Having recently undergone an impressive £4 million refurbishment, Rowanweald looks as wonderful as it feels. But it’s the team, which includes highly skilled nurses, which make this home feel really special.

The team are dedicated to enriching the lives of their residents and their loved ones, who are embraced into life in the home and are welcome to visit at any time. They are passionate about residents having an active role to play in how their home is run and most importantly – having choice.

The home’s resident ambassador is proud of his role and does everything from welcoming new residents to the home and providing feedback to the team, to creating a special spot in the garden for his fellow residents.

There is always so much going on at the home, from gentle exercise sessions and arts and crafts, to gardening and music.

As part of not-for-profit Sanctuary Care’s extensive investment into the home, Rowanweald has a beautifully refurbished hair salon for weekly appointments with a mobile hairdresser. There is also a new café area, which is lovely spot to relax with loved ones.

The residents enjoy home-cooked food prepared by the chef in the dining rooms, with freshly baked biscuits and cakes for afternoon tea. And there are welcoming lounges to relax and enjoy activities.

In the centre of the home is an enclosed courtyard garden, with raised flower beds and seating, plus there is another side garden.

Situated close to a country park, Rowanweald overlooks the High Street of Harrow Weald and has ample parking.

My mum going into a care home was a very stressful situation with lots of unknowns and worry about what this meant for her and us. The whole team here were always very friendly, understanding and empathetic and as helpful as possible to all family members. My mum was respected, cared for and well looked
after at all times. I would like to highlight that some members of the team I have nothing but praise for but there was one member who was exceptional and I can't really express my gratitude to her for the kindness and care she showed. My mum managed to return home and this process meant more interactions and help required, but she explained everything thoroughly and personably and made sure this went as smoothly as possible. The one trait I would like to shine a light on is empathy here and we will be grateful forever. Thank you.

My father is very well cared for by the staff at Rowanweald. Standards are high and all members of the team are friendly and welcoming. It has been difficult for all during lockdown but the team have done their best to keep us in touch with our loved ones. The manager keeps us informed of what is happening
and always invites our input.

Manager and under manager are brilliant, I've been through a really rough time and they are so kind and supportive. The care he is receiving is second to none and all the staff especially nurses and key workers in taking care of him which is no mean feat, I am very grateful for the way it's gone keeping
everyone safe. Thank you so much to them all.

My mother went into the care home in October 2019 and I am so pleased she is there. It is a wonderful place and the staff are so kind and caring. I have managed to visit through parts of the pandemic and they keep us regularly up to date. She has a lovely room and the food is very good. We are kept
up to date with everything and are often asked if there is anything we would particularly like to focus on concerning her health. I have told many people about the care home and would really recommend it to others.

From when my mother entered Rowanweald in August 2020 until she passed away in January 2021, she was treated with kindness and respect by all the staff. Although she was nursed in bed for the most part, many of the staff took time to talk with her and listen to her stories and also asked me about her
life. While updates about her health were necessary, it was equally important to know about her state of mind. Being able to visit in the last days of her life meant a lot. Regular informative emails were sent by the manager.
Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words and feedback. We are very sorry to hear of the passing of your mother - I am sure she will be missed by the whole team.

I continue to praise the home for the wonderful care my mother is receiving and the support relatives are getting at these difficult times. It’s hard not being able to visit more than we can but understand the reason why. This is made easier knowing my mum is getting wonderful care, support and company.
I can’t thank them enough.

Dad was already in a Sanctuary Residential Home but fell and broke his hip last Christmas while in my care at my home. Following a spell in hospital, he transferred to Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home and over time, although very frail, has recovered fantastically well. This improvement is no
doubt down to the wonderful care given to him by the staff from top to bottom at the Home. My dad is happy and comfortable, receiving the attention deserved.
A special note of thanks must go to the leadership team at Rowanweald who run a very happy, caring and efficient team.
I am aware a complete refurbishment was started just before Dad moved into the home. Unfortunately, this halted when the first COVID-19 'Lockdown' began. It is hoped the work will restart soon. I am sure the 'Cleanliness' and 'Rooms' grading will then rise.
Overall, I must again commend all the staff for the care they provide for Dad - Thank you so much. I would have no hesitation recommending Sanctuary to others.
Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home - it is reassuring to hear that Dad is doing well and has improved since being with us at Rowanweald. Best wishes, Fae.

My wife came to Rowanweald in November 2019 as she has many needs, including dementia, and requires a lot of physical assistance. I have found all members of staff at Rowanweald to be extremely helpful and very kind to my wife. I was worried about leaving my wife in a care home, but honestly feel she
is being well cared for in the best place for her.

I could not be happier with the care that Dad is receiving. Everyone I have met at Rowanweald has been caring, thoughtful and responsive – the team are simply the best. I live some distance away and I am given peace of mind knowing that someone is caring for Dad and always looking out for him. At 98-years-old
plus Dad has even got used to using FaceTime thanks to Rowanweald. In these difficult times, Rowanweald has clearly and consistently kept me up to date with everything, and I feel confident that they are truly professional in everything they do.

Everyone at Rowanweald provides an incredible service and genuinely cares. They go the extra mile in all aspects of their job - and that has been especially so during the Coronavirus pandemic. Although they had to halt personal visits for a time, they adapted, offering video calls and that alike. All
the staff are incredibly friendly, as well as good at their job. They form real relationships with the residents and their relatives, and it's always a pleasure to visit.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.390)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.390) out of 10 for Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.779 for Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.779
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.611 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.8 = 0.811
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
