Like most children when faced with having to place a parent in a care home you're worried is this the right place, will they be treated with dignity and respect. Will they have all their needs met. Ashby House is wonderful. The nurses and carers go above and beyond to mee my dd's needs. They tall to him as a person and give him choices of what he wants i.e up what to eat going outings, eating in the dining room to socialise. Dad loves his new home just after we moved him there they had a BBQ out in the garden. All the family members were invited. There was a DJ playing a variety of music. A great way to meet new friends and other families.
There are daily activities that encourage the residents to try something new.
There are weekly outings for anyone who wishes to go out.
The nurses have been a tremendous help with my dad's illness and the empathy they show is wonderful. They help with any worries or concerns. The carers are wonderful. If they are busy they strive to make sure our loved ones are cared for.
The time spent talking to all the people who reside here learning about their lives, interests, history of work and more. The kitchen staff make wonderful home-cooked meals. They try to make sure there is a variety of choices daily and follow any special restrictions.
The laundry and housekeeping were diligent to ensure the home is clean every day all day. Your laundry is done daily without you having to worry. There is tea, coffee and water always available to everyone in the lobby. You will always find cake there too.

We are very pleased that we chose Ashby House as my/our dads new home.

Reply from Gwen, Acting General Manager at Barchester Ashby House Care Home

Visited for the first time yesterday and what a wonderful surprise. Happy staff, nothing was too much trouble. BBQ out in the garden with memory lane music being played. Residents were so well cared for, only had to ask for help and it was given with a smile. Very impressed. Thanks to you all.

This is the third time my wife, who has Alzheimer's Dementia, has stayed at Ashby House and each time the standard of care has been excellent.

The staff care so well for the residents and in a relaxing and friendly way. It is comforting to be able to go away and relax knowing that my wife will be so well looked after.

Once again I can say a very big thank you to the manager and her team.

We are so grateful for the support that our mum and we were given during her short stay at Ashby House and the kindness we were shown.
All the staff were very friendly, courteous and professional.
Our mum was treated with dignity and her wishes respected by all the staff at Ashby House.
The nurses were very caring, reassuring and proactive. They brought in the correct medical professionals to support our mother's well being, kept on top of all medical needs, sorted out a special mattress and chased up on medical appointments.
They kept us fully informed on our mother's condition in a very compassionate way.
The carers were very cheerful and caring. They took time to sit with our mum and nothing was too much trouble.
Both the manager and deputy manager fully understood our mum's special needs and circumstances which eased our worries considerably. They were very approachable and made all the appropriate arrangements.

We cannot recommend Ashby House highly enough and we will be forever grateful.

Staff are amazing, working hard, activities have improved lots, residents have stimulations daily. Anytime I've asked for anything I had an immediate and positive response. Staff nurses very very competent and admiral and helpful. People will need to see Ashby House, it's so much changed. The lounge could benefit of new furniture, its memory lane. Staff are smiling, says good evening every time I call in.

Generally, poor care homes receive justifiably bad press but rarely do excellent homes receive the praise they deserve. Ashby House deserves all the accolades you can muster. It is fresh, clean and tidy and their facilities are exemplary. The staff are genuinely caring and experienced. My mother was admitted for palliative/end of life care recently after spending some 5 weeks in the hospital. If she had been admitted earlier, she wouldn't have lived any longer but her last days would have been more comfortable and dignified.

Reply from Ana Ciobotaru, General Manager at Barchester Ashby House Care Home

Dear Colin. We are glad we have looked after your mum, but unfortunately for a few days only. We would have loved to have had your mum here for a longer time. I am glad I have met you and your lovely family. Please come in for the open day on 23rd June.

Since my mum sadly passed at Ashby House last August they have given the home a most beautiful makeover. I have to say it is like walking into a 1st class hotel. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully done. The reception, lounges and dining room are also beautiful. I was glad to see that most of the staff still worked there and they are helping to create a warm and inviting environment for the Residents and their families. A very beautiful caring home. I would recommend it to anyone. Now 5 star.

We had to find a care home on very short notice for my ailing grandmother. We were shown around by the very welcoming manager. The care home was beautifully presented, clean and friendly. The residents all looked content and happy.

As soon as my grandmother arrived she was given the best care possible. The nurse was very good at explaining what would happen with my grandmother’s health and we were immediately put at ease. The care my grandmother received was nothing short of compassionate and excellent. Our only wish was that we would have loved to have got her to Ashby Care Home sooner.

Overall Experience

My wife was diagnosed with dementia in August 2015 and was invited to become a resident at Ashby House. Initially, we were impressed with the home, but over the period to September 2017, we became less happy with their overall performance and I was travelling 45 miles - 3 times per week to visit.

I believe the problems with the home stem from the number of managers in those 2 years and that there was little continuity with the carers during that time. There are signs that the latest manager is making some improvements but there is a lot of room to improve. My wife is moving to Hemel Hampstead which is better for me to visit.

I was obviously concerned to read your comments and fully respect your concerns. However, I believe your review relates to a period prior to my arrival in the home and as you know, we have been making a number of changes in recent months.
