Mum has been warmly welcomed and has a beautiful sunny room. Everyone has been kind and caring and helped her and the family settle in so well. She is enjoying the home, gardens and cafe and everyone here has helped her during this transition. I would recommend Lynwood and its team in a heartbeat. Thank you.

My twin brother was admitted last week after some lengthy hospital stays. The CC Manager and head of nursing were very helpful upon assessment. He is looking 100% better already and is receiving great care by the nurses and care staff. On my first visit I was made to feel welcome offered refreshments, home felt homely would definitely recommend.

Roger (my husband) comes regularly for respite care. He is made most welcome and enjoys his time here. It is of course very convenient for Roger to return here for his physiotherapy sessions on site, as well as a wonderful sunday carvery in the restaurant. He particularly likes the thursday morning prayer meeting in the pantry, where he is a regular attendee which satisfies his religious needs.

As for me, I am made so welcome on my visits, and the staff and management team are very ready to listen and share.

My wife Lorena has been resident in Lynwood for more than 3 years (since December 2022). I chose Lynwood based on previous knowledge and experience of a friend. A particular benefit to her has been the in-house physiotherapy and the entertainments. The building is light and bright with an open aspect and the garden area is a great pleasure as are other shared space. In our experience the management team has been responsive to any concerns and the care staff have given Lorena loving care and treat me as a friend.

Sadly, my brother developed Alzheimer's in 2021 & he was fortunate enough to be taken to Lynwood Care Centre & I have such experience of this illness and the challenges it presents & I live in Portugal and visit as often as possible & I can honestly say that I have never seen such a high level of care and compassion & my brother is respected and kept clean and as active as possible. The food is excellent. The team go over and above and my brother is kept occupied. Thank you sincerely

The care home is a beautiful place.
The staff are wonderful but working under pressure all the time.
It is unnerving when I walk into the ward where my relative is on to see no carers at all?

This could be a really fantastic care home. If more staff were employed.

Cold and not welcome feeling. Ward is clinical and homely warm, and functional.
Staff are good and kind but restrictions are on them from Management.

The Management team is less than functional and doesn't care or try to accommodate the needs of the patient. Badly managed by a cold team that doesn't listen to the family or the patient. Would never recommend this Care facility.

My first visit to Lynwood Care Home was an easy decision to make and I would not have to visit other care homes. Management greeted me well and showed me around the building which was perfect for my wife's care, and very clean. The rooms and bathroom were perfect. I was impressed with the visitor's rooms which are very private. The staff are very caring and well trained, My wife is very happy with her care.

Lynwood's care for Mum was always good. The staff dealt with Mum's care in a professional manner. They showed her respect and love. They met her physical needs and within the time allowed to them, also her mental, emotional and spiritual needs. Some of the long-term staff became her 'friends and family' for which both she and I were grateful. They were also always kind and welcoming to my dad when he visited Mum. He became an 'honorary' resident - cups of tea and a plate of food always available for him, and staff looking after him as he became increasingly forgetful and confused.

My only criticism of Lynwood is the admin. At times the admin at Lynwood was rather chaotic, leading to confusion and requiring us to expend too much time chasing and checking bills etc.

Reply from Nicola Hall, Care Centre Manager at Lynwood Care Centre

Thank you for your feedback, I know the team cared very much for your mum and looked forward to your dad visiting too, he was indeed part of the family too. Thank you for raising your concern about the facility of invoicing, I will review and discuss this with the financial team.

Very happy with care provided to my wife who has stage 4 Alzheimer’s keeping her safe and well fed, something in the end I could not provide without compromising my own health.

The majority of the care staff are very good and very caring, some of the management team seem distant to the staff and could be more proactive with them. Generally the care being received is good, again attention to detail such as drinks left within reach of the resident and keeping the residents covered up to assist their dignity. I know people move about and lose their blankets but regular checking would avoid embarrassment for visitors and residents.

I have just had another excellent two-week stay at Lynwood CareHome. The staff are consistently welcoming and friendly. I was also very pleased to be helped to access physiotherapy sessions each week, the carers making sure I was showered and breakfast in good time.

