We were told that my father had terminal cancer, a short prognosis and needed 24/7 care so we looked for a care home in the Purley area. My dad was treated so well at Westside - from the very first day. He enjoyed all the activities (bingo, 60’s music karaoke, chair aerobics, quizzes) and was looked after so well. Everyone at the home from the cooks, cleaners, carers, nurses and management treated my dad with respect and care. Towards the end of his life, Westside liaised with St Christopher’s hospice so that his pain management was regularly assessed and controlled. We seriously could not have wished for a better experience. The staff are caring and go above and beyond in looking after the residents. For my dad’s last birthday, we were able to use the dining area and the chef made a huge (very tasty) cake. The staff also decorated the room with balloons and full tableware. It was just so sweet. If you are considering a place for a relative I would recommend - 10/10.

Thank you for such kind words. It was a pleasure to be able to provide a comforting place of care for your father at the end of his life, and it always reassures our care offering at Westside to hear such lovely feedback from relatives, especially during an emotional time.

My mum had advanced dementia and needed full-time care. She could do very little for herself she couldn’t even brush her hair anymore. I’d looked after her in my house and provided all her care from the outset of Covid in March 2020. Mum was extremely reluctant to leave me at all. Westside was the only place that allowed her to gradually extend her periods of respite from a week initially building up by a day at a time reaching 17 days maximum respite stay over a 15-month period from November 2021. This respite I could trust enabled me to continue caring. After caring for mum alone for three years and 9 months mum moved into Westside for the last 9 months of her life in 2023, she was cared for kindly and with dignity, the nursing staff involved me at every step as her condition gradually progressed. She was with them to the end and the staff were always kind mindful and alert to her needs.

I cannot praise the staff enough. My mum was in the home for 3 months before she passed away. The staff treated her like she was their own mother. The food was amazing, the place was always clean and tidy. They could not have done enough to make sure my mum was looked after and was treated with the utmost respect, and as mum started to have problems eating they made sure she had food she could eat. They always kept us informed on how our mum was and how she was doing. I can say I would highly recommend this home.

My father resided at the Westside Care Home for approximately four months, and although he was seriously ill, the staff could not have been more compassionate, caring and supportive. My family and I are so grateful to all the staff for making my father feel so comfortable, and would highly recommend this home to anybody else.

We needed to find medical care for our dad after our mum sadly passed away. Dad had complex medical needs and both the nursing and regular care was outstanding. The staff are very friendly and genuine in their care for the residents and this really helped our dad during his time of grieving andlife adjustment. The chef was amazing in providing food that Dad could eat, which greatly helped him regain weight (after a hospital stay). We were impressed with the professional management of the home and appreciated their encouragement of family visits. We would highly recommend this care home.

My mother was struggling to look after herself in her own home, so as a family we decided that she would be better off in a residential care home. We visited Westside and were impressed so that was what we chose for her. Best decision ever. We know she is safe, well cared for and can spend her last years in comfort. There is a doctor on call, nursing staff to attend to minor complaints and very good food. It's everything she could want. The manager is very approachable and the admin staff are very friendly. Everybody knows everybody, it's refreshing.

Mum lived with my husband and me for nearly five years and the decision to put her in a care home was one I'd hoped we'd never have to make. However, everyone at Westside Care Home was so welcoming, kind, caring and friendly. Nothing was too much for them and it didn't take long for Mum to settle in. They made me feel welcome and have been very supportive. Their care has been second to none. Thank you all.

It's never an easy decision choosing a care home but if there is any home I would pick it would be Westside. We have peace of mind knowing our mum is in good caring empathetic hands. All the staff know mum and are so friendly and open. It is the perfect size for mum small and intimate. She is a valued resident. Westside has the best food, is clean and its management team are always available.

Lovely care home, clean and with caring staff. Dad settled in very quickly. He has lots of entertainment - musicians, singers, miniature shetland ponies and exercise classes. The food is very good and he even had a birthday cake made for him on his 93rd birthday. The nurses are very empathetic and nothing is any trouble. I feel very happy with the care and I feel relief that he is getting everything that he needs.

After visiting several homes to accommodate my parents (in their 90s), we knew that Westside was the home for them as soon as we walked in. There was a very friendly and caring atmosphere and the residents all looked happy. When they arrived after a substantial journey in an ambulance, they had hot food waiting for them and us and made every effort to welcome them. Sadly my father only lasted for just under 4 weeks until he passed, but the staff went the extra mile to see that he was as comfortable as possible and were on hand to comfort my mother at that sad time. Also calling us so that we could be there. Mum is still there and is very happy with the way she is looked after.

