Only one complaint. The laundry service never gives residents their own clothes back even when has name in them, so I do it myself.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Franklin HouseThank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback. It is very unusual for items to go missing, as long as they are named, as we have a dedicated laundry service in the home. As we have already mentioned, please do let us know what clothes are still missing and we will of course do our best to locate these for you. If you have any other comments or suggestions, or anything else we can help with, please do let us know at any time.

I visit Franklin House often and have always found my mother to be very well looked after, very clean and well fed, which I know is quite difficult, given her condition. The staff are very caring and take time to interact with the patients.

On my visit, the manager told me that there was no internet connection available for my friend.
In this day and age, I find this so bad to isolate residents who are of an age to log on.
The tea was offered and put in a soup bowl (sandwiches), not a great choice.
Also a choice of a repeat dessert
from lunch after.
Not appetising at all for the sick and infirm.
Not inviting.
Bells not answered for a while.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Franklin HouseThank you for your taking the time to provide your feedback for Franklin House. We’re incredibly proud of our high standards of care, which is also reflected in our recent ‘Good’ rating from the CQC and the Five Star rating from Environmental Agency, so we were very surprised and sorry to hear your comments. Franklin House is a purpose built home and the team have worked hard to make it a fantastic place to live. It boasts many features not found at other homes which residents love and are particularly beneficial to those living with dementia, including a pub, reminiscence room and games room. Our experienced and friendly team are trained to Care UK standards, and call bells are always answered in a timely manner. To clarify, we do not have wi-fi available in the home, but, as explained, residents' rooms do all have telephone connection points from which individuals are able to arrange internet access if they wish. Another alternative is using the mobile signal and the majority of providers have good coverage at our location which can be used to browse online using a smartphone or tablet with a sim card installed. In terms of food, we offer hot meals freshly prepared in-house by our chef with a menu that reflects both the high-quality seasonal ingredients available as well as feedback from residents. We also cater for specialist dietary requirements. We make sure everyone has something to eat that they will enjoy - there is always a choice at mealtimes and we have excellent feedback from residents about the meals at Franklin House. Of course, for whatever reason, if a resident would prefer something lighter as an alternative to the menu on the day, then this is their choice and they can request a special meal from our chef, who is happy to provide alternatives such as sandwiches if this is what they would like. Thank you again for your feedback, and of course please do contact the home manager or any other members of the senior team at the home if there is anything else we can help with now or in the future.

My father was admitted to Franklin House after spending six weeks in another nursing/care home.
The staff, rooms and attention my father received were like a breath of fresh air and during the short time he was there, he improved enormously, doing things that he hasn't been able to do for a long time.
We can't thank Franklin House enough.

Mum has been a resident of Franklin House for about 3 years now. She has dementia and is in a wheelchair. In my opinion the care that my mum receives is great. The staff are so friendly and understanding in an environment that can be difficult at times. The rooms
are very comfortable. The nursing care
is excellent and I am kept informed of any problems however small. There are regular entertainment and parties. Mum loves Fish and Chip Fridays.

It was one of the hardest things in my life to move dad into a nursing home after struggling to care for him myself. The kindness, efficiency and professionalism of the staff team at F.H made me realise it was the best option for dad. What worked well was that all the staff smiled and welcomed dad and
all of his family and friends at all times. Dad was treated with warmth, sensitivity, patience and respect. It was evident that he felt safe and comfortable with all the staff and enjoyed the interaction, engagement and facilities. Thank you.

From the first day my mum became a resident of Franklin House I was impressed with the professional and helpful attitude of the team. Above all else, a really caring approach and attitude has been evident - constisently. Also, when visiting my mum there was always a warm welcome - nothing was too much
trouble. All the team at Franklin House are a credit to their caring profession.

My mother in law has been looked after very well, treated with the respect she deserves. The staff seem kind and caring - she was known to them all. From cleaning staff, carers, all the way to management. Franklin House seems to be run extremely well in my opinion - very happy that they have looked

Although this home is good and some of the staff are very good, some would be better if they could speak and communicate in English, and responses to the call buzzer could be more quickly answered.
Reply from Hannah Lee, Marketing communications manager at Franklin HouseWe’re grateful for your feedback and are delighted with the positive comments and scores for the care and support we provide. We would also like to thank you for the constructive feedback and I understand that a member of the senior team has already been in touch to discuss this with you. I would like to assure you that when we recruit team members who are not native English speakers, we test levels of English and only take on team members that pass the high levels we require. Team members should also only be communicating in English when on duty – if you have heard instances where this is not the case then of course please do let us know and we will take this further. In regards to the call bell, a team member attends immediately when this is rung. If there are concerns in any resident’s ability to use the call bell, the resident is also checked on regularly (at least every hour). Thank you for taking the time to submit these comments and of course do let us know if you have anything else you’d like to raise and we’ll be more than happy to help.

"Mum" only moved in for a few weeks before sadly passing away. Her move was due to her prior home closing. The staff at Franklin House were extremely positive and welcoming, despite her frailty and very complex medical needs on arrival, she settled in well. All our queries were answered and any minor
issues, TV signal in the room was not working and was fixed by the next visit. Very happy that mum spent her last days here, I wish she could have moved here sooner.

My mother was a resident at Franklin House for over four years and received very good care there. She passed away recently, at age 100, in Franklin House. During her last days, she received all the TLC and attention her carers could give her, especially from her wonderful main nurse.
The second floor
nurse, manager, assistant manager and activities director were very sympathetic, caring and supportive to me at this time of grief.
As the funeral procession left from Franklin house my mother was given a wonderful send-off by the staff.

When visiting my brother-in-law I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the way the patients were looked after and imaginative decoration used through the home. I was told by my sister-in-law the different celebratory times e.g Valentine's day and Easter were very colourful and beautifully done.
I always found the staff looking after brother-in-law were always very conscientious and caring, always passing time of the day with visitors and very informative no job was too much and always done with a smile I can honestly say in my opinion my brother-in-law would never have had better care and that males me very thankful.

My 1st visit to Franklin House was in Oct 2015 when I was looking for a place for my husband suffering from dementia, I had visited a few but my first impression is important, which this home was 100%, showed me round introduced me to staff even the chef. My husband settled in so well. Nursing staff
were fantastic, carers everyone, manager, assistant manager, reception area, I couldn't find fault. On the final hours and after I was so glad I had picked this home for him that his final time was with loving caring people. God Bless them.

My mum moved to Franklin House in November following a spell in hospital. It was the best thing we ever did. It is clear, bright and welcoming, staff are lovely. Sadly she died in March and the care and compassion shown to her and all our family was truly wonderful, and they continued to support our
family. Have no hesitation recommending this home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.846)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.846) out of 10 for Franklin House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 45 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.846 for Franklin House is calculated as follows: ( (442 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 518 Ratings = 4.846
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Franklin House is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2001

I joined Care UK in 2001 from the teaching profession. I liked Care UK’s ethos and what the company had to offer. I’ve worked hard to get a good team around me – having a team I can trust makes my job a lot easier – and many of the residents’ relatives have been great in supporting us to get the home to where it is.

Day-to-day I love chatting to residents and listening to their stories, as well as finding out how we can make their daily lives even better.
