I have been visiting my friend in this care home for over a year. I can honestly say I have always found the staff to be wonderfully caring, and genuinely interested in residents comfort. To be subject to such demanding requirements and still maintain a cheerful demeanor ,which definitely affects the
well-being of the residents, is totally praiseworthy.

I have power of attorney for a resident at this care home. He came to the home after a long spell in hospital which traumatised him greatly. During his hospital stay he acquired a grade 4 pressure sore which was getting frequently infected. He arrived at the home in October 2025 and was welcomed with
open arms. The actual transfer plans were difficult and had to be delayed a number of times due to the hospital not being prepared for transfer.

His sore is now almost healed and he has not had another infection since he arrived. He is now at the stage where he is nearly ready to mobilise. He loves the food and the care has been second to none. I, as a visitor, am welcomed with smiles. All of my queries are answered fully and in a timely manner. I have been a care manager and nurse for much of my life and have also worked for the CQC so I don't write this review lightly. The home itself is beautiful with grounds that help the positive factors for both the residents and visitors.

Reply from Victoria Hornibrook, Home Manager at Milton Ernest Hall Care HomeThank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review.

We are truly grateful that you took the time to share your experience, especially given your extensive professional background in care and regulation. Your feedback means a great deal to our entire team.

It has been a privilege to support both you and your loved one during what we understand has been a very challenging journey following his hospital stay. We also are delighted that he has made such significant progress, particularly with the healing of his pressure sore and his move towards mobilising again. This is a testament not only to his resilience but also to the dedication and commitment of our care and nursing teams.

Your kind words about the quality of care, the food, and the welcoming atmosphere for visitors are greatly appreciated. We strive to create a supportive, compassionate, and homely environment for both residents and their families, so it is wonderful to know that this has been your experience.

My husband initially spent 3 weeks respite care at Milton Ernest Hall Care Home, nearly 2 years ago, when he was soon made 'part of the family'. When, a few weeks ago, I realised that I could no longer care for him on my own at home. I had no hesitation in contacting Victoria to ask if he could come
back on a permanent basis, and he and I were welcomed back with open arms. The staff are amazing, and despite his often 'challenging' behaviour due to advanced dementia, they just know how to calm him down. He loves his food and enjoys outings to local country parks and going out for pub lunches. A special thank you to his 'special carer' who goes above and beyond with her love and care for us both.
Reply from Vicky Hornibrook, Home Manager at Milton Ernest Hall Care HomeThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt review.

We are so pleased that your husband felt welcomed and comfortable during his respite stay and that returning to Milton Ernest Hall felt like coming back to family. Supporting both our residents and their loved ones during such important transitions is something we care deeply about.

Your lovely words about our team will mean so much to them. We are incredibly proud of the compassion, patience, and dedication they show every day, especially when supporting residents living with advanced dementia. It's wonderful to hear that your husband is enjoying his meals, outings to local country parks, and pub lunches too.

We will be sure to pass on your special thanks to his 'special carer' - it's always heart-warming to hear when a team member has made such a positive difference.

Thank you once again for your kind words.

From the pre admission meeting to moving day everyone involved at the home have been excellent and professional. Sadly after only a short stay my mother passed away and the way her death was managed gives my family great comfort. My father is still there and his care is of a very high standard. The
accommodation is clean and well appointed. All the staff have been friendly and welcoming.

My brother requires two carers most of the time. This care is provided with dignity and kindness. My brother appreciates the cheerfulness of the staff and enjoys the excellent meals provided by the kitchen staff.
My brother needs constant medication and the nurses do their best to provide this on
demand.
The manageress and her staff are most helpful in a practical way to my brother and the family.

My dad moved to Milton Ernest Hall in January 2025 and settled in immediately.
He loves the beautiful grounds and the grand rooms. He feels as if he is living in a National Trust Property!
In particular he enjoys eating with the other residents in the wood panelled dining room where they have proper
napkins and napkin rings.
Despite having dementia he is included in all the activities and is regularly taken on trips to the pub or the bowls club which he really enjoys.
The staff are super friendly and helpful. They really do make you feel like part of the family and I am enjoying getting to know them all and the other residents.

My mother has been a resident since December 2023. She was frail and not coping at all at home, she had a nasty leg ulcer for eight years and the district nurses were unable to heal it.
After seven months of dedicated nursing, she is now free of the ulcer. She is very happy and calls Milton Ernest
Hall her home. She gets on well with staff and residents and it is the best thing she ever did to come and live at Milton Ernest Hall, thank you.

Friendly, caring and compassionate staff, nurses care and admin/reception who genuinely look to fulfil the wishes of residents and take good care of them. Communication with family is good. Food is good quality and special accommodations are made without fuss to cater for preferences. Residents go for
regular outings to a range of different local places, and the home often hosts events and brings family and the local community in. We are very happy with Milton Ernest Hall.

Since my mum moved into Milton Ernest a year ago as a fairly high-dependency resident, she has always been treated with care and respect by all the staff. She always seems happy and never has any complaints when I visit. There are no set visiting times, so I am often able to turn up unannounced after
work and always find the staff to be very professional in their attitude towards both myself and the residents, creating a relaxed atmosphere for everyone. Relatives are regularly updated with all the activities put on for residents and I feel it to be a well-run, well-managed, and safe place for my mum to spend the latter years of her life.

I find visiting my mother relaxing. I was really stressed after my elderly mother was in hospital and the care home staff and atmosphere is very calming and welcoming. The staff are helpful and pleasant. They are all knowledgeable about my mother’s routine and progress. My mother arrived at Milton Ernest
in a very low state. She could hardly talk or move. She is now up and dressed every day sitting up and eating at the table every day. After years of worrying about my
Mum I can relax and be confident that she is safe and well cared for.
Thank you for looking after my mother so well.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.830) out of 10 for Milton Ernest Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.905 for Milton Ernest Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (182 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.905
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Milton Ernest Hall Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
