The Tudor Ware have shown real professionalism, their care and support for the elderly is wonderful. Since my mother had been moved to this ward our mother is so much happier, her care plan is so much more properly done, we as a family are so much happier. All the staff are brilliant.

Our mother moved into Elizabeth Lodge in early 2019 after a period of hospitalisation because she could no longer be adequately cared for by members of the family or by carers in her own home.
From the time that she moved in, she was cared for kindly and with respect. We never felt that her care was
lacking in any significant way. In fact, moving into Elizabeth Lodge seemed to take unseen burdens off Mum and enabled her to live the final chapter of her life very comfortably and with dignity. Her nurses and carers in Hanover were extremely kind to her and showed her real affection. One thing that we loved was that they could see past her dementia to the very intelligent woman that Mum was. Additionally, the admin team always dealt with us patiently and helpfully, always making our enquiries seem welcome. Mum passed away comfortably in her own lovely room, surrounded by people who loved her and who wanted only the best for her. We are so thankful!

My sister has only been in Elizabeth Lodge for 4 weeks. She had to move from her previous care home because she may need Oxygen which was not available there.
It took a while for her to settle as she had been in the previous home for 20 months and she was not happy to move. But the staff were great
and helped her so much. It is early days for me to properly asses everything yet.

My mother has been a resident at Elizabeth Lodge for nearly 4 years. During this time, the staff on her unit have shown her great care and respect despite her various difficulties, both physically and mentally. It is obvious from the standard of care that they give, what they do is more than a job,
it's a vocation!

My mother in law has used Elizabeth Lodge a couple of times now. The management helped me very quickly to organise a room for her. All the staff have been very helpful and caring.
The entertainments lady is exceptional, always including everyone even if they just want to watch.
Unfortunately, my
mother in law has passed away now but I will always recommend you to anyone I know who needs the facilities.
Thank you.

Elizabeth Lodge has worked very hard to help my mother settle in. They have sorted out her medication, ensuring she receives it on time.
All the staff that support my mother are very professional and friendly and make myself and my family very welcome, especially my father.

First impressions of Elizabeth Lodge put our family's mind at rest, that we had come to the right place. From the initial visit, mum's admission, the settling in period and now, day to day living has had mum at the centre of every stage. Which is why she is very content, which makes all of us very happy.

My stay rapidly changed me from introvert to somebody who appreciated the care given to me. I also came to realise the qualities of my co-residents, despite their problems being worse than mine.
I am more sociable now and return to visit my friends, who all helped me, residents and staff.

After visiting two other Care Homes I was impressed the moment I walked into Elizabeth Lodge. I liked the feel of the building as it is very light and spacious with beautiful gardens. I went on to receive full information and description of the services the home provided which was something that I had
not experienced in the previous two homes that I had visited. My Aunt, the service user who has full mental capacity dreaded arriving at Elizabeth Lodge after spending months in hospital but she received a very warm welcome by the staff and was instantly made to feel at ease. It is nearly two months since she arrived and she looks happy and contented.

The care home is not well cleaned and the garden is unkempt. Danger in garden, broken plant pots and no lock on garden gate. Issues with the cleanliness of communal areas. Diners/meals served in the corridor and staff handle food with no gloves after putting rubbish in the kitchen bin. Unused food left
uncovered in the kitchen area and fridge not very clean. Clients clothes not name tagged and end up in wrong rooms. Clothes have gone missing.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Elizabeth LodgeThank you for submitting your review. I understand that the home manager has already been in contact regarding your concerns, but please rest assured we do take any issues and feedback very seriously. In regards to the cleanliness of the home and the gardens, we have a dedicated housekeeping and maintenance team, as well as external gardeners, who work hard to keep Elizabeth Lodge clean, safe and comfortable for all. I would like to reassure you that the outside space is also secure and the garden gate you mention is between a small sensory garden from one of the suites into a larger space that is fully secure and safe – in fact, we are very proud of the large and beautiful outside space we have here which is enjoyed by residents often. As with the rest of the home, we also have a dedicated chef-led team at Elizabeth Lodge who take cleanliness and food hygiene very seriously – in fact, just last month, the home underwent its regular inspection and our food hygiene rating was rated as 5 out of 5 (very good) by Enfield Council. We do not handle or serve food wearing gloves, but of course, follow strict hygiene standards at all times. We are also very proud of the homely environment, atmosphere and space at Elizabeth Lodge. This includes the provision of both larger dining rooms on suites as well as dedicated smaller seating areas for residents that may enjoy a smaller setting – these are appropriately placed so as not to obstruct any corridors or passageways and give residents the option of dining as they wish. We also provide name tags for all resident’s clothing items – if you purchase any new items, just let the care team know and we will be happy to label these for you.

