Glebelands Care Home in Wokingham is one of the most impressive homes for older people in the county of Berkshire. The care home provides highest quality residential care and nursing care in a beautiful setting.

A stunning Grade II listed building set within its own beautiful and expansive grounds, the home not only delivers exceptional residential and nursing care to its residents, it also provides an exceptional quality of life and sense of well-being.

The location of the home exceeds all expectations, with rolling neatly trimmed meadows surrounded by wildlife filled woodlands, the residents often wake up to bird song and views of roaming deer.

Despite this rural feel and sense of living deep within the countryside, it is just a short walk from the heart of the charming market town of Wokingham; ensuring many of the residents are frequent visitors to the tea shops and cafes which they enjoy with their loved ones or fellow residents and staff from the home.

Glebelands Care Home in Wokingham does not deliver care and support to those living with dementia instead focusing on providing exceptional residential and nursing care. The Glebelands is well respected by local healthcare professionals, enjoying an excellent reputation and has a highly coveted “Good” rating from the Care Quality Commission (February 2022); the home also enjoys a high degree of satisfaction from its residents and their loved ones.

The lifestyle of residents is a key focus, which is why they only offer a full-time activity programme but also a range of well–being activities such as hand and foot massages and aromatherapy. These have proved just as popular over the years with residents enjoying trips out, quizzes, wildlife interactions or film nights.

If you think that you or a loved one may soon need care pop in for a chat and find out what the Greensleeves difference really is.

Very positive experience of Glebelands Care Home - this applies to my experience witnessing the care and service across the entire team - besides, my father would let us know if this weren't the case - Thank you to all the staff.

Glebelands Care Home was our godsend when we needed them. My husband (not an easy man to please) settled well and the staff could not have been more caring and sharing jokes with him. He unfortunately did not stay for long as he was terminally ill but was under constant observation, which we were grateful
for. They were a great source of help and guidance which at the time was difficult to find elsewhere. Thanks to all at Glebelands.

My father has been a resident of Glebelands for over five years and I cannot praise all the staff and management highly enough. All the nursing, care and support staff are wonderful, very caring, very hardworking and dedicated. They are sensitive to my father's needs and treat him with respect and
dignity. The dedicated and very experienced management team work tirelessly to ensure that residents are well cared for and communicate very often with the families. They are continuously striving to improve services and residents' quality of life.
The Home is spotlessly clean, welcoming and well maintained with beautiful gardens.
The dedicated activities team encourage residents to take part in a variety of regular stimulating social activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, crosswords and outdoor visits to parks and garden centres.
The catering team has to be commended highly for substantial improvement in the quality and variety of meals.
I recommend Glebelands very highly.

The staff are very friendly, can’t do enough and management. The entertainment staff are very good and friendly as well. Always looks clean and smells nice. The rooms could be cosier and it feels very clinical in the home. The grounds are kept in good condition.

I wanted to thank the nurses, carers, entertainment staff, receptionists and volunteers who interacted with my mum over the last couple of years.
She was always treated in a kind and compassionate manner and I know on occasions Mum could be irritable but I did not ever experience anyone being less
kind or caring to her even if she was not feeling 100%.
Thank you all for your care.

I found the staff very friendly and helpful. They are always helpful towards my aunt. My aunt passed away in Glebelands Care Home with dignity and they followed our requests to the letter. They gave us time to sort out the room once my aunt died.

Mother became more unwell and the team went above and beyond obtaining medical assistance after the GP and paramedics felts that our mother was not ill or requiring further input. A urine infection then was found - the staff called 111 for advice and antibiotics were prescribed to her. The staff have
communicated with our family about everything that has occurred. Thank you.

My father was a resident at Glebelands for four years. During this time, my father was cared for by professional and caring staff. The activities staff ensured my father (blind) was included in all activities, both internal and external. My father became poorly in November 2022 and passed away. The
care he received was exceptional. The staff ensured he was not left alone at any time at the end of his life. We cannot express our thanks enough. Thank you Glebelands you are exceptional.

