In April 2019 following many falls at her home of 60 years, my dear mum reluctantly went into Kestrel Grove as a resident.
This was obviously a difficult time for my mum, myself and my sisters.
The staff with their care and dedication gradually helped Mum become more at ease.
There were always
activities taking place throughout the week that Mum could take part in if she chose to do so.
Obviously, the pandemic was a very difficult time for all of us, but we were kept updated and allowed to visit as soon as it was possible.
Mum sadly passed away in February 2022 and the care and compassion that they gave to Mum and her family made this very difficult time a little bit more bearable.
I would not hesitate in recommending Kestrel Grove to others.
Reply from Paul Tripp, Owner at Kestrel Grove Care HomeDear Sheila

Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure looking after Mum and am glad that your experience made life for you and your sisters easier.

The care our mother received was exemplary. All the staff, without exception, are caring and compassionate. When we visited our mother the staff always made us feel extremely welcome and were very happy to answer any questions we had regarding Mum and her care. The nursing care Mum received from the
home was also excellent. The staff were able to promote the healing of her infected leg ulcers which had been weeping badly for months due to her chronic heart disease. Subsequently, she was able to have all the bandages removed from her legs for the first time in over a year.
When she was able, Mum enjoyed being wheeled around a very large, well-kept garden, which for her was one of the main reasons for deciding to live there. In the period when her health sadly deteriorated and she passed, in June 2022, the staff were so compassionate towards her and thoughtful of the family. We can't thank the staff enough and would have no hesitation in recommending Kestrel Grove.

After being admitted to hospital the family were determined to get dad the care he deserved at 97 and being a POW at the hands of the Japanese for 3 years. After researching and talking to a few homes in the area, the manager visited dad in hospital and for the next 4 years, 4 months Kestrel was our
second home. The care dad received at Kestrel was second to none, the owner and managers have great admiration from the family in their dedication and direction they give to the team to carry out their duties so well. The past 19 months have been incredibly difficult for us all and even more so for care homes, Kestrel did everything they could to keep dad safe from Covid, however, Dad not able to see his family for long periods eventually took its toll and from Christmas 2020 we could see a slow deterioration in him until he sadly passed in July 2021. We owe a great deal to you guys for your professionalism and care for dad.
Reply from Monika Gilice, Manager at Kestrel Grove Care HomeThank you so much for the lovely comments. We loved him so much and miss him dearly. He was a true gentleman with a lovely smile on his face. We miss seeing you as a family too and wish you all well. Regards from all of us at Kestrel Grove.

This care home is the absolute best and I cannot praise it enough. The staff are extremely attentive and caring - from the kitchen staff who prepared foods that my father requested, to the lovely cleaners and fabulous carers, attentive nursing staff and the owner. As my father's relative, I was similarly
treated with courtesy and respect and the staff always offered us refreshments (free of charge) and had time to discuss my father's ailments and his condition, generally. We felt their love and support at all times. Nothing was too much bother and I would not hesitate to recommend this nursing and residential home. My father was here for 18 months and it became his home.

I cannot rate this home highly enough. The manager and his amazing staff genuinely 'cared' for my father in every aspect of his life - the love and respect his carers had for him was absolutely genuine. Indeed three of his carers came to my father's funeral in their own free time, which says it all.
The support that I too received from the staff was second to none when my father sadly passed away. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and that encompasses not just my father, but his frequent rostrum of visitors as well. All of the staff, from the cleaners and kitchen staff to the nurses and senior managers, always had a lovely smile and were full of bounce and good cheer. In an era where there is so much publicity about the abuse of the elderly, I cannot find the words to recommend this home highly enough. Who knows - when the time comes for myself, I would not hesitate to book myself in.

The care and loving attention that was given to my Mum was second to none. She was made to feel part of an amazing family that is Kestrel Grove Nursing Home. She was treated with dignity and love right to the end of the three and a half years of her residency.
The Home is run so wonderfully. It is
spotlessly clean and the food is amazing.
My great grandmother resided there in the 1970s, my aunt in the 2000s and my Mum in the 2010's. The same family has been running the Nursing Home throughout and I cannot thank them enough. They do an amazing job.

I cannot praise the staff and management of Kestrel Grove enough for all they did for my mother in the last few weeks of her life, having moved to the home from hospital suffering with terminal cancer.

Although my mother was there for only a short time, all the staff seemed to get to know her and

check in on her constantly. As my mother's condition was terminal I was also given exceptional help and support in dealing with the finality of the situation.

All my family took great comfort in knowing we had managed to secure a place for my mother in a home that cared so much for all its residents.

Both my grandparents resided at Kestrel Grove for four years, they were looked after with the utmost care and love - the care team are amazing and became part of our family, sadly we lost my Grandpa in 2017 and later on in October 2018 my Grandma passes too, but both of them were cared for till the
end. I highly recommend Kestrel Grove - The owner is one of the most compassionate people I’ve had the pleasure to meet.

Both my father and I were extremely happy with the care all the staff gave my mother. They not only cared for mummy but also gave the extended family extremely good care and respect.
Nothing was too much for them while my mother was there. The attention and support all the staff gave all of our family
during mummy’s last few weeks was astounding. We can not thank them enough and would certainly recommend them.

I was recommended to this care home 3 years ago for my mother who is now 99 years old. I cannot praise the management and staff more highly as they have been a pleasure to deal with for the last 3 years and have provided exemplary service. The welcome given to her was brilliant. The food is good and
they take her out often, which isn't easy as she is partially blind and deaf and has Oxygen. Having been to other homes, I consider ourselves lucky!

This is a second member of the family to have lived here. Many care homes do not possess a family atmosphere and have a clinical unpleasant smell. Kestrel Grove has a warm, caring feeling. We have got to know management and long-term staff well over years. They try to occupy residents as much as possible.
If they decide to take part and there are also occasional outings for those who are able to participate. The home is well run and has been run by the same family for many years. It has a calm atmosphere.

In the year that our daughter has been resident, we can attest to the extremely high quality of care and attention that she has received. She has been treated with dignity and humour by the staff and has developed a rapport with them all. Hospital attendances have been organised with the minimum of
fuss and her special dietary requirements have been supervised with care. Her medical needs are dealt with carefully and professionally.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.446)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.446) out of 10 for Kestrel Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.662 for Kestrel Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.662
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.784 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kestrel Grove Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.2 = 0.984
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am the Home Manager at Kestrel Grove Care Home, and I consider it a privilege to lead a team dedicated to delivering exceptional, person-centred care. My career in healthcare spans most of my adult life, beginning as a registered general nurse in surgical and community settings before progressing into residential and nursing home management. Over more than a decade working within the care home sector, I have come to regard it as the most meaningful and rewarding environment in which a healthcare professional can serve—where clinical skill, human connection, and compassionate leadership converge every day.

I am deeply passionate about enriching the lives of every resident at Kestrel Grove. To me, outstanding care goes far beyond meeting physical needs; it means honouring each individual’s identity, history, and preferences, and creating a home where people feel genuinely safe, valued, and understood. I believe that a positive culture—built on respect, dignity, transparency, and kindness—is essential to achieving this.

My vision for Kestrel Grove is one of continuous improvement and collective pride. I am committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance and CQC compliance, fostering a skilled and stable workforce, and strengthening a vibrant, inclusive community where residents can thrive. Through reflective practice, strong communication, and compassionate leadership, I strive to ensure that every person in our care receives not just good care but truly exceptional care.
