At Parkside they put a real focus on making the care person-centred, upholding the resident’s dignity, respect and independence. The activity coordinators help make sure there’s plenty of fun things for everyone to do.
All bedrooms have ensuite facilities with a 24-hour call system, many with views of the surrounding gardens.
Parkside prides itself on the balanced and nutritious dishes that are served to residents at mealtimes. The meals, which are freshly prepared every day, are suited to each resident’s individual food preferences and choices.
Helping residents to recover or retain their independence is especially important here. The gardens are lovely, my Dad enjoyed walking and sitting in the peaceful spaces. The visiting restrictions made it awkward for our family to visit my Dad as we would have liked. My Dad really enjoyed the food at Parkside. The manager really went out of her way to make sure my Dad was ok and she organised a fantastic trip for him which he loved. The staff that was on when my Dad passed away were sympathetic and kind. They looked after my sister.

We first used Parkside for respite care for my Mum. During our initial visit, we were greeted by kind and caring staff who explained exactly how my Mum would be cared for. When we left after that first visit, we knew that Mum would be cared for just as well as she was at home, and loved almost as much too, and when the time came for Mum to be a permanent resident at Parkside, my brother and I were at peace with what had to be. Mum is now settled and happy at Parkside. She is beginning to take part in a variety of activities (Bingo, flower arranging, sit and chat over chocs and tea, etc). Parkside is a modern and clean environment and the staff are supportive of both my Mum and my family. We are kept abreast of any developments in Mum's health and welfare and telephoned on a regular basis to check whether we have any concerns about her care. When we leave after each visit, I know that Mum is safe, happy, and well cared for.

I became a respite care resident for 3 weeks, so, therefore, I've been "on the inside" and can see both sides. It was a real eye-opener. Just how really hard the devoted care staff work, and how they have to juggle the job of feeding those who cannot feed themselves and take meals to those who can. Not once was there a raised voice. All carers spoke lovingly to those in their care, with a smile on their face and a smile in their voice. And the food was excellent. Beautifully cooked and well presented on the plate to the residents who could eat by themselves. No shortage of food or drinks. Even wine at dinner time if you wanted it. All staff, despite the pressure on their working time, seemed to enjoy their work and would often go out of their way to ensure that anyone in their care if they felt under the weather or seemed down, they made an extra effort. I was so well looked after with care and food, it almost felt like a hotel. A great big thank you to you all.

My friend was unfortunately diagnosed with a terminal illness and came to Parkside for Palliative care. He was admitted during lockdown and sadly we have been unable to visit him in the home. The staff have been excellent in arranging garden and window visits. He has no family but a large group of very close friends who have a window visit on a weekly basis and the home have been very accommodating. Their communication is excellent, they always ring if they have any queries or to let me know of any changes in his condition. It's hard not being able to 'pop' in and telephone calls with him are no longer possible due to his condition but the staff are always cheerful and very helpful whenever you ring for an update. I would definitely recommend Parkside to anyone looking for a care home and their treatment of their residents during these unprecedented times is remarkable. Keep up the good work.

Mum went into Parkside during Covid-19 lockdown. We can see her in her very lovely room through the window. She has her own paintings on the wall. At first, as I gather with all new residents, it is a wrench to leave home and settle in an entirely new environment, so it took about two weeks until...
Mum has made friends and looks forward to going to the dining room for dinner, taking care of her appearance. She has enjoyed having her hair and nails done regularly. Mum enjoys discussions with the other residents and staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the excellent staff.

I am a qualified registered nurse, having qualified in London in 2012. My nursing career began in the NHS, where I had the opportunity to work across a variety of hospital settings, including orthopaedics, general surgery and elderly care.
Over the years, I developed my career within the NHS, progressing from staff nurse to senior nurse, junior sister and then sister. I went on to become a ward sister in community hospitals and later a ward manager within an elderly care ward at Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Although I was proud of my progression within the NHS, I always felt that the most rewarding part of nursing was being directly involved in caring for people and making a difference to their everyday lives. This was one of the reasons I decided to move into the care home sector.
I have now been part of the Parkside family for two years, and I am genuinely very happy to be here. What I love most about Parkside is the atmosphere. It feels like a family home. From the moment you walk through the door, there is a sense of warmth, friendliness and belonging. I believe this is created by the wonderful team and relationship between our residents and our staff.
For me, working in care is about much more than providing excellent clinical care. It is about getting to know each person as an individual, understanding what is important to them, listening to their stories and helping them to feel valued, respected and at home. I am passionate about maintaining high standards of care while making sure that every resident experiences kindness, dignity and compassion. At Parkside, we are guided by Bupa values of being Caring, Brave and Responsible, and these values are reflected in the way we support our residents, their families and each other. I am particularly proud to be part of a team that strives to create an environment where people genuinely feel that they belong.
Outside of work, family is very important to me. Becoming a grandmother has brought me a great deal of joy, and I treasure the time I spend with my grandson and my family. I also enjoy travelling, cooking, and reading to maintain my professional knowledge.
