Having had the devastating news about my father’s terminal illness, it was clear he was going to need specialist palliative care in the final stages of his life. All local care home managers we spoke with were brilliant - very helpful and very informative. We finally chose Cloisters Care Home where
their team gave us a considerable amount of confidence about all aspects of his care. My father was at Cloisters for around ten weeks before he sadly passed away. He built a strong bond with all his carers and was provided with high levels of care, including emotional support. We were able to visit him frequently, all within Covid guidelines, allowing all of us, including his grandchildren, to spend precious time with him. The team at Cloisters gave my father something he always wanted to maintain – and that was his dignity. Even during the final moments after his passing, the level of professionalism and care shown by the team was incredible. We will be eternally grateful to everyone at Cloisters.

The minute you walk through the door and are met by the manager and her team the caring shows. My ex-husband went to Cloisters Care Home for palliative care. This was during the difficult time of Covid and lockdown. It was a hard time for everyone, staff, patients and families. The nursing staff were
brilliant and made sure he got all the care needed. They helped him through all his little meltdowns with a smile on their face. We could phone anytime during the day or evening for updates and we were allowed to speak with him on the phone.
When lockdown eased they made sure we got to visit him as often as was allowed. It was all well organised with rapid Covid tests before entering.
When the sad time came to say goodbye to him, he and the family were all treated really well and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Even after he had passed the support from the manager and her team was really great.
Thank you for making his last few months more bearable for him.
Reply from David Martins, National Sales Manager at Cloisters Care Home

This is a happy and cheerfully run home. Welcoming, clean and fresh admission. Care staff are all very kind under the excellent manager who cares deeply for all her staff and residents. Food not always of the taste of my friend, who despite being the age of 97 is a very good cook herself. Need to be
served a little hotter than tepid/warm. She is not a complainer. Customer care for paying residents needs more application. Thank you to everyone who has helped her stay to be a comfortable one.

My mum has been in the home since last August and we as family were very pleased with the care and support my mum received in the home.
My mum was given choice of any meals she requires by the kitchen staff.
The staff were very friendly and made my mum comfortable in the home.
As she could understand
a little English the home had Asian carers who could communicate with my mum.
All her needs were met in this home.
Me and my family were welcome by the staff who were very friendly and could visit whenever.
During the lockdown we were able to see my mum with distance in the garden which was lovely for my mum.
Thank you for the care and support for my mum, from her son and daughters.

The lockdown has been and continues to make visiting loved ones difficult. However, Cloisters has kept up its high standard throughout and during July I have seen everyone going above and beyond to ensure everyone that is able gets to see relatives as often as possible. Garden visits and walks around
the grounds everyone is happy and enjoys their day. Birthdays are celebrated and staff love to join in with everyone. We are very lucky for mum to be so loved.

My mum has been in Cloisters for 6 months now and I am very happy with the care she has received. She is looked after very well by all the team and is settling in well. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and always take time to talk to me if I have anything I wish to discuss. The activities
are great and I have enjoyed taking part in family events.

My mother has been at Cloisters for several months now and we have visited very regularly. From the very first phone call and visit right through to the point of submitting this review, I have been extremely pleased with her care. She is treated well, with warmth and dignity. She isn't a big eater and
has difficulties around food but staff do their best to understand her preferences, offer her alternatives and encourage her to eat and drink. They are diligent, proactive and genuinely caring. As other reviewers have said, all the staff, those behind the scenes and those we see regularly including the carers, nurses and management, do a difficult job brilliantly. Thank you, everyone, at Cloisters for the biggest gift - peace of mind about the care of a very vulnerable loved one. Thank you.

My wife has been in care here for 17 months and I can say that I cannot find fault with anything. The nurses and carers are really good and will attend to any issues I have immediately and in a caring and dignified way.
The office staff keep families up to date on any changes of staff or amenities.
I
cannot fault them.

Cloisters Care Home is extremely well run, they only employ staff who consistently take pride in their work (being very thorough and professional) and are extremely emphatic, patient and caring with residents. I have to say that all and I really do mean all the staff I have seen/know always seem to
have a cheerful disposition and are very keen to keep the residents happy, they clearly continually do their best for them throughout the day and night. Cloisters is an absolute pleasure to visit regularly at it has been beautifully decorated throughout is always kept lovely, clean and fresh and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

My mother-in-law was made to feel very welcome when she moved in November of 2014. Her room was small but we agreed to take it as we did not want her staying in her room during the day. She got involved in daily activities and mixed with other residents and made friends. She always looked nice and clean,
well looked after until she passed peacefully away.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (7.979)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (7.979) out of 10 for Cloisters Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.048 for Cloisters Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.048
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.931 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cloisters Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.431
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