Although it is always difficult to make the decision that a care home is now the best place for a parent to live. The staff at Elizabeth Lodge sensitively and professionally supported us through this process. Fortunately, this turned out to be a temporary position for us and, again, Elizabeth Lodge
helped us to make the transition home. During our time with Elizabeth Lodge, the care and attention of the staff was constant and consistent and often rather sweet. They more than made up for Dad not being at home by providing a safe, secure and caring environment for him.

The care provided for my brother is very good. The care staff, dementia staff and catering staff are very good.
The management and office staff are helpful, friendly and efficient at all times.
The activities provided are excellent although my brother very rarely wants to take part. Although his
room is small it is adequate but would benefit from having en suite shower facilities.

Kind, patient and efficient care. Food could be better. Poor lighting in the bedroom. Not enough encouragement to participate in activities, although it must be difficult when resident is reluctant to do so. Also, although the physiotherapy finished some time ago, there has still been no opportunity
to practise exercises with staff, which should be fifteen minutes daily using the corridor bar. Sometimes it is difficult to understand liaison between care home, hospital, GP and ourselves.
Reply from Amy Wilson, AD at Elizabeth LodgeThank you very much for taking the time to review Elizabeth Lodge - we’re incredibly pleased to read your kind comments and excellent scores, particularly for the care and the team in the home. For both activities as well as food, we are very much led by residents wishes and feedback – if there’s a meal or an activity that your husband would enjoy, then of course just let us know, and we also offer one-to-one sessions as well as group activities if these would be better suited. In regards to physiotherapy, I understand the home manager has already been in touch with you and has also spoken to the home team to make sure that this takes place each day. The home manager has also informed me that more lighting has been provided, but of course, please do let us know if you have any other questions, requests or comments and we will be happy to help.

My father is treated with the utmost dignity and respect. He is happy at Elizabeth Lodge. The staff are kind and manage his health needs professionally. Our family feel that he is safe and well-cared for. We feel welcome whenever we visit him and the staff go out of their way to ensure that we are
supported with any issues which arise. Sitting with my dad in the beautiful garden drinking tea and coffee is a special treat. My mum is now also part of the Elizabeth Lodge family as she is able to come and go as she wishes to spend as much time with my dad as possible.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.641)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.641) out of 10 for Elizabeth Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.904 for Elizabeth Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (160 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.904
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.737 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elizabeth Lodge is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 87 registered maximum number of service users is 17.4. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.4 = 0.862
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2004

I’m a nurse by training. I obtained a nursing degree in the Philippines and qualified as a nurse in the UK. I worked in the NHS here before making the move into the care home sector. I was keen to gain experience in a different setting, where I could make a difference to older people and get to know the people I care for. I’ve been working for Care UK since 2004.

Like any home manager worth their salt, I take pride in ensuring that we’re delivering superb care to every resident of Elizabeth Lodge. I’m focused on improving all aspects of what we do here. What makes it easier is that I have such a dedicated and supportive team. I love motivating and inspiring them to fulfil their potential while achieving excellent outcomes for our residents.

Although I’ve been a home manager for some time, I still get a buzz out of the simple things – like walking around the home, greeting residents and their families, and seeing everyone enjoying time together.
