My name is Jane and I am the home manager at Argyles.
I have been a qualified nurse since 1991, having trained at Warwick and Coventry in the late 80’s.
My career started in neuro-rehab and I worked at a hospital in Birmingham where I cared mostly for patients with MS, MND, MSA and post CVA.
Following my marriage to a ‘Southerner’ I moved to Newbury in Berkshire with the promise it would only be for ‘a year’. I have now lived in Newbury for 33 years!
I was unsure of where I wanted my career to take me so helped to commission a brand-new nursing home in Overton, Hampshire, where I was appointed deputy manager. I then moved to a smaller nursing home in Reading, where I could continue my neuro-rehab but with an elderly clientele.
Following the birth of my daughter Cassia, I decided to look for work around child care. I worked at a health spa as a nurse advisor at weekends and did bank work via an agency on night shifts.
Once my daughter was at school, I was able to return to my love of neuro-rehab and was offered the position of RN at Sandleford Hospital, which later became Donnington ward at
West Berks Community Hospital. I became a senior nurse on day shifts and loved working with the local GP team which covered the ward. So much so, that when I was offered a position at the GP surgery as a practice nurse, I jumped at the chance.
I spent 12 years at Eastfield House and had a very varied career during this time, whilst simultaneously continuing my education and completing a number of different health related diplomas.
Throughout my time at the surgery, my workload was mostly with the older population – an age group which I continued to love working with. When I saw a position advertised to give input at a nursing home as a clinical lead I was determined to go and provide the care I could in an area that I loved.
In 2020, I joined Bupa and the rest is history! I love working as part of a team and really like the collaborative way of working with my colleagues both within the care home and across the whole of Bupa.
Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and then living in Birmingham I always classed myself as a bit of a Northerner, however, following my marriage and move to Newbury I have spent more time in the South of the Country and love being here. I live a mile from the Argyles so mostly walk to work.
My parents are still both in the Midlands, and also my daughter, so I do still travel up to Birmingham, but my real passion is travelling to Australia to visit my brother and sister in Brisbane and Queensland.
I also love gardening and have a 1/3 of an acre to potter in and grow my own fruit and veg.
My other passion is dogs. I have a setter called Porthos who comes to work with me daily and is one of the homes ‘therapy dogs.’ I also foster for the charity SebPRA.org and have had quite a few dogs stay overnight, a week or months, on the way to their forever families. The standing joke in our house is that I like dogs more than people! (True).
My daughter has recently had a cockerpoo puppy, Zenna, so I am also a grandma to an eight month old ball of fluff!
Other than that, I love cooking, chocolate and reading.
