My mum has been here for 3 weeks, the difference I can see in her is amazing.
The staff are so friendly and so helpful.
I go to a lot of care homes as part of my job and this has to be one of the nicest.
You can see the staff really enjoy their jobs and interact with all the residents.
It is
such a huge relief knowing Mum is cared for in this way.

My mother has been in this care home for about 7 months now. The care team has met all of her needs, and we are very satisfied with the service.
The staff also respect our religious needs and customs and try to accommodate them accordingly. Most of the care team are caring, helpful and friendly. We
would recommend Harefield Home for anyone looking for a homely place for their loved ones.

My brother has been at this care home for over a year. He is in a serious declining state. For the past three weeks, I have spent virtually all day at his bedside. His needs have been carefully considered by competent staff in what I consider to be an exemplary way. The staff has always shown respect
and kindness to him. This review applies to both nursing and management care. The home has always communicated well with me regarding medical conditions and welfare.

The home is keen to make residents comfortable and provides a good standard of care. There is a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and the carers are friendly and always willing to help when asked. A very good range of activities helps to keep residents stimulated and the staff are thoughtful.

Following the demise in my mother's health in March 2022, she was finally given a place in The Harefield Care Home. In the 14 months prior to her passing away, she was bedbound and relied totally on the staff. They were always respectful of my mother's situation and attended to her to the best of their
ability. At the end of they were very caring looking after her to the full.
I thank them all for their kindness!

My husband was moved to The Harefield after an extended period in hospital. He (we) were made welcome by all the staff who settled him in and processed to help him in all ways possible. Essentially the staff caring for him are very kind, thoughtful and friendly and take every opportunity to encourage
him with his walking practice. His dignity is maintained at all times. Additionally, all the support staff are friendly and helpful. I can visit at any time.

I have always found the home to have a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I cannot fault the staff and am confident that my husband is receiving the best care possible. This is very important when you have been together for so many years and through nobody's fault have to live separately now. It certainly
makes it easier to accept the situation knowing that he is receiving the best possible care.

My friend enjoys staying at this care home but she gets very upset because no one helps her to put on her shoes and stockings until after 11 am. She doesn't like spending all morning in her room.

We are sorry to hear about your concern and thank you for bringing it to our attention. We have been able to have a conversation with your friend and agreed on how she would like her needs met. She was able to communicate this clearly with us and we have updated her care plan.

Moving our mum to the care home was extremely difficult as it was against her wishes, but we had no choice. We were not given a choice as to where she was sent but we were very fortunate that she was sent to HC1 Harefield. Mum received excellent care from the nursing staff and absolutely amazing care
from the carers. Having mixed dementia, meant Mum was not often cooperative and this wicked illness made her aggressive. Not once did I ever hear a raised voice towards any of the residents when I visited, only ever heard the residents being spoken to respectfully. Being able to visit whenever we wanted was very reassuring. Hearing laughter and seeing the smiles helped us to come to terms with Mum not being able to stay at home. The end, when it came was very peaceful thanks to the nurses, and we were also looked after. Thank you to all the nurses and care staff.

Beautiful care home. Our mum came to The Harefield in June 2021 and was treated with nothing but love, support, dignity and respect. She loved each and every caregiver, staff and management. As a family, we were extremely happy in the knowledge that Mum was completed happy right up to her death. We
can't thank everyone for the support you have shown to us all. To everyone, thanks so much!

What an amazing care home who really care for their residents and families. The care-home manager and all her wonderful staff are absolutely amazing each and every one of them, they not only looked after our Mum but they all looked after us as a family and supported her husband tirelessly throughout.
We were extremely happy with the knowledge that our mum was safe and loved at all times. She herself was always happy living there and loved all the staff. Anyone looking for somewhere to reside for themselves or a loved one should really consider this care home! 100%

We were extremely unhappy with the level of care that this care home provided.
There is minimal staff and no one really seems to care at all!
Our mum was moved here in January and we were extremely anxious leaving her, sadly we couldn't move her as she is paralysed, can't speak or eat as she has had
major strokes.
Our mum was left naked under a sheet for 5 days even after I had expressed my concerns regarding safeguarding, my Mum was left with no dignity.
She was barely washed.
She often was left lying flat even though they knew she had COPD and can't breathe when not propped up.
I would visit her every day and have to lift her up as she would be clutching to the sides of the bed gasping for breath.
She also showed signs of a chest infection which was not picked up by the nurses and I had to make phone calls to palliative care to express my concerns - she did have a chest infection!
I would not send anyone you love here. The level of care they provide is shameful. I would leave 0 star.