My wife was also made very welcome when she visited me. She was very relieved that the staff were careful to put my hand and leg splints for my afternoon sleep as well as overnight. I enjoyed the good quality food and the options available. My room was spacious enough for me to access both the French window and the desk in my electric wheelchair.

Mum has been at Lynwood for the past 4 years. We (the children) are always informed of any changes to her health, medication, etc. The care, dedication, kindness, and attention to detail shown by all the staff is truly humbling. We know that they care deeply for Mum and are always bright and cheerful. We have recommended Lynwood to many of Mum's friends and families because of our experience. It's a 100% recommendation!

My mother has been in Lynwood Care Home for four years and seems very content. Whenever I visit, she is always clean and well presented and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.
My mother moved into one of the houses for residents with dementia two years ago, and, although virtually bed-bound now, her carers still try to chat to her and find her sense of humour.

Overall I’m very pleased with the help and care my mother receives.

Nicola Hall
Nicola HallJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2007

Nicola is the Care Centre Manager at Lynwood, having joined in 2007 as an administrator, and was promoted to manage our northeast care home in 2013. During her time at Birch Hill Care Home, Nicola achieved an outstanding rating with CQC during her last inspection in 2019.

Nicola transferred to Lynwood in 2021 and, since joining, has reviewed how we provide care to our residents and recently launched our Best Life Model of care.

A quote from Nicola

"Since joining the team at Lynwood, it has been my focus to deliver our Best Life Model of Care which we successfully launched in December 2023, my team are now focused on providing person-centred care to our residents and I look forward to continuing to support and improve our quality of care here at Lynwood"

Mihail Gafincu
Mihail GafincuJob Title:Head of Clinical CareJoined: 2023

Lynwood is a great environment for delivering care. What I like about it is how it’s structured into units, or as we call them ‘houses’, of 15 people. To me, it’s the ideal environment to enable us to care for people in a person-centred way and it’s one of the main reasons I wanted to work for Lynwood. Another thing that attracted me to Lynwood is the Best Lives Model of Care, which allows nursing staff plenty of time with residents, so we can use our clinical skills to the fullest extent. It means we have enough time to spend with each resident to ensure they are well cared for and that their needs are being met.

“I also like the fact that Ben is a charity because I know that we’re focused on delivering good care rather than on making money. The staff here are passionate about care and they have really good relationships with the residents in each house.

“Another thing I like about Lynwood is the space. It looks big when you first get here – it is a big building - but I like the fact that there is enough space to do activities, meet with families and visitors as well as provide care. It’s also a very homely environment. When you walk into each house, it’s very relaxed, everyone’s happy, it really is home from home. Residents tell me that they feel at home here and that they feel safe, which is exactly what you want people to feel when they are living in a care home.

“I think the Best Lives Model will help us deliver an exceptional level of care because we are training our carers to a much higher standard than in many other care homes. They acquire nursing skills and other training which means the level of care they deliver is truly exceptional. I believe this model, where nurses deliver their clinical care throughout the care home – not just to people who are in nursing care units – is the future of care and will adopted by other operators when they realise the impact it has on care quality.

“Lynwood is special because of the way it feels here, it’s got a great atmosphere. It’s also unique in the way it supports the staff, it’s the first time I’ve seen this in a care home; very few organisations offer that level of support. Staff are listened to, they are supported throughout the ups and downs, and there is always someone there for them to talk to."

Dawn Brown
Dawn BrownJob Title:Head of Person Centred CareJoined: 2003

I have worked at Lynwood since 2003, I joined initially as part of the care team, supporting our residents and relatives on a day-to-day basis and I was promoted to a house leader in 2015, in this role I managed a residential dementia house and it was my responsibility to ensure that a person-centred approach to dementia care was provided.

In 2021 I joined the management team in my current role of Head of Person Centred Care. Working alongside the Head of Clinical Care, I manage Dove, Kingfisher, Nightingale and Heron Houses, I support the residents and relatives to ensure our residents can live their best lives whilst in our care, whilst also ensuring that our staff team are supported in their role.
