Very caring with excellent staff taking care of my families needs.
Since they have opened the daycare service, all activities etc are centred around daycare and the nursing care residents have been neglected. Despite all of this, fees have once again gone up which to my mind is not warranted because the focus is not on nursing residents anymore but the daycare service.
My husband attends the 1596 Day Club two days a week. As he is wheelchair-bound and has aphasia/dysphasia and cannot communicate he really enjoys the opportunity to go out. He gets picked up and brought home with local transport and the carers are always kind and caring. He enjoys the activities and it makes my life easier to have a break from caring.
The staff are friendly, professional and attentive. I enjoyed most of the activities, e.g quiz, basketball, though not crafts. I feel very well cared for. Provision of other services such as a podiatrist is extremely helpful.
I go there and have a good time. They are very friendly. The dinners are lovely and I enjoy it. Then they bring me home at 4 pm and see that I have everything and let my daughter know by phone.
The staff are all kind and helpful and the transport provided is excellent. The whole day is extremely good value.
We have nothing but gratitude and praise for all who work there. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff outstanding. Everything is done for the good of the resident and staff are more than supportive to family.
Matron and deputy matron open and friendly and feel like they work in partnership with staff and ourselves.
My observation was that last year during building work of the new communal rooms, residents were not given much consideration for the fact they were looking out onto a building site for months on end - people skills were lacking! Lunch menu good for the cost to residents but would be better if a little more costly. Washing machines old and warn - impossible for an elderly lady to work, also impossible to read dials.
Mum has been at Whitgift House for nearly two years. She has a lovely room overlooking the gardens decorated with her own furniture. We looked at lots of homes and it stood out as the best. There are lots of activities, award-winning food and I particularly like that it's linked to Whitgift school so the school children come down very frequently to talk to the residents and play concerts for them. This gives the place a great community feel when some care homes can become isolated 'waiting rooms' for the inevitable. Whitgift House embraces life and keeps residents engaged. The staff are wonderful they feel like family now and I can't thank them enough. Even when things aren't perfect they stand out as caring and efficient. Early on mum made some complaints which worried me. Senior staff took this seriously and made a full investigation. I was made to feel comfortable about doing this and the result was better communication with mum at night when she's sleepy and not wearing her hearing aid.
I have had good, kind, care from all the staff as throughout the four years. I have lived in this lovely flat in sheltered accommodation here in South Croydon.

- Good - The service is performing well and meeting our expectations.
- Requires Improvement - The service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
- Inadequate - The service is performing badly and we've taken action against the person or organisation that runs it.
- Not rated - we have not yet rated this area of the service, this is normally because the assessments we have carried out have been focused on other key questions.
