Dormy House is good caring, good staff, friendly, lovely environment and homely. Staff are so friendly with my husband since he moved into Dormy House. The clinical lead nurse very supportive and always updating me on my husband's health and condition and concerns. GP is always there to attend to any medical issues relating to him, even with language barrier he is in good hands.

I've always worried about having to put my mum into a home as I felt she would hate it! but I've never seen her so happy! always telling me about what she's enjoying there. It really puts my mind to rest knowing she's being cared for in such a loving way and that she's enjoying being there.

The change in Mum since coming into Dormy House has been fantastic! She is back to her old self because she is happy. The house is lovely, but it is the staff that make her life enjoyable ... they are really brilliant!

My Mother moved into Dormy House in November last year. I have no transportation and a member of staff was kind enough to help me move her belongings. With staff this kind and generous I’m confident that she’s being well looked after. The place is really well looked after and the activities are engaging and encourages her to get involved.

My father has been cared for by Dormy House for two years.
The carers have always been compassionate, supportive, gentle, encouraging, attentive and knowledgeable about my father's needs.
Personal care was always thorough, he was always clean-shaven and in clean clothes.

Three carers went above and beyond. A personal thank you also to the managers, who always dealt with any concerns.

I found the care and love my husband received in the year he spent here was excellent. The staff were wonderful to him and to us, especially in the last few days of his life.

They really looked after us.

A big thank you to all the carers and staff at Dormy House for taking great care of my mother during her last months of life.
The carers were always gentle, encouraging and supportive. Personal care was excellent, she was always in clean clothes and hygiene was always up to her high standard.
I would personally like to thank one carer who had a special bond with my mother and was always able to ease her anxieties.

Also thanks to the managers for always listening and dealing with any worries or concerns.

My mother was transferred to Dormy House from a care home and was bedbound and unable to speak although alert and awake. She was nursed in bed. The care staff signed a form in her room to say they had visited her every half an hour. This was simply not the case as we sat with her for over an hour twice a week and did not see any care staff during our visits, the staff were also unaware that we were visiting. In short, she could have been left alone for hours. The day she died, pneumonia had developed and I sat with her. The care staff told me that they had got her up that morning and gave her a shower and washed her hair. This has left me shocked and saddened to know that my mother's last day was spent being taken from her comfortable bed where she should have been washed and looked after with care and dignity. When I left my mother on her last day, care staff arrived to give her some dinner and I am not assured that they did not try and feed her. She died an hour later.

My Step-Mother in Law arrived at Dormy House five years ago. She was immediately welcomed and felt at home with her beautiful room. She was very happy, wonderfully cared for and enjoyed activities, especially reading to the little children and helping the hairdresser. As she declined and died recently, her care was loving and excellent in every way.

My mother has been a resident at Dormy House for a few years now and is doing pretty well in the capable hands of the highly commendable staff. When I telephone to talk to Mum, I've realised since talking to the staff first, that they put a lot of effort into caring for the dementia patients, of which my mother is a sufferer. Thank you to all those who work within this environment, which must be quite demanding at times.

I would like to express my gratitude to Dormy House for the support given to my Mother before her passing. I’m in no doubt that Mum spent her final months in the best place. The difference in her demeanour from being distressed after leaving hospital to nonstop smiling and contentment was clear.
There was an obvious decline in her strength due to her incapacity however we could clearly see an improvement with the stimulation provided by other residents and staff members at the home. Staff at Dormy are incredible and always accommodating, genuinely caring and available at all times, we couldn’t ask for more especially in Mum's final week.

The care, extending beyond the line of duty was exceptional, absolutely nothing was too much trouble and I am extremely grateful. For this reason, I would like it to be known that I totally recommend the staff and high level of care without hesitation and wish to extend my gratitude to all the team at Dormy House. I could not have asked for more!

I transferred my mum to Dormy House in September 2018 after a very bad 3 weeks at another home. She has been well looked after and has bounced back to life and her old self. I cannot thank the people of Dormy House enough for showing me that care/nursing homes can be lovely, caring and attentive to the old.

Although a relatively short stay, we could not have picked a better place for Mum and Dad to end their days together. Not only was the level of care and professionalism exceptional but the team were kind and compassionate, not just towards my parents but also in supporting the family through times of sadness. We quickly developed a relationship of trust and good rapport with the management team and staff, so much so we were able to take a much needed holiday, safe in the knowledge that Mum and Dad were well cared for. My parents were always treated with respect and recognised as individuals with their own personalities, likes, dislikes, past lives and experiences. Having always taken great pride in their appearance this was ensured to the very end; it meant a lot to us seeing my Mum’s hair and clothes looking nice every day and wearing a touch of lipstick and her favourite perfume.

Dormy House is a special place with a special team, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The staff on my husband's unit are very caring. I feel there are not enough full-time staff in all units. Agency staff are not up to the standard required and there are too many at times.
I haven't been informed of any residents/family meetings for over six months.
I feel the management should meet us more often to discuss as a group our thoughts or problems.

Also, there seems to be a lot of staff leaving and are not being replaced, putting a strain on existing staff.

Carmela Magbitang
Carmela MagbitangJob Title Home Manager

Originally from the Philippines, I am a nurse by profession and I’ve been working in the care sector for more that 20 years, since moving to the UK. I continually try to enhance my knowledge and skills as a nurse. As a Home Manager, it allows me to make a difference across the wider community.

I was part of an NHS pilot project designed to reduce hospital admissions, not just in residential care but for any elderly person at home. It was a fascinating project, and I am proud to have been at the forefront of this initiative.

What truly resonates with me is the personal connection I foster with the residents. I prioritise spending meaningful time with them, integrating myself as a familiar presence rather than just an authority figure, and ensuring their comfort and well-being. I sit next to them and find the time to check the whole home’s environment and work closely with my wonderful team here at Dormy. For me, caregiving is a heartfelt commitment to providing the level of care I would want for my own family.

Drawing from my upbringing in the Philippines, where intergenerational living is customary, I approach each resident as a cherished member of my own family, overseeing every aspect of their care with meticulous attention.
