Overall Experience

It was my husband's 70th birthday on the 11th May and the staff on Birch Ward went above and beyond with their kindness. We had family attend and they allowed us to bring in loads of balloons and decorations. The staff took photos on our behalf and helped make the whole event a joyous occasion. They are absolute heroes!

Reply from Natalie Vella, Manager at Barleycroft Care Home

My aunt was here for 2 years and 4 months until she passed away on 10-1-26, she was never happy she always wanted to go home and blamed me for putting her in here she spent the whole time in her room complaining and talking to imaginary people.

I always visit my friend with two other ladies from our church.
We have always found our friend clean, happy and well cared for.

The staff are all so caring and eager to help, not just our friend but everyone. Staff and patients were participating in bat & ball using Balloons. There is always joyful music playing. All in all a lovely care home.

Overall Experience

Mum came to the home in December from a previous care home; Mum has settled in very well, rooms are very modern and clean, regular staff helps with Moms familiarity with people to make her comfortable. She has put on healthy weight now and is smiling more. It makes a big difference to be able to see Mom during feeding times, as I can help and spend more time with her, security is good and it feels like a nice place to visit loved ones. I feel happy that when I am not there Mom is in the best care.

Mum has been here for 2 and a half years, she is well card for, with kindness and patience. We've no complaints re her food.
She enjoys the varied programme of pastimes and crafts but especially the music and singing although she doesn't always join in.

Communication with family is very good and the nursing care is excellent.

Overall Experience

My Aunt had been in Barleycroft for nine and a half years before her recent passing. There had been a number of staff changes during that time. She was always treated with care and respect. As her dementia worsened her care was increased .The home was very welcoming and I was always treated well. the home was regularly updated with the decor and furnishings. The cleanliness was very good. The activities team work hard to provide things for the more able residents to take part in and organise Family summer and Christmas fairs. Seasonal celebrations always have decorations put up to make a homely atmosphere. All in all a good place.

Reply from Lynn Grafham, Regional Director at Barleycroft Care Home

She has a passion for Frailty and End of Life care

Natalie had worked in care homes for over 8 years in senior roles, and uses the ethos that " She works in her residents' home, they do not live in her place of work".

Natalie understands that moving into a care home can be difficult, as this is your last piece of independence, but she believes that when residents move in, their care must be tailored to them and person-centred. She encourages residents to maintain as much independence as they can.

Eleni said she has a passion for healthy eating, providing a healthy, balanced diet, nutrition and keeping fit.

“We started ready meals with Apetito, and I was not very keen to serve ready-made meals to the residents. Slowly, slowly, we started with one meal created from scratch per week, which was a roast dinner.

We now serve four weekly menus prepared from scratch.
I like chatting with the residents and getting their feedback about the meals.

After a long, tiring day, it is good to hear positive comments about the meals from residents
