My mother has been a resident for approx one year, in that time I have found the Lodge staff to be unwavering in their aims to make this a "home" for her.
The nursing care is second to none and the emotional care constant, recently we were asked if anything else could make things better for mum, even
though this involved providing a room with a wet room as mum is in a wheelchair this was organised quickly and efficiently taking on all emotional health and well-being. I can't praise them enough.

My Dad recently passed away whilst in South Africa Lodge. Although Dad was only in the Lodge for a month or so, I can only describe the conditions, facilities, care and attention provided to Dad, and support for us as a family, as being above and beyond anything that we expected.

From the outset

we were told to treat the premises as our home, whilst we were there, in terms of making tea etc.

On the final day we were provided with food for all family members present and my mother was provided with a bedroom for the final night.

South Africa Lodge was the only Nursing Home that was offering to take Dad with the level of care he required but I am so glad he spent his last days in such a wonderful environment. We will never forget how in the last 36 hours, when death was imminent, the staff still religiously changed Dad and his bedding every few hours. Its amazing how such memories stick at sad times.

It would be unfair to single out any individual member of staff as all provided the highest possible standards of attention, care, support and friendliness.

We cannot praise South Africa Lodge enough and are reassured knowing that Dads last days were spent in such a wonderful environment

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.614)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.614) out of 10 for South Africa Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.614 for South Africa Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (117 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 440 Ratings = 4.614
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for South Africa Lodge is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 99 registered maximum number of service users is 19.8, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
