Overall Experience

Nursing care. My mother-in-law chose the care home in July 2021. On her visit, she thought the home "was superb". Soon after her admission, the problems started to show, e.g. no hot water since July 21 (she gets washed with cold water to date). Her call bell is continuously out of her reach and staff have "no idea why" (so how is one supposed to call for help?). The table with her drink is left out of her reach, leaving her dehydrated, shouting her lungs off to attract the attention of staff. Unexplained bruising, property damage, etc. Yet, we're being assured by the manager and regional director that the call bell is "always left within her reach" and staff is "trained".

Despite concerns raised with the staff, management and authorities, there was no improvement in care.

I can't see how anybody can leave a 5-star review for a care home with no running hot water for personal care and staff that admits they "don't have the time" for the resident. At the moment it's dangerous and unsafe. I'd give 0* if available.

My mother has been a resident at Ashby House Care Home for over a year now, and has always been so very well cared for and loved by all of the staff. Her wishes have always been taken into account. I am regularly contacted about everything that happens in the home and they keep me informed about her wellbeing. Although I cannot visit often staff help me to maintain contacts with mum via skype, which I am so grateful for. Every time I was able to speak to her she was happy and spoke positively about the staff and the activities she'd taken part in, never forgetting to mention delicious cakes which the kitchen bakes. Thank you very much for everything you do.

Mum was admitted to Ashby House after being diagnosed with a terminal illness and we were no longer able to care for her at home. I can honestly say this care home is outstanding. She receives excellent care. The staff work as a team and do everything they can to support my mum. Management is excellent, very approachable and communicates all the important information on the day. I spoke to my sister who confirmed that we as a family could not find a better place for our mum. Thank you so much!

I am extremely happy with the care that my mother is receiving at Ashby House. The care staff and managers are all so wonderful, caring and compassionate. Whenever I contact Ashby House, staff have always time for me and always assist as best they can, but most importantly mum feels very happy at Ashby House and is so grateful for all the support she receives.
I can't thank all the staff enough for what they do for my mum.

Thank you so much for everything.

All staff at Ashby House are really amazing! Very friendly and supportive.
I feel my relative is well cared for, and that is a huge relief to know that she is happy. Had a lovely visit recently in the room with her and it was so lovely to see each other after a long time break due to covid-19. It was a great time to catch up and share some memories and just seeing her again.

Thank you very much for all your hard work and commitment.

My aunt has been at Ashby House for more than a year now. I couldn’t have chosen a better home. The nursing staff keep me informed of my aunts well-being by phone, so important in this Covid year. She is very well cared for. I have been particularly impressed with the activity organisers and the amazing variety of activities and events organised for the residents. We see what they have been up to with a regular newsletter that always includes lovely photos. I cannot thank the staff enough for the way the team as a whole cared for their residents.

Reply from Wojciech Kuczkowski, General Manager at Barchester Ashby House Care Home

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I will pass this on to all the team, I know they will really appreciate hearing you are so happy with the care and services for your Aunt. Especially in recent times when family visits have been so restricted, it is good to know you felt reassured your Aunt was safe and well cared for. Thank you very much.

When my mother convalesced at Ashby House, following an operation just before Christmas, I was most impressed with the level of care and respect she received during her time there (just over 3 weeks). The Manager, nurses and care staff bent over backwards to ensure all Mum's needs were met. As a consequence, she made a very good recovery, gained strength and her mobility also improved as a result. The Manager and the nursing staff kept me very well informed with regards to Mum's care and progress. My mother was also very impressed with the level of care she received and remembers the staff fondly. I would definitely recommend.

It is difficult enough having your mum in care, without the added stress of not being able to see her properly or explain why. What makes things slightly easier is knowing how much love and care for my mum all the staff have.
I really can't thank all the team at Ashby House enough. They are always trying to do their best for mum, they know what she likes and try to arrange things that she will enjoy and make her time there as best as it can be. Mum has been there for 18 months and it very quickly became her home and the staff are like her family.

I would highly recommend Ashby House and the whole team.

My mother spent over 10 years in Ashby House. I was deeply moved by the genuine affection and respect she had from all those in the home and thank everyone for the care and support you showed her, both through normal and difficult times. And also for the foresight that allowed me to be there towards and at the end. I will always hold the Ashby House team in great respect, both for what you did for my mother and also in managing so admirably in our present circumstances.

Whilst I have always been happy with Ashby House (and my aunt is extremely happy - calls the carer's family and loves them) since the new manager has been in place things have even improved no end!
Everyone seems happier, staff are definitely happier - I am told because "He gets involved and sorts things!"
The place is happier, big improvement all round!

I visit 3 times a week and go in and out at all times but Ashby House is always the same. Cool, calm, settled and happy. The carers and nursing staff are second to none - an excellent care home!

I felt that the residents were always treated with kindness and patience. The staff worked hard to provide a very caring and calming environment sometimes in quite challenging situations. There always seemed to be a lot of activities happening. It was good to see a full timetable displayed each week. As visitors, we were always made to feel very welcome and during the night we spent at my nan's bedside, the staff could not have done more to help us (despite being very busy with their usual duties). The home was always spotlessly clean and tidy.