I am sorry that this was how you were left feeling after your mum stayed with us for a short period of time before she was transferred. Recruitment has been a challenge for Harefield Care Home but we are focusing on recruiting the right candidates daily. We can provide assurances that we provide appropriate staffing levels as we utilise reliable, consistent agency care workers who are trained and have a full induction before working in our home. We acknowledge that there have been some lessons learnt along the way as we continue to listen to our residents/relatives and other key stakeholders to strive for improvements. The health and well-being of each individual is of primary importance, therefore, if you would like to discuss anything please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the home.

I was extremely pleased with the two female nurses that looked after my dad, whilst waiting for the doctor to arrive. He was checked and looked on to make sure he was comfortable and nothing got worse. The nurse called me to update me with the medication my dad received.

The first impression about the care home is, no one can enter the building unless they are negative from covid 19, which is very good. The care home is very clean, the staff are helpful and understanding. Contacting the care home is very easy and you get the response very quickly and with respect. Very
happy.

My father went in for respite care in May for a few months and during that time I have to say it was all a rather stressful and worrying time. Phone calls left unanswered, especially evenings. Poor communication. High staff turnover. Day staff worked very hard but always seemed to be overstretched,
tired, and stressed. Night carers were temporary agency staff, hence poor state of affairs! They didn’t seem to be bothered about the resident's well-being. Poor management. Raised issues and was assured things would be sorted but nothing changed. Call buttons left unanswered for very long periods of time and residents could be heard shouting for assistance yet no one at nurses’ desks to attend in timely manner. My dad was hardly taken out of the bed and made to sit on the chair. I asked many times only to be told they were short-staffed and didn’t have the time. All in all not a good experience at all and sadly I would not recommend this home due to the way it’s so poorly run by the owners.

Thank you for your review. We would like to apologise for the concerns with communication. We are addressing communication with the team at regular meetings and as part of the management oversight, call bell response times are monitored and discussed with the team. There has now been a management change within the home and we are working with colleagues to ensure that concerns raised are dealt with promptly. The home is continuing with recruitment and are only using agency staff as a last resort to ensure the safe running of the home.

The manager and the staff have been extremely kind, patient and helpful at all times to my husband. They have always responded very well to me (his wife) whenever I had the need to find out what was going on with my husband and updated me with his condition. The facilities offered are of a good standard.
Very accommodating with his meal requirements and preferences.

My mother-in-law was at the Harefield for about two years. During this time, communication with the home was extremely difficult. Phone calls were unanswered; messages that were left were also unanswered. The carers worked hard and did their best in difficult circumstances. They showed kindness to my
mother-in-law. Management skills however were negligible, staff turnover very high, staff who left, felt undervalued and bullied. Care Plans went unheeded especially when agency staff were brought in to cover gaps in staffing and low staffing levels. This led to unsafe practices. When management was contacted, they were unconcerned and said the points we raised were invalid. I cannot recommend this home to anyone.

Having been recommended to The Harefield Home by a close friend whose husband had stayed at the home,l I decided to go to see it. When I first visited the home, I was impressed with the appearance of it, the pleasant gardens and the surrounding countryside and outlook. I felt more secure and happy that
my husband would find the home; its staff and surroundings very pleasant and enjoyable. The manager showed me around the outside of the building and the rooms that were available. She was very pleasant and kind and told me about the home. All the staff I have met so far, have been very friendly, helpful and caring and do as much as they can to keep him comfortable, which is such a comfort to me. They have kept me well informed and given me a questionnaire regarding my husbands likes and dislikes - food etc, which I think is an excellent idea. I sincerely hope my husband will settle and be happy there, I am sure he will, especially in the summer when hopefully we can sit in the garden together.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.479)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.479) out of 10 for The Harefield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.604 for The Harefield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.604
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Harefield Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
