My father went in for respite care in May for a few months and during that time I have to say it was all a rather stressful and worrying time. Phone calls left unanswered, especially evenings. Poor communication. High staff turnover. Day staff worked very hard but always seemed to be overstretched, tired, and stressed. Night carers were temporary agency staff, hence poor state of affairs! They didn’t seem to be bothered about the resident's well-being. Poor management. Raised issues and was assured things would be sorted but nothing changed. Call buttons left unanswered for very long periods of time and residents could be heard shouting for assistance yet no one at nurses’ desks to attend in timely manner. My dad was hardly taken out of the bed and made to sit on the chair. I asked many times only to be told they were short-staffed and didn’t have the time. All in all not a good experience at all and sadly I would not recommend this home due to the way it’s so poorly run by the owners.

The manager and the staff have been extremely kind, patient and helpful at all times to my husband. They have always responded very well to me (his wife) whenever I had the need to find out what was going on with my husband and updated me with his condition. The facilities offered are of a good standard. Very accommodating with his meal requirements and preferences.

My mother-in-law was at the Harefield for about two years. During this time, communication with the home was extremely difficult. Phone calls were unanswered; messages that were left were also unanswered. The carers worked hard and did their best in difficult circumstances. They showed kindness to my mother-in-law. Management skills however were negligible, staff turnover very high, staff who left, felt undervalued and bullied. Care Plans went unheeded especially when agency staff were brought in to cover gaps in staffing and low staffing levels. This led to unsafe practices. When management was contacted, they were unconcerned and said the points we raised were invalid. I cannot recommend this home to anyone.

Having been recommended to The Harefield Home by a close friend whose husband had stayed at the home,l I decided to go to see it. When I first visited the home, I was impressed with the appearance of it, the pleasant gardens and the surrounding countryside and outlook. I felt more secure and happy that my husband would find the home; its staff and surroundings very pleasant and enjoyable. The manager showed me around the outside of the building and the rooms that were available. She was very pleasant and kind and told me about the home. All the staff I have met so far, have been very friendly, helpful and caring and do as much as they can to keep him comfortable, which is such a comfort to me. They have kept me well informed and given me a questionnaire regarding my husbands likes and dislikes - food etc, which I think is an excellent idea. I sincerely hope my husband will settle and be happy there, I am sure he will, especially in the summer when hopefully we can sit in the garden together.

My mother is currently here and has received first-class care. The staff are very good and absolutely care for their residents very much. They spend time with Mum, and her room has all her personal things to hand.

The staff at the care home were very attentive to my mum, looking after her every need. If she didn’t fancy what was on the menu, they were only too happy to whip up an omelette for her, which she said were fantastic, some of the best she’d ever had. She struck up friendships with some of the nursing staff, in particular, and looked forward to them popping in. The room was comfortable, it’s just a pity my Mum was there in the wintertime, so didn’t get the full value of the view out of the window. Any queries to the home were answered promptly by the management, who were always helpful.

My review was based mainly on window home visits and telephone communication with care staff due to Covid-19 pandemic. From the moment I spoke with the home manager when I was informed of my husband's transfer to the home, I felt it was the right one as she was very welcoming. I window visited often and chatted to my husband with the staff around to help him. Dedicated and obviously caring team with strong and effective leadership. While it was not possible to provide the highly tailored care that one would expect from one's own family with the pandemic, the staff in The Harefield Care Home made every effort to accommodate his particular needs. Many aspects from the daily activities through to the empathy and genuine warmth show to my husband and family by the carers, nurses and other helpers.

Our dad came to this home following difficulties at his house, his needs went past family/carers care. As soon as he arrived at The Harefield Care Home he became better, happier and began talking again, his depression eased massively. All the staff cared beautifully for him, they all went the extra mile. He called it "home" we couldn't ask for more. Thank you so much.

A nice sized home. Rooms are a decent size and you can put pictures up on the walls which is really good - as it makes it feel more homely. (Some homes don't allow this). Also you can bring any other ornaments or anything to make the room your own space.

The staff are very helpful and really take good care of the residents, which is the most important thing. I am very happy my dad is here and have peace of mind that he is safe and well looked after.

We can't thank The Harefield Care Home enough for the care that our Mum received, the staff were always cheerful and very caring. We were always welcome as visitors, Mum's room was attractive and comfortable. Mum had access to a wonderful GP who kept us informed. The food was excellent and Mum was sensitively encouraged to eat and drink which must have been time-consuming for the staff but they were always patient and kind. Even in these difficult times, Mum was always clean and comfortable. We have no hesitation in recommending The Harefield to anyone and would use it again should the need occur.

We have been delighted with the care my mother received during the 18-months she has been resident at The Harefield. The staff are truly caring, and my mother was so well looked after. The meals are very good, and the staff were always welcoming to us.
Unfortunately, Mum has now passed away from natural causes, and even during these most difficult times, there was someone with her all night.

The staff have been truly wonderful, and we are so grateful.

I only visited my friend, who was a resident, once in his short stay at the home, but it was a very peaceful and serene place. My friend sadly passed away 10 days ago. When I visited, the staff that I had the pleasure of meeting were very respectful and extremely caring. My friend was sleeping in his very lovely, clean room when I went to see him and I was happy to sit with him watching the bunnies outside.

It's all about the qualities of the staff. Everyone from the manager through to the nurses, carers and ancillary staff was lovely and caring. I was impressed that not just the nurses and carers engaged with residents. But so too did the cleaners and kitchen staff. My friend had the most peaceful time he'd had in a long time while in The Harefield Care Home.
