Our mum was a resident at Whitgift House for the last five months of her life.
We found all the staff to be very friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. The care and support they offered to us, as a family, was amazing.
The dedication and compassion of all the staff were very much appreciated by Mum, Dad, my sister and myself.

Your staff are outstanding and our family are eternally grateful for making our vulnerable mum feel comfortable and at home during her short time at Whitgift House.

My aunt has been a resident of Whitgift House for several years. She is well looked after and cared for. The facilities are very good and her needs are catered for. The staff and all the team are very friendly and approachable and I am kept well-informed of any changes in her condition. I would recommend Whitgift House to anyone needing care.

Mum is treated as one of the family. The staff seem to genuinely care about the residents. Stable staffing even through the pandemic gives me peace of mind that mum is well known and that as her family we are also well known to staff. During covid, the management have worked hard to ensure that meaningful visits started as soon as possible and they have been flexible in accommodating the needs of our family. The small size and the fact that it is part of a charitable foundation mean that none of the corporate profit-making motives stand in the way of good quality care. I feel the staff are well looked after and of course, that translates into better care for residents. Mum is 95 years old and has been at Whitgift House for nearly 3 years now.

Whitgift House is undergoing a management reshuffle. We now have more 'generals' than 'privates' in our care 'army'. Many outstanding care workers have been made redundant but well treated with legally required redundancy pay. Still, they are much missed. We no longer have a Matron, who was a key figure. I understand there have been no changes in full care.

Our experience has been very positive overall. The accommodation is a good standard. As self supporting residents we do feel that there is a greater need for consultation and communication and hope that the new scheme manager (to be appointed) will help facilitate this.

The carers are most solicitous and helpful. Lack of community facilities and guest flats disappointing.

My husband was a resident at Whitgift House for over four years. At all times, he was kindly and efficiently cared for. He regarded his carers and nurses as friends and he was always treated with respect.

I have lived in Whitgift House for over five years. In recent months, activities have been greatly restricted but were previously good. The staff provide intellectual stimulation through a fortnightly fun pack. Meals, if booked, are delivered daily and are pretty varied. Shopping used to be done but is not now. Whitgift House is the gold standard for care.

My partner always seems content to go to Whitgift day care. The staff I have met are always cheerful and competent with the entertainment they provide. I myself thank them all for giving me a respite day knowing that he is in a safe and friendly environment.

Overall Experience
My friend had been very ill and had undergone major surgery when admitted. She was 88 and no longer able to manage alone. She has been a resident at Whitgift House for 5 years now and is fit and well and has as much independence as she needs.

She is on friendly terms with all staff and participates in activities. She still goes out for visits, shopping and meals, accompanied by a friend or relative and has all her faculties. She does find it frustrating that few of the other residents do not so having a rational conversation is difficult. But she makes the most of her situation and is in the main, contented. This in itself is a tribute to the care at Whitgift House.

I have been here four years and get on so well with all the staff. If I ring for help someone comes very quickly for which I'm very grateful. The deafness and dementia is awful, so conversation is difficult at times. I do object to being treated like a child, and hate being told 'well done'.

Husband attends the daycare centre 3 days a week. He has made friends and looks forward to his sessions at Whitgift House. The staff are delightful, very happy, caring and positive at all times. Excellent menus and my husband enjoys all his meals. The standard of activities is excellent with a great variety. My husband is sociable and loves attending the sessions as I feel it encourages him to think positively. The daycare centre gives me peace of mind, knowing he is well cared for at all times.

My relative has been in residence for a number of years and has been looked after above and beyond the required standard, in fact, it is clearly a labour of love and a vocation for the excellent staff. The attention to detail and the overall package of care is simply wonderful. I could not recommend Whitgift House more strongly.

Since moving into sheltered housing in 1997 there have been significant changes at Whitgift House. It is difficult to evaluate the effect this has had in general terms. Two new blocks of flats have been built providing more accommodation for elderly people and the community room has been extended to make more space for the 'Day Care' people who now share some of the facilities. Matron and care services manager always helpful and usually available.

I cannot praise Whitgift House day centre highly enough. My wife, who has dementia, cannot wait to get there on the two days a week that she attends. Her eyes light up and a big, big smile comes across her face when she knows she will be going to Whitgift on that particular day. The staff couldn't be more caring. The facilities are superb and the day centre is run like the proverbial well-oiled machine. Eleven out of ten to one and all.

My husband really enjoys attending the day centre at Whitgift House. The staff are fantastic; welcoming and very friendly. They attend to the residents with care and kindness, making sure they are comfortable and happy. The centre itself is clean, bright and warm with a warm atmosphere to boot. There are always numerous activities available to the attendees, and coffee and tea whenever wanted. I would thoroughly recommend Whitgift House to anyone wanting to attend. The staff are angels.