My dear friend was in Glebelands from 2020 to 2022. My impression overall was that the staff are very caring and do all they can to make a resident's stay as enjoyable as possible. They were always helpful to me if I made a request and during the pandemic, it was reassuring to know that they did everything
they could to ensure the safety of the residents. My only criticism would be that it wasn't made totally clear to my friend when she moved to Glebelands, that she would have to be in isolation for two weeks as she had come from a hospital during the pandemic.

The staff take a real interest in my mother and clearly care about her. She is cared for and treated with compassion and respect as an independent adult despite her dementia and frailness. Also, despite being mainly bedridden, she has excellent care to avoid bedsores etc. and is given the patience to
enjoy eating.

Mum stayed at Glebelands for a period of respite during June 2022. The level of care is wonderful. All members of the staff are fantastic. They are so caring and friendly, not only with Mum but with the family as well. The food is freshly cooked and very nutritious and varied. In terms of cleanliness,
Glebelands is spotlessly clean throughout. It was a great experience. Thank you to all of you at Glebelands.

The dedication and care the staff provide are outstanding. It's comforting to see the same staff when visiting, as this is beneficial to the residents. All the staff do their utmost to make life in the care home environment as enjoyable as possible. Should one have any concerns or questions, these are
dealt with efficiently. I'm sure we all appreciate the difficult and challenging work taking care of our loved ones entails, and we are truly grateful. Our family would highly recommend Glebelands to anyone facing the difficult decision of ensuring the best care available for their loved ones.

My Dad has been at Glebelands for the last 8 weeks since being released from hospital. His care and nursing needs are significant and frequent. We have been delighted by the care and compassion shown by so many staff which has greatly reassured him that he is in the right place for the last few weeks
or months of his life. Nothing has been too much trouble and the team have worked hard to liaise with other medical professionals to manage his needs and keep him where he wants to be - which is at Glebelands!

My mother was always cared for well and treated with dignity and respect by the Glebelands staff. It wasn't always easy during the pandemic, but they made things as good as possible in the circumstances. As mum deteriorated in the last few months of her life, she was made as comfortable as possible

I really feel the care at the home has gone significantly downhill. When my Grandma first went to Glebelands about five years ago we were really happy with the care she received. However, in the last two and a half years I’d describe their attitude as neglectful at best.
We noticed that she was becoming
increasingly forgetful and asked staff to refer her for a memory assessment. Fast forward to Jan 2022 and this had still not been done. In the meantime, my Grandma’s memory had deteriorated to the point that hospital staff were shocked she was without a diagnosis in Feb. We have since had her assessed and found she does not know the date, who the prime minister is, or the year and is not competent to make decisions regarding her care. How did trained care staff miss this? Now she is ineligible for certain treatments due to the severity of her illness.
Reply from Doina Hirta, Home Manager at GlebelandsThank you for your review. We are sorry that this has caused you distress. We would like to offer our reassurance that the necessary referrals were made in August 2021 and followed up on a regular basis however, unfortunately, we are not able to influence GP decisions, or expedite NHS waiting lists.

Seems to be well run but there seems to be a bit of a problem with handover communication between staff in that there is sometimes a delay in actioning requests for medication, which my father needs. Overall, the staff are very caring, so I think this is a systems problem, which could perhaps be improved
- perhaps writing in a handover diary?
Reply from Dorina Andanuta, Acting Home Manager at GlebelandsThank you very much for your feedback. We greatly appreciate your kind comments and recognising our caring staff. In our communication with staff, we use both written and verbal handovers. We appreciate your comments on medication, and we are reliant on the response times from the GP and delivering pharmacy service in relation to medication, and we are sorry if the pharmacy service is slower than expected. Our Acting Manager is always happy to discuss any aspect of care with families if they would like to contact her.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.702)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.702) out of 10 for Glebelands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.802 for Glebelands is calculated as follows: ( (175 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.802
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glebelands is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
