Franklin House care home is a welcoming setting in West Drayton delivering dementia, nursing and respite care.

The modern, purpose-built home has a relaxed atmosphere, with light and airy rooms and large, secure gardens where residents can take a stroll or even lend a hand with the gardening. The home has themed spaces that are great for residents living with dementia, including a reminiscence room, music room and sewing room. The home even has its own in-house pub and hair salon.

The friendly team enjoys getting to know each resident so they can tailor each care and lifestyle plan to the individual. All of the activities offered are based around residents' lifelong hobbies and the things they tell the team they like doing.

All the staff at Franklin House have been very friendly, helpful, sympathetic and reliable at their job. It is a hard situation to leave a loved one in the care of other people but they have made it easier to leave my dad there when he goes for respite care.

Dad spent his last 4 months at Franklin House. He was very weak and did not leave his room. Because of this he wanted to have someone to chat to, but he felt that hardly anyone on the staff had the time or the English language skills to talk to him. The permanent staff were very kind but there seemed
to be a lot of agency staff with whom Dad had no rapport.

Dad was self funding, so we spent £1000 per week on his care. I feel for this amount of money the food could have been better and maybe more tailored to his likes and dislikes. Perhaps in due course this would have happened.

On the plus side we knew he was in a place of safety and if he fell, which he did a lot, he would be picked up and put back in his chair or bed very quickly.

Reply from Jo Hesketh, Marketing Team at Franklin HouseWe take any concerns about the quality of our care very seriously and are sorry to hear about your experience at Franklin House. We have a dedicated team of activity staff at Franklin House who try and support all of our residents in participating and being involved in our activity planning, taking into account individual capabilities and choices.
We have a robust recruitment procedure in place and ensure that all our staff receive the highest standard of training to facilitate them to perform their role. All agency staff working in Franklin House undertake the same induction as Care Uk staff before commencing their shifts. The home has recently significantly reduced the agency use in the home following a successful recruitment campaign
However, we do recognise that there is still room to continue improving and remain open to further feedback that may help us identify and address any concerns. At this point, we can only apologise for not meeting your expectations, however if you do have any outstanding issues that you would like to discuss in further detail, we would welcome you making direct contact with either the manager or our regional director.

My Father was reasonably happy here in the last few weeks of his life. However my sister and I feel let down by the manager. When we first brought him in and completed all the paper work we were told that upon his death we would have 2 weeks grace to clear his room, but the manager had his discretion
if it was cleared quickly that we would not be charged for those 2 weeks. My father died on the 16th of November, we had cleared his room by lunch time on the 18th of November and we are still being charged until the end of the month. We feel we were misinformed, and this has made a difficult time even harder.

I have found the staff from the manager to be as helpful and courteous as it is possible to be. The whole atmosphere is one of a homely nature even though the building is very secure, also happiness is uppermost in my mind as I visit my friend. Of course the sad part is the reason that all the residents
are there, but it's counteracted by the fact that all is being done to make it their very own space.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.846)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.846) out of 10 for Franklin House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 45 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.846 for Franklin House is calculated as follows: ( (442 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 518 Ratings = 4.846
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Franklin House is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2001

I joined Care UK in 2001 from the teaching profession. I liked Care UK’s ethos and what the company had to offer. I’ve worked hard to get a good team around me – having a team I can trust makes my job a lot easier – and many of the residents’ relatives have been great in supporting us to get the home to where it is.

Day-to-day I love chatting to residents and listening to their stories, as well as finding out how we can make their daily lives even better.
