co-operative attitude between staff members especially encouraging as it creates an all-round positive and comfortable environment.

When there is a show on, the carers do not bring the residents down early enough.

Some permanent staff are very caring and approachable but at times some staff appear indifferent. Agency staff used at times and this can affect the quality of care which is a shame as residents quite vulnerable. My Mum has been resident since July 2017 and I do feel I have a good relationship with some staff. As a family, we do feel supported by some carers and nurses.
The quality of the food is good.
It is nice to be able to use the kitchen to make tea and there is a sense of support from other carers who have a family member in the unit.

Carpet in Hanover does smell and needs to be replaced with a laminate floor. This smell is off-putting for visitors. I am unsure why some basic toiletries like soap are not provided for residents.

Our aunt has been very well looked after at Elizabeth Lodge by all of the staff. They are always very friendly and welcoming!

I have witnessed the staff reacting to a resident falling over. They were passionate in their response and dealt with the situation very well.

When my mother entered this home we were told that the unit she would be living on was for frail people with reasonable mental capacity. During the last year, this policy seems to have changed. The unit is now full of non-communicative dementia patients or residents who spend most of the time screaming. This makes it very uncomfortable for the residents with mental capacity.
Although most of the regular care staff are very good, many agency staff are used who are not introduced to the residents causing confusion as they are often dressed more like nurses than carers. Some are not conversant in the use of the equipment, eg. when my mother wanted to get out of bed during the night to go to the toilet the two agency carers present did not know how to adjust her bed so that she could get out.

The activities team are very good and do their best to provide entertainment for those residents able to take part.

We visit on a regular basis and find the care and support our Aunt is given is very good. There is always opportunities for her to join in various activities and go on outings because of her health issues, this wouldn't be possible without the carers support.

The home is very bright and airy and nicely decorated. It always smells nice and fresh when we visit. The staff are always clean, tidy and friendly, from the first point of contact (reception) right through to activity, carers, cooks, cleaners etc.

The manageress who has just left made a lot of difference when she was here and improved the home even more.

My mother was in Elizabeth Lodge for four years. During the time she was in Tudor Unit, I was confident that she was receiving excellent care.
The staff that were looking after her were compassionate and totally dedicated to her care.
I was amazed how wonderful they were to her and my family during her last few days.

I feel nothing but sincere gratitude.

Michelle SampangJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2004

I’m a nurse by training. I obtained a nursing degree in the Philippines and qualified as a nurse in the UK. I worked in the NHS here before making the move into the care home sector. I was keen to gain experience in a different setting, where I could make a difference to older people and get to know the people I care for. I’ve been working for Care UK since 2004.

Like any home manager worth their salt, I take pride in ensuring that we’re delivering superb care to every resident of Elizabeth Lodge. I’m focused on improving all aspects of what we do here. What makes it easier is that I have such a dedicated and supportive team. I love motivating and inspiring them to fulfil their potential while achieving excellent outcomes for our residents.

Although I’ve been a home manager for some time, I still get a buzz out of the simple things – like walking around the home, greeting residents and their families, and seeing everyone enjoying time together.
