Highfield is an established, largely purpose-built care home offering residential, nursing and dementia care. Its dedicated staff has been selected not only for their professional ability but also for their commitment to truly making a difference for the people in their care.

Resident’s rooms are spacious and all feature en-suite facilities (all have toilet and sink, some also have a shower). The communal areas are always busy – be it having a meal in the dining room, watching TV in the lounge, sitting in the garden or reading in the garden lounge area. There are no fixed visiting hours so friends and family can come and see residents at any time. You are always welcome to join for a cup of tea, lunch, on an outing or at one of the home's social events.

They have a chef who cooks all the meals from scratch. Breakfast is available in the dining room or in the resident’s bedroom. Residents can eat whenever they wake up in the morning and can choose between anything from cereal to a full English.

Lunch is three courses (starting with a nutritious soup) and the evening meal is a choice between sandwiches or a hot dish such as pasta or quiche. They have snacks available should anyone feel hungry at any other time.

They also serve drinks four times per day in addition to meal times (but staff will always make a drink for anybody at any other time and there is a coffee machine in the reception area).

Activity is at the heart of wellbeing and they have a full-time activity and wellbeing co-ordinator who makes sure there is always plenty to do, this includes regular trips on the minibus. Residents love going to the garden centre, shops, museums and the beach in the summer.

My Dad is a currently a resident at Highfields and has been since January 2025. He had always said he would never go into a Care Home but after his health declined there was little option and he reluctantly agreed to do so. Although Dad can be, or has been in the past a somewhat difficult character
to deal with, I felt he settled well and reasonably quickly. All the staff at Highfields are so friendly and caring, and even when Dad is being a little difficult about things, including personal care, they know when to leave him and just come back later.
The food offered at meal times is fresh, varied and looks very appetising. There is always a member of staff on hand if I have questions or queries or even ask for a general update on Dad's condition.
The staff not only show care to my Dad and the other residents but also offer support to me at times if I require it as do they other resident's families. Ali in the office is also always happy to help with any administration questions, queries or generally.

My sister has been a resident of Highfields for the past 2 years . She is in a wheelchair has learning difficulties and dementia. She is virtually non verbal due to her worsening condition so is unable to articulate how good or bad her care is but knowing her as I do and visiting her on a regular basis
i believe she is well treated by the staff who in my experience are kind and caring despite the challenging conditions they face when working with residents who have advanced dementia. The home itself always appears clean and tidy and communication from the management has improved a lot over the past year.

I must commend the staff of Highfield for the warmth, competence and care shown to my mother-in-law in meeting her increasingly complex needs. We have come to know many of the staff and residents by name and are always made to feel most welcome during our frequent visits. Any concerns are dealt with
quickly and efficiently and there is excellent communication between the home and the local medical practise regarding patient welfare.
We are indeed pleased to have found Highfield to care for our much loved relative.

My father has been in Highfield for nearly a year now. I cannot speak highly enough about the care that he receives and the dedication and professionalism of the staff there. What a wonderful home it is. Everyone is so caring and friendly. All the staff are so caring and warm with the residents. It
is a wonderful place where the needs of the elderly are met and the staff go beyond what can be reasonably expected of them. I find it a really uplifting experience to visit Highfield and my father.
My father is very lucky to be there. And I am very lucky that he is there too!

Mum has been in Highfields Care Home many years and we have consistently had to be on the case of her basic care needs with the management. Care workers are constantly reminded to ensure simple routines and tasks relating to her care are done. They are also asked to let us know if she needs anything
but never do. Whilst a key few are very good, many of them are are often indifferent, fail to introduce themselves or speak to mum when carrying out general care tasks and only do things when reminded to do so or asked to do
If we were not constantly reminding or visiting often, I dread to think how mum would be as she cannot ask or do anything for herself. She is generally cared for, clean and medically monitored but many basic requirements specific to her are often forgotten on a daily basis and we frequently have to raise concerns with the management team.

My mother moved to Highfields 2 May after a part replacement hip operation. The following day the home had a VE day celebration party an I was so surprised to see Mom joining in, sitting up smiling and waving a flag. It was so welcome after a distressing stay in hospital.
My mom has been here nearly
4 weeks now. The level of care she is receiving is first class. Nothing is too much trouble and I feel well supported too. At all times, Mom is treated with dignity and respect.