When the time came for my mum to leave her home and go into a nursing home, Westside was recommended by our GP. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew that it was the right place for her. She has settled so well and this is due to the very high level of care that she receives. The staff could not be more friendly and sensitive to her needs. Mum's room is always clean and cosy and she has lots of her own treasures, ornaments and pictures to make it feel like her own place. Her health can change from day to day. The staff team are an exceptional group of kind and dedicated people who will do their utmost to meet her needs, physically, mentally and emotionally, nothing is too much trouble. Sometimes just a little chat, a bunch of flowers picked from the garden or the chef coming to her room and asking if he can make her something special for tea, can make all the difference to her day. There is always a warm welcome at Westside. It is truly an outstanding home.

My mother was admitted for palliative care in January 2021 and we were extremely nervous and worried about Mum going into a Care Home. Our fears were allayed immediately, as Mum and I were warmly welcomed and put at ease. All the staff showed much compassion and warmth and wanted to know everything about Mum and her needs/dislikes and her personal history/background. Mum has many difficulties and issues but the staff were so patient and caring throughout and still provide the best care possible, that we could hope for.

The staff at Westside Care Home, made our mum/nan feel so welcome. Their personalised approach and attention to detail, helped us feel confident we had picked the right place. Everyone is very caring and keeps us well informed and included in our mum's/nan's ongoing care. Westside is very homely with a lovely clean environment, great food and a good range of activities. Everyone at Westside works hard to know their residents and families and cares for them well.

Faced with the difficult decision to move our dearly loved mother to a care home to provide the special care and assistance she now needs has been extremely emotional and stressful. We knew this would be challenging as being with the family is all my mum has ever known. The pandemic meant we weren’t able to view any care homes, but after reading so many great reviews, we opted for Westside and are so glad that we did, as we couldn’t agree more. When my mum moved in, all our fears and reservations were immediately allayed. We were so relieved and happy to be greeted by such caring, friendly staff and carers, who made us feel so welcome. My mum took a while to settle into her new home, as expected, but the warmth, dedication and kindness shown to our mum and family has been excellent. This helped and reassured both me and my sister to get through those very difficult early days. Thanks to an amazing team and to each one of you for the fantastic job you all do.

My aunt has been a resident at Westside for just over a year, the majority of which has been in lockdown. Lockdown restrictions have obviously raised a number of issues with regards to keeping in contact, but thanks to the ingenuity of the staff and the wonders of video conferencing technology, the virtual visits I have with my aunt, have been better than meeting physically. They also save me an 150-mile round trip. Because of the deafness of us both, face to face meetings even prior to lockdown, were not easy. Masked up and either side of an enormous perspex screen, meant that visits during lockdown, were even harder work. Now, with the help of the staff, we speak together every week via video conferencing, using a tablet and conventional earpieces with a built-in microphone. Now we can see each other unmasked and hear each other loud and clear. This new normal has revolutionised our times together and raised the spirits of us both. Thank you Westside.

After viewing 9 local Nursing Homes for my dear auntie, I couldn't believe my luck when I came across Westside Nursing Home. Instantly I felt warmth and kindness and a very homely feel. My auntie was a resident for 2 and 1/2 years, and the care she got was above and beyond. She was lucky to have a family who visited her often, and the staff always made us feel so welcome, we too, became part of Westside. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and I could not thank them enough for treating my amazing auntie with such dignity, love and care. People forget how hard it can be for the staff at all levels when residents are unwell, and with my auntie having Dementia, there would be good days and sad days. Even the chefs would go above and beyond, even the housekeepers would always pop their heads in to say Hi. I honestly cannot express my love and thanks to all the staff at Westside. Sadly, my auntie passed away in July, and I was fortunate to be there till the end. The staff on duty that day were amazing. Thank you.

We were so lucky to come across Westside Nursing Home for my mum’s end of life care. The Manager from the off was so helpful and efficient in arranging all the necessary steps. From the moment mum arrived, the staff could not do enough for her and us as a family. They went above and beyond with their care and dedication to looking after my mum but also making sure that we were also well looked after. I can honestly say the nursing staff are truly some of the most caring, dedicated and compassionate human beings I have had the pleasure to deal with. Every step of the way we were made to feel at home, spoilt with tea, comforted and always kept up to date with what was happening. Over the twelve weeks or so we spent there with mum, we became very fond of the nursing staff and management. I would like to send my utmost gratitude to all you ladies (you know who you are) who were with my sister and me through the toughest of times. We will remember you with fondness always.

We were very fortunate to be able to move Mum to Westside for her end of life care following a lengthy stay on a hospital medical ward. Westside wasn't the glossiest home we visited, but it offered everything we wanted for Mum in her final days. We promised Mum she would have own comfortable room and privacy - Westside delivered this alongside the best care we could ever have hoped for. The staff were professional and caring for Mum and also for me and my brother and sisters. They were respectful, attentive and kind and provided Mum a secure and dignified end to her life. My family was supported and cared for too and we were able to be with Mum 24/7 as she slowly faded. We are very grateful that we moved Mum to Westside - we are confident that we did the best for our much loved Mum in her final days and cannot thank the manager and her team enough for their dedication and superb provision of care.