Highfield Care home, has been home for my daughter since 27/04/2023. These two years past so quick it is a very friendly home, safe, clean, smells good. My aunt has been at Highfields for almost three years. The manager and staff are amazing. I live outside the UK and visit a couple of times a year. But I phone in several times each week to catch up with my aunt. The staff are always friendly, helpful and let me know how my aunt is doing. There are
numerous activities for residents. When I visit, the staff never mind what time of day I show up. They are welcoming. I'm always offered a cup of tea (which is appreciated). What is most important to me is 1) my aunt has settled into Highfield and is well looked after and 2) if there are any issues at all (for example she gets a cold) the staff inform me. The team at Highfield schedules time with residents' families, welcomes us to different events and we can even attend activities. Personally, I'm a fan of the yoga/movement classes! Everyone at Highfield is kind, caring and compassionate. I have peace of mind knowing my beloved auntie is well looked after.

My partner has been a resident of Highfield for almost 2 years. In this time he has built up a nice relationship with the majority of the staff here. They come across as friendly and approachable, and I feel as though I can approach any of them with any concerns if need be.
In my mind, he is much happier
in himself since coming here, he doesn't leave his room that often which is his decision, but he knows there is always somebody close by if needed. If we sit in reception area there is always a few people that stop for a while and chat, which is lovely. Also if you don't fancy what is on the menu they are more than happy to cook something else for you.

My cousin is a resident of Highfield. I am no expert but the staff appear to be well trained and caring under firm but friendly management by the Manager and Deputy. Medical issues have been attended to promptly with a doctor in attendance when necessary. My cousin and I are satisfied and often impressed
by the care and consideration he is given. In particular, the way in which residents and their families are encouraged to voice their opinions on how the home is run, the activities provided, the food served and anything else they want to say either by themselves or in regular meetings. The management reacts positively to these views and also ensures that any remedial action is well known.

Dad spent the final two years of his life at Highfield Care Home, which was a surprise as he’d always said he never go and live in a care home. But he settled in well, and as it turned out, he actually loved finding a second family among the staff there, always ready to hear about the ups and downs
of each other's lives and to crack a joke when times were tough. They are a great team, and the care Dad got was exceptional.
Dad sadly passed away at the home, but he did so peacefully and in comfort. We can't thank the home enough for all they did for him. Including actually improving his quality of life by sorting out long-standing problems like leg ulcers and getting his cataract done, as much as being there for him as his health declined. The attentiveness and kindness he received were a revelation to us, just as much as it was to my dad.

My father was a resident for almost two years until his death in November 2022. He received a high standard of care whilst he was there. I felt extremely confident that my dad was being well cared for. There were a range of activities for the residents to enjoy and I know Dad enjoyed some of these,
especially visits to pubs and restaurants which were things he loved to do when he lived at home. The staff were very caring, especially as his family could not visit very often as they all live a distance away. This went a long way to give me peace of mind.

Highfield Private Care Home is situated in very pleasant surroundings in a quiet part of Saffron Walden. My sister has been in the home for almost three years. On entering the home you could think you were in a hotel. Everywhere is very clean and tidy. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and caring.
My sister is kept clean and tidy at all times and always looks nice in her clothes. There are various activities taking place such as bands playing, yoga sessions and outings. A beauty therapist visits the home on a regular basis and is available to residents who wish to take advantage of her services. A chiropodist also visits the home on a regular basis. My sister particularly enjoys the meals; the menu is varied and residents are asked to make suggestions. There are excellent nurses onsite 24 hours each day. The manager and his office staff are available to offer help and support whenever needed. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff!

Hello, my name is Aaron and I am the Home Manager at Highfield. I understand the anxiety you might be feeling as you look for a care home for a loved one. It is a massive change for everyone involved and takes a great deal of adjustment. We are here to support you through all of this.
Coming to live in a care home often leaves people feeling that they are giving something up. It does not have to be like this. We provide companionship and guidance to help residents continue to do the things they enjoy. As Home Manager I want to make the transition as easy as possible for everyone .
Highfield is their home. Residents can choose to mix with others as much, or as little, as they wish. Life goes on as normal with visits to church, supermarkets, and the local pub garden.
Contact with family and friends is essential for well being and we encourage you to get involved in our community. You are always welcome to join us for lunch and we have regular social evenings. We do not have fixed visiting times so you can visit whenever you wish.
I am a Registered Nurse, specialising in mental health. We know that physical and mental health are connected and you cannot have one without the other. We help with the practical aspects of daily living, but also help our residents maintain self-esteem, self-worth, engaged minds and active bodies.
Finally, there is lots of laughter at Highfield. You will hear lots of laughing and joking whenever you visit us. Whatever is happening in the world, a good belly laugh always makes things feel a little lighter and easier to cope with.
